Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach

How are you classifying officially sacked? Bowyer and Coyle were both given the boot. -

Well that was shit, again - but arguably a better result than expected considering that dumpster fire of a lineup. WBA might be on the way down with us tbh. Their new manager's home debut is a 5-0 defeat at home to Norwich, lol. Their hierarchy apparently thought "didn't work out with an inexperienced manager with no background in our current league, let's try again." -

Stumbled onto a few wins with the current crap formation and is now stubbornly clinging onto it like a bloke playing FM who thinks he can just quit and reboot from an earlier save if things don't work out. He's absolutely clueless. -

Brilliant advert for the boycott, this. Could do another video based on this match alone. Benny Hill music, or just silence with the 'waaa waa waaaaa' trombone playing every time we fuck up. -

Lol, we're lucky this division is such a joke. Good to see the new guy gets going straight away. -

We simply don't have a competitive team on the pitch. Kids, rejects and nobodies. Topped off with a shit manager nobody else wanted. -

How can it be an "unknown injury"? The Ipswich game was four days ago. How has this conversation gone exactly? "Sorry boss, I'm injured." "Where?" "Not sure." "Oh OK. Get better soon." -
Of those... Gudjohnsen and Morishita - we definitely miss these two, who are decent enough players at this level. Miller - His long throws make me want to slam my head into a wall. Carter & Wharton - Injured is their default status. Montgomery - Vast majority of his appearances were as a sub, has looked OK but absolutely impossible to know if he's at the level required. Litherland - Ironically only involved because of the injury situation. Backup to the backups, although did do well in his appearances. Hedges - I still find it surreal that people now treat his absence as a monumental blow to our chances of success. Pears - Toth is back and better than Aynsley, so this is only a problem if Toth gets injured again. Can't be considered a disadvantage unless that happens. Kargbo - Zero end product, no footballing brain. Has one above-attribute attribute, pace, and that's it. Tavares - I'd rather play with ten men. So yeah, my view is that we only really miss Gudjohnsen and Morishita - maybe Miller at a push, although I still think he's very much a component of the downgrade. Difficult to say on Montgomery and Litherland as we haven't seen enough of either to know if they can be useful for consistent periods. The rest are, imo, largely useless either because they're never fit or just not very good.

The January 2026 Transfer Window

One presumes if they do then Sargent will be sold to balance the finances. Would make sense as he has refused to play for them and wants out. Hard to come back from. -
Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
DE. replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Hull early this season probably the best/only choice in terms of a game we dominated? They were ravaged by illness though, which is probably why. Last season under Ismael we also beat Millwall 4-1 somewhat randomly, although it was after we'd tanked our playoff hopes yet again, so more a last hurrah for the nearly men before most of them got shipped out. -
I wasn't expecting WBA to be in the relegation mix, but they're now only four points from the drop zone. Their new manager only has a couple of years first team head coach/manager experience in the MLS, too, so no guarantee that he can turn it around. I don't expect they will go down, but it's a somewhat risky appointment for a club in their position.

If he wasn't committing fouls you'd forget he was playing at all. -

I struggle to believe that Jorgensen is less "ready" than Henriksson, when the latter looks utterly lost attempting to play up top. -
In a way it's refreshing to hear a manager speak his mind so openly (regarding Glasner's post match comments), but on the other hand... I don't know if that's going to endear him to many chairmen. I'm not sure how many clubs would be comfortable bringing in a manager who may lash out at the board if decisions are made that he doesn't agree with. I had a gander on the Palace forum and their fans don't seem to be too pleased with Glasner's conduct - and that's putting it mildly.
-
I tend to agree, but I do think if we had our preferred first eleven out every match we'd probably just about survive. Football doesn't work that way though. You need solid players available to rotate, and we were so utterly decimated in the summer that it is zero surprise to anybody with a modicum of common sense that our form has instantly tanked the moment we needed to call upon those in reserve. Ismael is a poor manager, but the league is full of 'em. If we go down the largest share of responsibility will lay, as always, with our clueless owners and those they employ to "run" the club.
-
Failing to beat any of the teams around us has given us a huge mountain to climb, and will likely see us down imo. Easy to Ismael to say "wait until the injured players are back", but based on what we've seen it's highly unlikely we'll retain a fully fit team from now until season's end. The problem is that our squad as a whole isn't strong enough.

A lot of people got fooled by his early season purple patch. Post-injury he's back to normal. -

He can fuck off with that nonsense, with respect. One signing which is probably only around £3m if all add ons and clauses are met is nothing special for this division. It only feels that way for us because they've starved the club of funds for so long. -

Tbf if he and his agent didn't do their homework on the club before signing then that's on them. It'd be obvious to anyone with any common sense that we're on a massive downward spiral. -

There are at least five players in our starting lineup who are nowhere near decent Championship level, and it might be generous to limit it to five. -

Venky’s (& Suhail) Out Protest Ideas
DE. replied to DuffsLeftPeg's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Agreed. I've had some good old debates back and forth with people on here which have sometimes made me rethink my position. My view is that - short of obvious, low-effort, deliberate trolling - all opinions should be welcomed. Certainly as far as football is concerned. It's far more interesting to see solid points being put across from various ends of the spectrum as opposed to echo chamber agreement. It only really goes wrong if people start taking things personally, or make things personal. At that point we, as mods, would then typically step in - but I'd much rather see good-natured, robust debate than shut down discussion.
