An Evening with Tony Mowbray

An Evening with Tony Mowbray

But he said he did according to people who were there. He's said it about others players too. He even said he signed players for our League 1 campaign if they fitted two criteria:- 1) He managed them before 2) He played well against his teams. Those were his words. That lazy Sunday League (classic Small Faces) recruitment policy had obviously continued. -

Fair points. I look forward to us blowing away teams with our superior pass and move game next season (Naaarwich) or our ability to keep clean sheets and nick games 1-0 (Brizzle) Nah, me neither....? -

The majority of supporters on here are behind him so you are right on that. I just like to think 'my view' is based on what is actually happening rather than vague notions of what might happen. In my view, and in the view of the majority of people I know (and in the poll on here), he gets the summer and early next season to massively up his game. The good will of the promotion season cant go on forever. I don't think he's overachieving this season and I very much doubt the owners think finishing 15th-20th in the league is any great achievement. He had good Championship players when he walked into the club and he's been allowed a good budget since, certainly more than a lot of clubs around us. There is also nothing fortunate about faith being shown in him by appalling owners. I'm just dealing in tangibles. ? -

That's because they have good managers. -

We've just spent £7m on a 19 year old who we only watched once at most. He isn't even good enough to get in the team. Think about that before you judge him on the size of his budget. Mowbray also said he didn't spend all the available budget because he didn't want to. Most of the clubs around us would love to have that luxury. We were 4th or 5th in the league on net spend in the summer. Mowbray failed to strengthen when he should have, and when he had the money too. He said it was because he 'liked the group' and he wanted to stay loyal. Nonsense. He works for BRFC, his job is to do the best for the club not for his pals in the squad. There are no guarantees he will get the chance to spend in the summer if Venky's do a predictable volte-face. Mowbray's complacency is staggering. He's being paid a lot of money to run a professional football club and he's acting like he's running a Sunday League team. The defence is fine > The defence is shit We've no foreign scouts > We're targeting foreign players in the summer Every time he opens his mouth there is a contradiction. I've no doubt he's a lovely man and is conscientious, but that isn't a reason to pay him a lot of money. I've seen little in the way of progression in the way we play in the two years he's been here. We still have the same failings, and if anything the defence is getting worse and the attack no better. I think his recruitment is lazy and amateurish. -

Thanks for allowing me an opinion. You finally became an adult. My lack of support is what I see on the pitch and the justifications he comes out with - like at last nights event. I don't rate him and I can back up why. As far as I can see you're using the owner's support to back your arguments, which is is never going to be a strong position to take considering they employed Coyle and Kean. -

Jesus wept. He shouldn't be let anywhere near a cheque book. He's starting to make Coyle look competent. -

Eh? He's admitted it. There is no context. The 'financial parameters' are also irrelevant - Mowbray chose the player.. It's not the first time the 'He had a good game against one of my teams once so we signed him' line has been trotted out either. He even admitted that was one of his criteria when signing players for the L1 campaign. The weight of evidence is not on your side not matter how you try to spin it. -
https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17451081.rovers-boss-looking-for-millwall-repeat-at-birmingham/ "Birmingham is another game we know we will be playing against a very organised, hardworking, physical side, and if we’re not defensive structured enough to deal with the directness, then we’ll probably get beat,” Mowbray said (shrugging his shoulders, putting his feet up and cracking open another packet of biscuits).

It's heartening that all the things that Mowbray has criticised himself for are all the things the more discerning poster on here has been criticising him for. We won't name names (I'm just too classy) but the non-thinking types that defend everything Mowbray does and says will need to reflect long and hard this morning on the hurt and upset they have caused to quality posters by doing awful things like attaching 'laughing emojis' to quality posts. It must be very sobering experience for them. They are in my thoughts. -

Mowbray's contradictions are becoming legend. He says one thing then says the complete opposite a few weeks later. Oooh, but what an honest man? -

Seems your theory about BB not being a Mowbray signing but a project from Balaji has proven to be incorrect. What's worse is that Mowbray saw him have one good game and spent £7m on him. -

A guy reeling off stuff he's got wrong and admitting he spent millions on a bloke who once played well against his team is not someone I'd class as being one of the best managers we've had. It's a shame posters like you are so easily taken in by a nice bloke who talks a lot. -

As suspected BB was a panic buy as TM couldn't get players he wanted.... so spunked a big chunk of money on a player who did well against his team 2 years earlier. Unbelievable. Its good that even he has admitted BB is shit. Utter joke of a signing. Then he expects Venkys to trust him with £10m.? -

If you have the jacket that used to belong to our old fitness coach Runyer Boloksov then Chaddy will be interested. He was a big fan. -
Next season may finally be the year I give up the ST and choose my games, for the reasons you've mentioned (and others) I was committed, are the club?

Was that when Matt Dickens was in the nets?

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17450339.mowbrays-message-to-rovers-players-after-run-of-defeats/ Its OK, we were good against Brentford until the 3rd went in, we matched Bristol City, and Reading were just two isolated defensive howlers. Nothing to see here. The defence is just too cultured to do stuff like defending. ?

I'm sure if ST's were on sale last season during a promotion push we would have sold more. Once the season finishes the momentum is lost.
