  1. I can't see where he fits in except right back. CM we have half a dozen players, same at wide forward. Everything points to Mowbray earmarking him and Nyambe to persist in the RB role till JRC comes through.
  2. Always love Fulham away. I can see why they were so keen to move back to Cravan Cottage. Such a lovely location for a stadium, by the river and the park. Fulham itself is very nice. First game of season for me. Bennett dropped for Nyambe or Tosin seems nailed on (you would fervently hope). Mulgrew however looks like he will keep his place as there's no one fit to displace him. If we did sign Hanley he would be a gonner. If not could Grayson get a shot at some point? I don't think Tosin will play left side of central defence Tin hat on - I don't actually think Bell is as bad as everyone makes out. Id rather have him in the side than Bennett or Mulgrew. Alongside a decent CB (ie. Not Mulgrew) I think he would be okay.
  3. If wed spent 5m on defenders and persevered with Graham, Brereton and Armstrong up top we would be in a much better position.
  4. Ooh, this has a nasty ring of plausibility about it. Unfortunately I could see this happening.
  5. Depends if the new Tosin and left back are any good. I do agree we may drop Bennett and Mulgrew next game. Nyambe in definitely as Bennett had an absolute shocker. Maybe Mulgrew, but he probably has more chance of surviving. Bell will retain his place as there's no one to take it.
  6. Fair play, went back and watched Brazil 1970. Very very good. Much higher standard than the 68 european cup final going on the clips. However I would still say the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic etc are operating at a higher level, but it's not possible to definitively prove. Anyway I'll stop pi**ing on people's chips and shut up!
  7. It's totally academic but I would say swapping Dack for an quality centreback would improve our chances of promotion. I think between Buckley and Rothwell we could compensate for Dacks loss somewhat and a solid centreback would make an absolutely huge impact. That said it would be far preferable to both keep Dack and find a very good centreback. Surely we can do that? Are they that hard to find?
  8. Maybe I suppose, but it's speculative. The fact is the general technical quality of the game today is vastly higher. I'm not saying it more exciting or worthwhile or anything, just that the skill is much improved. Ronaldo and Messi are absolutely extraordinary against other elite athletes from round the world funnelled through the best sports science etc etc. Its a totally different level I'd say.
  9. Tin hat on, but watching back these videos it's pretty obvious to me even modest Champions League players today are considerable technically better than the top players 50 years ago. Indeed, much as it pains me to say it, there has been a huge general improvement in the technical quality of football in the 20 years since Rovers won the league. It's seems pretty daft to me to suggest Best was a better player than Ronaldo, but there you go. Just my opinion.
  10. To be fair Mowbray probably brought Buckley on for Travis because he thought he may bring a creative pass to unlock the Charlton defence from a deeper position. Didn't work but I can see the thinking behind it.
  11. Rev's always been a funny one with rating players. I never really get where he's coming from.
  12. I guess we might see Bell off, Downing to left back and Rothwell on second half.
  13. Think Nyambe will migrate to centreback over time, needs to get stronger in the air though.
  14. I think it's absolutely shameful that Downing starts ahead of Rothwell. Rothwell was our best player for the last couple of months. Given the players available I can understand Mulgrew playing much as I am disappointed by it. Travis and Johnson are the right como, Gallagher, Armstrong and Dack will provide plenty of attacking threat. I think Bennett and Bell are probably our best full back pairing, though that is not saying much. 100% behind the ladies! Come on
  15. Id pick him for now till the end of time if the alternative was Mulgrew
  16. Really, I thought that back four being the best combo is not suprising except Bennett at right back where I think Nyambe do as good a job. The basic point is we absolutely have to have Lenihan in the side as he is our best defender by miles. After that anyone is much of a muchness except Mugrew who is a grade A liability and should be avoided. The stats say Nyambe had as bad a time also, but I didnt actually see him play that poorly. More caught out by others around him. But that's my opinion. Anyhow, given the lack of signings and injuries Charlie is extremely likely to play Saturday and I really hope to be proved wrong. Last season he genuinely had one of the worst seasons I've ever seen a Rover have. Hes a big lad short on pace so he need to show good positional sense, dominance in the air, good communication and (especially given he's our captain) leadership - all of which were seriously lacking last term.
  17. Think there's a decent chance Bennett could start ahead of Nyambe, but I put Nyambe in due to that tactics article in the LET as he's a better much better fit to come narrow like a third CB as it suggests. Maybe the articles cobblers, but reports from pre season go some way to confirm it I would be absolutely flabbergasted if Rothwell doesn't start. He had a great end to season where he was our best player for the last couple of months, a good pre-season and the suggestion is that we are building our team tactically around playing both him and Dack in same side (that LET article again). If Gallagher starts I think (hope?) Armstrong is more at risk. It's a pretty good attacking team with good options on the bench and should score a fair few goals. Big question marks though on Walton, Mulgrew, Downing as a LB. Seems very makeshift, and in Mulgrew we have someone who just had an utterly abject season.
  18. Pretty sure it will be this side and subs bench : --------------------------Walton Nyambe----Lenihan-----Mulgrew----Downing -----------------Travis---------Johnson ----Armstrong-------Dack--------Rothwell --------------------------Graham Subs : Leut, Tosin, Bennett, Evans, Buckley, Gallagher, Brereton
  19. Tosin coming in is good. One more decent centre half and I think I will say this has been an okay window in terms of bringing in players in the right positions. That said the reason I will be optimistic for the season is far more due to the continued development of young players already at the club, I don't think we've really signed anyone this window to get excited about.
  20. Got to find buyers though. Can't see anyone showing much interest in our players Nuttall aside. Plus we really don't need more centre mids, let's focus our time and energy on defenders.
  21. Thought you were mad but you predicted the article spot on.
  22. I think Bennett will lose his place to a proper defender. Either Nyambe or a signing. What worries me more is Mulgrew as a key starter alongside a converted midfielder at LB in Downing. That seems an absolute recipe for disaster.
