  1. PB Forget the missing ST's in the JW upper, they will always decline/move on/pass away whether the season has been good, bad or indifferent. The club must look to the youngsters.
  2. Good post. Would like to see Commercial Ken's appraisal.
  3. All this talk of best goals in living memory, blah, blah. Short memories - anyone remember Mr Shearer?
  4. Can't agree with this. It's a bit naive to assume that gate money is directly related to transfer kitty, in fact since TV brass came in (before Sky) attendance has meant less and media exposure has been more important financially.
  5. Hmmm 16,953 Let's say capacity crowds of 32,000 contain 8,000 visitors. That leaves 24,000 Rovers fans max. So 16,953, with few from Fulham, leaves us 7,000 short. Considering the price and the sterile dross served up in recent years, some might say that ain't too bad. Wonder what all those thousands of bored schoolkids were doing yesterday? - opportunity missed messrs Williams, Beamish et al.
  6. Christ!...and I thought it was Brian Kidd that turned us to drink - praise de Lord
  7. Souey and Freddie getting plenty of flak on 606.
  8. On the airwaves CMJ and Aggers are first class, and Aussie Geoff Lawson has made a good summariser.
  9. And bought Cole?
  10. Borrowdale and Stainforth bring back many cheap happy memories.
  11. Back on topic, anyone hope that Mr Murdoch's empire goes the same way as the late Robert Maxwell's?
  12. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
  13. Is anyone else hoping for Murdoch's empire to go the same way as the late Robert Maxwell's?
  14. Off topic but... ...anyone remember Slalom Lager or even the 'D Treatment'?
  15. No stick here Des. The more I see the overpaid Johnny Foreigner at Ewood, the less I want to watch Sky. I'll perservere will R5, C4, R4, BBCTV and the press until Mr Murdoch prevents me doing otherwise.
  16. ....and complementary flask, travelling rug and ST in the JW stand.
  17. Shouldn't be too long before we get some post on this subject.
  18. I, for one, will miss out.
  19. I wonder how many on here do not intend going to a Rovers match this season, even though they can afford to?
  20. Two stretchers? Has he put a few pounds on over the Summer?
  21. Manchester Blue Can I politely inform you that many, many people do not subscribe to Sky.
  22. The Times on Tuesday reports Asda's sales of tea, scones and cucumber up 20% during the Ashes! I suppose the commentary teams of R4, C4 and Sky can take some credit for this. Makes a change from replica shirts. The difficulty for English cricket is that it depends on the weather, whereas football doesn't. There is no doubt that England would have won the third test without Saturday's bad weather. However we are having the benefit of the Ashes in a fine Summer. Consider the reduced interest if the Ashes had been last year, when it hardly stopped raining between 1 July and 31 December. Conversely what effect would Viv Richards have had on local cricket had he played in the Lancs League this Summer, instead of the season he turned out for Rishton, landing by helicopter in a hailstorm, with pitches like blancmonges all Summer. (Still a memorable visit though).
  23. Perhaps there are too many hangers-on employed these days in the conglomerate that is BRFC? It seems that Barbara, Pauline, Liz & co managed far more community outreach, per person, 20 years ago from the Nuttall Street Reception, than the uniform clad hordes of today.
  24. One or two good people are missing my point here. I am not suggesting promotional prices for all home games, but maybe the six least attractive. A under 16 promotion on Saturday would get round all the supervisory issues because schools would not be involved. It would give parents somewhere to take the kids towards the end of the long Summer holiday. Either that or someone at ewood likes looking at empty blue seats.
  25. I know the schools are off, so the usual schools promotion is a non-starter, but the club should look hard at trying to boost Saturdays gate with juveniles, eg under 16s free (or a nominal £1), free coaches to Ewood, etc. I don't think keyrings, mousemats, cheap drinks and dog food will change a thing.
