  1. If you'd invested £150 million plus into something and the supporters generally thought of you as some of ours still do (clearly), what would your opinion be of them, if you thought (rightly or wrongly) you had done little wrong? Tony, I'm gobsmacked at you!
  2. I whole heartedly agree but perhaps Waggott has been working his arse off and just doesn't get us as Blackburnians and Rovers fans, what makes us all tick and what pisses us off too. It doesn't necessarily make him a bad person, just not good enough to hold down his current position long term. Perhaps the Rao's see us all as the scum of the earth and who could blame them really, even though there were extreme mitigating circumstances. `Perhaps the Raos were suitably well embarrassed by a 7-0 mauling at the hands of Man Utd with all their friends and dignitaries assembled to watch their club play the best team in the world on a supposed equal footing. etc, etc, etc. None of the past 10 years can be changed, none of it but we can influence the next 1, 2, 5, 10 years and beyond. Let's dream of 20,000 plus on Ewood every other week, enjoying the whole match day experience on and off the field. Let's dream of following THE Rovers in our thousands once again but at White Hart Lane, Old Trafford and St James Park and not The New York Stadium, Oakwell and Kenilworth Road. Let's sing "No nay never..." and it be because of them that we'll never play Bastard Burnley again, not us. (The bloody irony, it made me cringe every time I heard it sung) Let's dream, hope, pray and all play our part, you just never know...... WE ARE The Rovers!!! COYB!!!
  3. I agree with every word that you have said Matty, except the one's of a negative connotation regarding the present and definitely the future. As whatever the past may hold, it cannot be altered but mistakes made, some of them of monumental proportions, we all know that, can only be learned from if we are to progress and move forward as a football club. I'm really hopeful (perhaps misguided, I grant you that but I hope not) that we have bottomed out and are on the way back. We have a decent enough platform on which to build, some exciting, young players in our squad and despite TM probably not being of sufficient calibre to kick us on to the next level, lateral thinking tells me that we ought to be grateful to him for his achievements thus far. Wouldn't it be great if we could possibly celebrate our 150 year anniversary in 2025, being an established Premier League Club and that shower of shite down the M65, wallowing in the 3rd Division once again along with their US Mormon owners. WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  4. Keep this run of form going in February and the top 2 will be in sight! COYB!!!!
  5. You're right of course but, We're 11 points behind Swansea and 15 behind Norwich: They should be our targets IMO. "Reach for the stars and you may just reach the moon" being the applied principle. Unlikely but you just never know. After all, who would have ever thought we would have lost six on the bounce in the '92 run in?
  6. I think it's about time we all cut the owners some slack. (I didn't say forget before anyone starts down that route) Our revenue as a club has been 2/3 of bugger all for 18 months, yet we've not had to sell anyone. In fact quite the contrary, we've added to our squad. Where does everybody think the money has come from to do that and provide the club with adequate working capital to sustain itself at this level? Next will come, yeh but we're now a £trillion in debt. Forget that it's meaningless, it's an accounting function only and nothing at all to worry about. If Venky's did sell for a profit at some point in the future, the debt would be offset against the potential capital gain, negating the need to pay capital gains tax. That is a fact! So yeh, they've been duped as have we all, by the shysters whose names we won't mention but they haven't cut and run, like many would, have they? Conversely they continue to pour money into our beloved Rovers. So, you can't influence the past, no matter how much you bitch and moan but you can influence the present and the future. Think about it.... WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  7. I always used to love standing on covered terraces at away games in the seventies and early eighties, when we took thousands. Ala Turf Moor and Bloomfield Road (The Kop used to be covered then and split in half for segregation, same as The Longside) Our version of The Beetles 'Hey Jude' used to deafeningly reverberate and echo, underneath the stand roof for ages. It couldn't have failed to motivate the team. Altogether now: Na, Na, Na, Nanana Nah, Nananana Nah, ROVERS.......
  8. Give us a goooal, give us a goooal, Barrie Hole, Barrie Hole!!!
  9. I'm having such a good week personally and am a great believer in gut feel, I think we are going to hammer Luton on Saturday! As has been said previously, they've been a bit of a tough nut to crack for us in recent years. However, I think Branthwaite's addition at the back is a master stroke, partnered with Darragh, they are a decent pairing. With a defensive mid sat in front of them, whoever it may be, Rhino and Douglas as additional attacking options and Kaminski playing as sweeper/keeper, added to our attacking armoury, I think we will be too strong for most teams from now to seasons end. 5-0 Rovers! "The Blues are going up, The Blues are going up, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna believe us, and now you're gonna beelieve uuus, The Blues are going UP!!!" COYB!!! WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  10. 'twas a community town, with a community spirit, with a football club, whatever the status, as a focal point. Wouldn't it be great if we could just recreate something similar in the modern age? 😉 With the caveat that Darreners would still be 'top dogs', just like it ever was!....
  11. Anyway: Peepers on Friday nights, Vulcan and Grapes thrown in for good measure anyone?
  12. Oh bugger, who do you think you are rigger, Oldjamfan? 🤣 Why are you always fecking right?! in mitigation, similar era, deep gravely voice etc.....
