  1. Does anyone know the only player to score against us three times this season? One of the most impressive opposition players I've seen down at Ewood, I think he could be worth a shout has he's been out on loan this season and I highly doubt he's going to be involved with his current club for the upcoming season.
  2. Presuming the referee would have blown his whistle frantically for half-time again if the penalty had hit the post or something. Yeah I'm not a fan of VAR either, like has been mentioned here before decisions in the game are subjective and I've seen plenty of decisions reversed by VAR that I'm not sure should have been.
  3. It certainly adds some good comedy value. How is it fair that this VAR is only being trialled in certain ties? Imagine your team gets knocked out of the FA Cup to a shocking decision that would have got overturned had your team's game been part of this VAR experiment. I feel like the technology will end up favouring this bigger sides because there's always going to be more controversial decisions involving those team because they spend more of the game attacking and borderline penalties like the one Liverpool got will always be reviewed and the referee will be pressurised into giving it.
  4. Notice Scott Wharton has been given a squad number, may feature against Newport on Monday?
  5. Bit strange both Tomlinson and Mahoney were given squad numbers at the beginning season and yet even with the squad down to the bare bones Bowyer has choosen to name a bench full of defenders/defensive midfielders rather than include one of these two. That seems to me to indicate that they are unlikely to feature this season, if so maybe they would be best loaned out to gain some team experience. Always nice to beat the Dingles, especially liked the Mahoney goal, lovely strike!
  6. I think both teams would happily take a draw tonight, that's not to say it will end that way but I'm sure it will be in the players minds to some degree.
  7. Sounds like he'll fit in well. I can see where the Mokoena comparison have come in, but from what I recall of him he is a much better and more dynamic player than The Axe.
  8. I don't know the full ins and outs of how we came to appoint Jensen as assistant manager in the first place but from the outside at least it looks like it wasn't Kean's choice in the first place. You should always let your manager choose the backroom staff where possible in my opinion. To be honest there never seemed to be sort of any connection between Kean and Jensen in the dugout, Jensen usually just took a background role and you'd barely notice he was our assistant manager at times. The likelihood of the events regarding is departure is probably either that he'd had enough of working with Kean because he didn't like him, didn't want to ruin his reputation or Kean has told someone he wants to appoint "his own" assistant manager.
  9. He's certaintly got the best of Junior Holiet from his time in charge, let's hope he can do the same with Rochina.
  10. It's okay saying that in hindsight but our goal threat in open play has been significantley reduced since McCarthy left. Yes it probably was the right move but it was still a bit of a risk in my opinion. It's mainly due to our improving defense we've racked up so many points this season, we definintley need a striker or two this summer to replace the gap left by McCarthy. I remember home games this season against Fulham and Portmsouth (second half) were he was brilliant and our best player by a distance. He also played a key role in keeping us up the previous season. He does seem to keep picking up injuries in recent times and that's why he hasn't really had the chance to shine at West Ham.
  11. Last year's winner Mon Mome was french bred and was the main reason behind the big price as everyone ruled it out because of the trend of no french bred winners since 1909. Lottery of a race I've gone with Niche Market and Irish Raptor E/W. Best of luck everyone.
  12. You can criticise McCarthy all you want but in my opinion he's been a very good player for us and one of the best players in term of techincial skill to ever grace the Rovers shirt . In his first season he was particularly brilliant since then he's been a bit hit and miss, but for the large part he's been a key player in our team. Even when he wasn't playing at his optimium level he still came up with the goods in terms of goals. We probably wouldn't even be in the Premiership if it wasn't for all thoose vital goals he scored towards the end of last season. Seemingly the new regime under Big Sam particualry since the beginning of this season has seen Benni not get as much time on the pitch as he would like in the build up to the World Cup in his own country. Obviously some sort of issue between McCarthy and Big Sam. Not really difficult to see how it might have arose. McCarthy is a flair and specialist player who can only be used effectively if he's got a strike partner and with the ball played along the floor. Whereas Big Sam is more a 4-5-1 man with a direct style of play and prefers players who "put in a shift". In many ways Benni was always a round peg in square hole under our current tactics and style of play under Big Sam. I don't blame either Big Sam or Benni, sometimes in football there's just a clash of personalties and the only option is for the player in question to leave. Fergie/Becks, Souey/Dunn are just two example i'm sure there's many more you can think of. Yes Benni had his flaws, but don't all players? I'd prefer to reflect on the good and all the joy he brought us during his time at the club. Quite fitting his last game at Ewood for us was the Fulham game, in which he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile and demonstrated some of his sublime ball skills. That begs the question is it a mistake to sell him? in terms of player quality I'd say yes because we'll do well to find a player of a similiar quality for the price and it puts a lot of pressure of Kalinic now if our replacement for McCarthy doesn't fire. In terms of team morale and dressing room harmony? probably yes. But overall I'd like wish Benni good luck at the Hammers and thank him for all the good memories.
