  1. I think there should be a series of two or three tracks to be played up to a triumphant entrance song. The same group of songs in the same order every week, fans would get used to the songs and the order. The third track which would therefore be played ten minutes before kickoff should be...... and I will be slaughtered for this; 'Avenues and Alleyways' the theme tune from the 1970's TV show the protectors. The fans could say 'Oh No its this rubbish on again, must be ten minutes to kick off better drink up and get to my seat.' I think the song is that bad it's good, lines like, 'Where the strong and the quick alone can survive' Ah they don't write songs like that anymore.
  2. Cheers Kiwi, I know who you mean. There is also someone with the charity who tries to authenticate the autographs. So I am getting somewhere.
  3. I have been asked by a charity to try to find out the value of a Rovers Programme which has been donated. I am not in the position to sell it at present but would appreciate some guidance regarding its value. The programme is Rovers V Spurs November 1994 and it has several signatures. Batty Le Saux Shearer Sutton Newell Wilcox Slater Gale Hendry The article itself is in good condition and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity but I have no idea how to authenticate the autographs. The only collecting experience I have is of Rovers matches which I have attended. So I have some idea of ordinary values but this is something else. Anyone any Ideas?
  4. I must admit that I don't support any other club team than Rovers and the reserves etc. I am an England supporter during meaningful games but I just can't be bothered with the friendlies. I do look out for the results of a couple of teams but the results are irrelevant. They are; Morecambe because I used to live around the corner from Christie park and if Rovers didn't have a game I would go and watch Morecambe instead. Leeds Utd as my missus supports them. Allianza de Lima as I know some people in Peru. Generally I find myself listening to the radio hoping that any near rivals in the league lose. This season obviously anyone playing against Southampton, WBA, Norwich and Palace also to a lesser extent Birmingham. And of course most teams playing against scumley.
  5. Not a Derby day memory. But does anyone remember the Rovers fan who always wore a Scumley hat in the Blackburn End. Thats right a Dingles hat but with a strategically placed plastic Turd on the top. Priceless.
  6. I don't care if we never play Burnley again. I'd like to see Rovers get Oldham at Ewood.
  7. I went to see Hayseed Dixie yesterday in Manchester. They are far better 'Live' than on CD. Rock music in a Bluegrass style, great musicians, great atmosphere, great entertainment. Well worth the entrance fee.
  8. Go on then spill the beans, what number is he wearing? SAV 31 Is there any logic in Sav selecting No. 31? Why not 3 or 30.... or even 32
  9. Regardless of all the voting methods and argument of who is the best I think that we are compiling a pretty good Rovers hall of Fame. Looking at the list players I have seen, added to many players that I have only read about I feel that the standard is exceptional. Given the size of the town club etc I think as Rovers fans we have been fortunate to attract players of this calibre.
  10. Wendy Howard on Radio Lancs has just reported that the MGP deal is OFF!
  11. Good Grief Mr Birch!! You only live in Sydney! Get the Bus at Woolloomooloo, It will take you right past Darlinghurst, past Surry Hills and Ewood Park is on the LEFT!! oh sorry Moore Park my mistake.
  12. I know how you feel PR. I'm sure you will agree that there is some need of secrecy with the signing of players. This guy may turn out to be a great asset but also we may never hear of him again, never mind even get to sign him. We can also be guilty of blowing this news out of proportion. The story warrants around 50 words in the SP. It is over shaddowed by two Rovers stories. 1) Dwight Mare. 2) Flitcroft to Leeds. I am sure that Andy Neild of the LET will have been aware of the players ID all week. He will probably have been asked to keep the story quiet for a few days but more practically he has to produce a piece of copy every single day. This week with the team going to Germany, Cole leaving, then the first game, Andy has had loads of more important articles to produce. This 'Exclusive' will probably be in the LET on Monday when there are no other stories to write about.
  13. Thanks. I have read the posts and was just trying to add to the overall debate as Rovers are supposed to be still interested in this player. Coles response this week was to dip out of the club tour to speak to Fulham. Hamdaoui's response to outside interest is totally different. He has responded by scoring a bucket load of goals and being part of his team. A totally different character I believe.
  14. I don't think that the Mystery Man is Mounir El Hamdaoui from Excelsior. I have just had a look at Excelsiors official site. www.sc-excelsior.nl/ (Sorry don't know how to do links) The news for Friday 16/07/04, is presenting their official photo call where the team is photographed together. Mounir is second from the left on the back row. So unless he made a rapid exit or Excelsiors site is wrong, then this cannot be our Mystery Man playing against SG Schorndorf.