  13. "I was born in The Blackburn End, I was born in The Blackburn End, Knives are made for stabbin', guns are meant to shoot, If you come in the Blackburn End, We'll all stick in the Boot! Dean Martin, eat yer bloody heart out! Only exception I recall, were the Chelsea skinheads climbing out of The Blackburn End bit of The Nuttall Street stand and through The Enclosure, and the black leather, trench coated, Bolton Gestapo Mob, who all paid on to the Blackburn End in twos! They can't take away our memories! What did I just eat for tea?
  14. Anyone remember The Stiffs? ..4 Blackburn lads who flirted with the charts on a couple of occasions in the late 70s/early eighties. I'm still in occasional contact with one of them, Phil Hendriks. One of his current jobs is as guitarist in, of all things and in total contrast, The Bay City Rollers!!
  15. What a fantastic thread this is: makes you want to puff your chest out with pride once again, being a Rover! I'm currently up to the early sixties, with my little missive on the darrenrover family history. Please forgive me because I'm gonna make an enormous leap to September 2018 and a tale of a tee-shirt and a pair of crocs! Mrs darrenrover and I were in USA in September 2018 for a month, half holiday and half business: We had 5 days in fabulous Key West, Florida and were having lunch at Caroline's Burger Bar on Duval St, when I spotted 'Big Yin' Billy Connolly and his wife Pamela sat a few tables away. We're not the star struck type and just left them to eat their lunch in peace. Midway through our meal, the heavens opened and we were all deluged with rain, running for the only cover, a canopy in front of the bar. As we wiped ourselves dry best we could, I got a tap on my shoulder, looked round and Billy asked me "City fans are yee? Can I buy yee all a drink?" Most indignantly I replied, "are we buggery, we're all Rovers, Blackburn Rovers, what makes you think we're City fans?" "Yer tee-shirt" he replied pointing at my Darwen Blues tee-shirt (photo below); no further explanation required for Big Yins misapprehension! We drank up and left, the storm now having passed. Walking along Duval Street together afterwards, we saw a Croc Shop with a sale on , went inside and the Connollys followed us in. I spotted a white pair at a third of normal price and carried on browsing. A few minutes later Pamela said " I hope you don't mind but I've just bought these for you, I think they'll look well on your new Crocs." she'd bought for me 4 letters and 2 red roses. As you can see from the photo of them below, she'd shown some real imagination and I was really thrilled as you can imagine! We left the shop, said our thanks, goodbyes and went on our own way. So why tell this tale now you may ask? 2 weeks later I endured a serious lumbar back problem, from which I have really suffered from since. The sciatic leg pain at times was unbearable. My legs, feet and toes were always extremely swollen and I couldn't contemplate wearing a pair of shoes (or crocs) Roll this forward to 16th January and I had cause to have an emergency4.5 hour surgery on my back. A week on: no pain, soreness or suffering anywhere, foot and ankle swelling gone and total mobility regained. Fantastic accolade to the surgeons in my view, the leg pain being unbearable previously, most of the time, now having completely gone. Last but by no means least, COYB! WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  16. You're right Rev but I'm sure you get my general point. What are defenders supposed to do? Let opposing forwards grapple and crawl all over them, lay down and half heartedly jump for headers, meanwhile nasty bastards like Nick Powell and Jay Rodriguez frighten our centre halves to death? Bollocks to that, we've got a young centre half (sadly on loan) who's prepared to give opposition senior pros, more than a run for their money, where it hurts. That rubbed off on the rest of the team today IMO because they showed far more grit and determination than of late. Don't forget refs in this league are ridiculously lenient, as evidenced today in our favour, as it happens. If Branthwaite were to get an odd red card, so be it. He certainly wouldn't be "neither use nor ornament" as you say. Soft bastards win feck all. For the past 7 or 8 years, we've been absolute powder puff! Hopefully that's gonna change and we've now got some bite to add to our undoubted attacking armoury!
  17. Frankly, being an avid Rover, I don't give a shit whether it should have been red or not. I just thought good lad when I saw it! I hope the 'Boro lad is ok but he had been trying to impose himself on our young centre half prior to the incident, bet he regrets that now! All I saw was a reincarnate Glenn Keeley, in a young blond headed body, wearing the famous blue and white halves, with a nasty glint in his eye after the unfortunate incident. I thought about bloody time, you'll do for me Branthwaite! We saw the game out well and in the end, were unfortunate not to bag a couple more (if only Arma could learn to round the keeper when through one v one!) Average 2 points per game between now and seasons end and we're up there! Great Result, I'm well suited. If only we had a pitch at Ewood worthy of a slick, incisive passing game! COYB!!
  18. Nothing more to add, these pics tell their own tale for the majority of us. My name is proudly listed in the back of the book Tony as a subscriber, I was 14 at the time!
  19. Edited ever so slightly for you Dan. WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  20. Only excuses regarding the defence, no focus as to the reasons why we haven't had a decent centre half since Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy left. Who's watch has that been on? And another thing, the reference to being 'entitled', just fuck off Mowbray. The majority of remaining Rovers fans all remember traipsing round such salubrious stadia such as The Shay, Field Mill, Millmoor, Vale Park, Gigg Lane, Spotland etc in the late 60s and early 70s, don't talk to me of being 'spoiled'!
  21. ...and never at fault for anything, it's always someone or something else that is to blame. May 2019: "Tony, KPMG say you can either have a Danny Graham or a £1.5 million new pitch, the best in the country but you can't have both. What'll it be?".......... ....January 2021? TAXI