  13. Scorers in all competitions Dunn - 5 McCarthy, Pedersen - 2 Nzonzi, Salgado, Di Santo, Givet, Roberts, Reid, Kalinic, Diouf, Samba, Chimbonda, Holiett - 1 A bit worrying that our strikers have only scored 5 between them and 2 of thoose are from Benni's who's not played regularly.
  14. It seems to me that Benni is suffering from the formation we currently play. He was only on for the last five minutes or so yesterday and managed our only meaningful effort on goal. He had superb second half albeit against a ten man Peterborough side that warranted more than just a brief five minutes cameo at the end. Hopefully he'll be involved against Portsmouth.
  15. I'd have to disagree and say their second album is their best. But the new one is still very impressive, definately a slight changed sound for their previous albums but I like it a lot. Been listening to Jamie T - Kings & Queens a lot recentley, and I've got to say it's the best album I've heard in ages. Be difficult to define it in one specific genre since it's very diverse in it's sound. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but well worth a listen in my opinion.
  16. In his time at City Barton was a very good Premiership attacking central midfield just the sort of player we lack. He'll obviously has is bad reputation a few gremlins to carry around with him but we've had Savage, Neill, Bellamy and currently have Diouf at the club all of who've whom aren't exactly considered angels.
  17. The game is at Ewood so I'm sure even the speed Benni travels at he will be able to make it in time across from the club shop. Don't see what our only fit striker is doing playing in the reserves to be honest, hopefully just trying to sharpen up a bit for the weekend's game.
  18. Denman again for me in the Gold Cup tommorrow despite his poor reappearance, he likes it round Cheltenham and if he runs to his potential he's a class above all the other runners. Good value at around 6/1 as well, E/W bet for me.
  19. Torphichen tailed off finished 9th. Kalahari King ran on well went a close second. Nenuphar Collonges staye don well and finished 3rd. Celestial Halo an even closer second was leading going over the last but just got beat. L'Ami beaten pretty well in the end but another 2nd place none the less. Chomba Womba probably my main let down, weakened towards the finish ended up 7th. Got about double my stake back in return so can't really grumble. If only thoose 2nd places had been first's. Try again tommorrow.
  20. Here are my selections for my Lucky63 E/W bet for what it's worth: 1:30 SUPREME NOVICES' HURDLE - Torphichen 5/1 2:05 ARKLE CHASE - Kalahari King 11/1 2:40 WILLIAM HILL HANDICAP CHASE - Nenuphar Collonges 16/1 3:20 CHAMPION HURDLE - Celestial Halo 8/1 4:00 CROSS COUNTRY CHASE - L'Ami 2/1 4:40 DAVID NICHOLSON MARES' HURDLE - Chomba Womba 7/1
  21. Cheltenham Festival next week. Anybody got any good tips?
  22. White Lies - To Lose My Life... The Airborne Toxic Event - The Airborne Toxic Event Two amazing albums from this year already.
  23. I remember this game and thread well, back then we pretty much all hated Big Sam. He doesn't half sprout some rubbish in after match interviews sometimes. But the truth of the matter is the best managers defend their players at all cost, you rarely see Fergie or Wenger come out and critise their own players. They try to take the attention of their players and put it on themselves. If I remember correctly Big Sam pulled off Diouf within minutes of the dive. Which was another sign that he knew he'd done something wrong. Despite him never criticing Diouf pubically I'm sure he would have had a word with him in private.
