Rovers v Canaries. Sat 12th Dec 3pm
DE. replied to darrenrover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Being a Spaniard I didn't expect Ayala to be quite so clumsy on the ball, but I guess that's why he's spent his career at this level. Overall the talent of our defenders isn't necessarily the problem - more their collective injury-proneness which means we can never have a solid back four playing together for multiple games. -

Everyone thought he was mis-speaking, but maybe he was just a low-key comedy genius. Always got a laugh out of me, anyway. -

Above us in the table ✔️ Three points gets us into a playoff place ❌ 50% chance of winning. -
I'm feeling very downbeat after last night's result. I felt like the matches against Brentford and Bristol City were genuine chances to prove we've turned a corner - to show something really has changed from previous seasons. 1 point from those two games is just so disappointing. Having the best attacking stats in the league doesn't mean much to me if we're 10th and can't win against anybody in the top half. I'd much rather have the best defensive record in the league, and I'm sure we'd be a lot higher in the table if we did.

He's 26 next month so he's pretty much at his peak now. I don't think he'll be getting significantly better than he is now anyway. I think it feels like he's younger because of how TM has treated and spoken about him. -

We're always 'x' amount of points away from the playoffs. There's an old saying in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice — you can't get fooled again. -

He is far too slow to play in our system. There were a couple of times tonight when he ended up trying to whip a ball into the box far too early because he has zero pace to try and run past opposition players. To use an old phrase, it looks like he's running in quicksand. He would have fit in better in our old system, but I don't think we're going back to that. -

I think Williams himself has said he doesn't want to play at left back anymore. In theory Mowbray could order him to play there, but he won't. I don't think Williams is much if any better at LB than Douglas or Bell anyway. -

Williams looked rusty, which I suppose was to be expected, and Ayala is not the upgrade I thought he'd be. Seems pretty average, but still OK for a free transfer. Arma was shocking tonight but we just couldn't break through their defence. It was one of those games where we needed to win another way - via something like a set piece, but as we've only scored from two set pieces all season that is a huge weakness that hurts us when we come up against teams we can't pass through. -

Bristol opened us up a few times, so it wasn't a surprise to me when they scored. They had two golden opportunities in the first half. Less in the second, but with our defence you just knew we were going to gift them at least one chance to score. -

If you count Arma's chance when Elliott put him through then there's two, but that's it. Bristol had us sussed fairly early on and took their chance when it came, as all the better teams in the division do. This team is grossly overestimated because we play some nice football, in the same way fans underestimated some of our past teams because we played attritional football but got results. 10th is about right and more or less where we'll be come the end of the season, unless Dack and Trav return and have a major, major impact. -

Giving up on the playoffs or promotion at this point, not happening. Mentally this team simply isn't there. Frankly our defending was criminal all night and we could have been two or three down if Bristol City's players knew how to finish. I really don't care about lovely passes and fancy flicks and total football. I just want us to win matches and compete with the top teams in this division. It's never going to happen with the current manager. Not that Venky's will ever hire anybody better, as their track record is appalling in that department, but it's all so sad when you look at the team we have. Counting Bowyer's team at their peak, we've had two squads which I believe were and are capable of getting into the playoffs. Neither are going to, and it's all because our owners go cheap on the manager time after time. If they had truly learned their lesson then that is what would change, not splashing out £7m on youngsters or renewing contracts. -

Another chance to get into the top six missed, another team in the top half we can't beat. All too predictable and it's looking like another season in mid-table. -

For all our fancy football I'd love to have had a few of the chances Bristol have had tonight. Think we would have buried at least two of them. Instead been restricted mainly to Armstrong pot shots which haven't threatened in the slightest. -

We have a team of ten players and Armstrong. By this point I wouldn't want to pass the ball to him anymore. -

Sky commentators picking up on Armstrong's greediness now. If he scores it'll all be forgotten about, I guess, until the next game. -

Not a bad half. We've played some lovely stuff at times but lack a cutting edge. Other than Arma's chance when he was put in by Elliot I can't think of any proper clear cut chances we created. Bristol had the better chances and should probably have netted a couple, but fortunately their finishing is as bad as our defending has been at times tonight. Entertaining game but I thought we'd impose a little more on a decimated Bristol City side. Hopefully a more dominant second half. -

Need to try and get players into the box faster. That's three times now we've attacked the box and barely had anybody in support. -

Not got into our rhythm yet. Need to try and retain possession for a bit. -
We lost 9 out of 11 between February 2nd 2019 - 6th April 2019 which I would argue trumps that. The worst death spiral thus far which completely obliterated any hopes we had of getting into the top six, despite being within touching distance at the end of January on the back of a four game winning streak. We don't seem to be see-sawing in form quite so much this season which is a welcome relief.
