I wouldn't say they are really poor. Have come out the wrong side of a few tight games. Having 3 CBs gives more flexibility for the wingbacks to attack. It's not not as simple as saying by playing 3CBs we are or should be less attacking

I do wonder about this stuff in relation to Brereton being a Balaji pet project. Duffy had a disaster the last 12 months before this season. He looked like he could end up dropping out of top level football, but he apparently got really fit before pre-season and has come back fighting. I wonder is it injuries that have stopped Ayala playing PL. He certainly looks good enough to me.