  15. I wonder why It didn't occur to the LET or local press to actually take a photograph of this player? I know that a trialist is often a surprise part of a pre-season game and so who could have made a point of getting this guys picture......... But generally photographers take photographs of the goal scorers so someone must know what he looks like. Or is this too technical!?
  16. Don't Rovers have a sixteen year old on trial from Notts County? (McGoldrick) He could have been draughted in after Cole was pulled out of the squad at the last minute.
  17. Does anyone have the stats as to how many season tickets Rovers have sold per year over the last 10 to 15 years or so? I seem to remember that we have had approx 20k (at best). Maybe 15,000 is what Rovers should expect due to the fact we finished near the bottm of the league. Also the current economic climate etc. Also we could read too much into the lack of news regarding season ticket numbers. The 'Window' to renew was very short so all the renewals arriving at Ewood in a short space of time would probably create a backlog. This would IMO take some time to work through. Afterall this is still June.
  18. You could, but you'd be wrong. Why? because we only get 23/24000 gates? JW's money sees to the difference between us and other better supported sides. Apart from that, why are we a small club? We're a small club, from a small town, surrounded by dozens of other small clubs, and a few massive ones. If it wasnt for 10 years of huge investment, we'd be down with Burnley and Preston. If we were lucky. Before this debate gets silly I think it's important to point out that before Uncle Jacks money, Rovers were at least one if not two divisions above Burnley, Preston, Bolton, Blackpool etc.
  19. Which dictionary did you consult? GULLIBLE is derived from the noun GULL. My dictionary, albeit from 1982 (Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary), defines GULLIBLE as "easily deceived (also gullable)" Sorry PB an old joke. Admittedly Not a very good one.
  20. Anyhow there is no such word as GULLIBLE!! If you don't believe me look it up in the dictionary.
  21. WTF???? This Paul Agniew seems a bit of a daft prick Where might I find gullable in the dictionary? I think the smilie face shows that although I cannot read noweigion, i can see when someone is telling porkies. Krislu. Not a very bright quote from Paul Agnew. Especially as he is supposed to run a public relations company. Is he still the Editor of RoverTime magazine? "The Official Matchday Magazine of Blackburn Rovers Football Club." I wonder if he was speaking as a PR guru, as Rovers Editor or with both feet in his mouth.
  22. You are right. Radio Five tonight reported that a nine point deduction for Premiership teams going into receivership/administration would come into effect next season. NOT affecting Leeds IF they go into admin this year as no rule yet applies.
  23. If anyone is interested in buying second hand music, there is a decent shop in Lancaster. Oxfam receive donations of clothes, books, records etc and distribute them around their shops. However there is one bloke who is very clued up on the music business and he sifts through the music donations which are then put up for sale in Oxfam bookshop in Lancaster. They have a section which is pretty comprehensive. They sell vinyl, albums, singles, CD's, tapes, a few programmes etc but they Don't stock the crap that appears in most second hand shops. They also re-stock every 6 weeks ish. Not big but decent quality especially collectibles.
  24. This has nothing to do with the thread But; Jim Mk2 did you appear on Radio five recently discussing a Goal by Mart Poom? Or was that another Jim??
  25. I think Souness should stay. The only way I can see Souness going is if he decides that he has taken this club as far has he can. Currently the situation is unacceptable for everyone - Souness, Fans, Players. Rovers need stability, the injured & suspended to be available all the time and to develop consistency, if we fire the manager and the change doesn't come off then we've had it! We would be in no different a situation as we are now but owing probably a big redundancy fee. So I look at it this way we have had three good years with Souness, after a couple of dreadful years in the wilderness managed by the two next big things in English football (Hodgson & Kidd) and they could have ruined us. Hodgson built a team and spent cash, Kidd replaced him didn't like the squad and spent more cash buying more players. Now we have had less than three poor months and a lot of us are looking at a knee jerk reaction. Surely it is too early to change the manager especially as we are only a couple of wins off mid-table. Also Souness has probably spent the last of our transfer money on purchasing a new group of players to build his own team. This new team has only had 11 league games together. A new manager would probably have a totally different view of the personnel but wouldn't have any money to spend on new players. Remember we couldn't afford to bring in Julian Gray. Finally Rovers can't buy anyone until the transfer window opens anyway (If we have any cash left). So we still have time to see how the season develops, whether we start to pick up points or begin to lose touch with the other teams. Therefore - Too soon to get rid of a man who has given us some of The Rovers best times.
