it`s fortunate that rotherham, sheff wed and qpr are by some margin the worst teams in the league and we started the season quite well, there is a now massive gap in our midfield where adam is`nt being replaced and i can see us losing more games than winning from now until may

Out of 18 remaining games can only see 3 wins at most. Defeat by QPR will leave a required total points of at least 45 (a further 4 wins) which, with this decimated squad (particularly in midfield), looks a tall order.

QPR are a much better team than their current position suggests. And they've strengthened significantly this month with a striker from Belgium (proven goalscorer there) and Hayden from Newcastle. Rovers squad is completely ill-equipped for the coming relegation battle.

  3. Midfield is terrible now without Travis and Wharton.. It comprises Tronstadt (ok), Garrett (nowhere near ) and Buckley (unfit). Although JRC can play there (effectively) its robbing Peter to pay Paul as there is no right back/wing back in the absence of Brittain for at lest the next month. And all is before any further injuries. Meanwhile... the team we face this weekend, QPR, have taken Isaac Hayden on loan from Newcastle. It's impossible not to see where all this is going....

If we do get him I hope that I’m proved wrong, but from his highlights(?) YouTube  reel I thought he looked like a league 2 or lower bruiser who just bulldozed his way to goal pushing aside useless defenders. His shots are hit and hope and he usually ends up on his arse.

I would agree with this assessment of McGuire having seen his Youtube goal/"skills" video. It is distinctly underwhelming and I would think that a similar video of Gally's highlights would look far more impressive - and we know how generally ineffective he is. If he comes on loan it's a blessing and we all know Venkys won't make the transfer permanent in any event.

I would not slagging off Wahlstedt yet...he's young for being a keeper and was thrown in early when he arrived and has made some fantastic saves ...he s not good in the air and his punching...needs proper training and hopefully he can compete next season.

Walstedt is good shot-stopper although parries too often. Man City rate shot-stopping as the 7th most important factor in assessing a keeper. He's not much good at anything else.

January is not the time to sell Adam IMO. Unless the club get relegated or he gets a serious long term injury, then Rovers can likely get a larger fee in the summer. Only way I'd sell this month is if he comes back on loan for the rest of the season. Particularly as I'm doubtful that we'd get any of the money to reinvest in the squad.

This summer is too late to get the profit into the 23/24 accounts. The last big sale was Armstrong which went into the 21/22 accounts. Big losses in 22/23 and this season 23/24 so next summer 2025 would be too late unless sold before the end of the accounting period - a factor that buyers would use to their advantage.

If we got £18m for Wharton, and reinvested 75% of that across the squad we would be a much better side. Any championship club has to accept that Premier league money cant be refused, and use it wisely.

What leads to the demise of a club is to replace a good player with a couple of cheap unknowns and the rest goes to pay wages and cover losses. One way ticket to relegation, smaller fan base, even less income, even shitter players and so on...

Wonder which one the Venkys and Swag will choose......

The funds won't be reinvested in buying established players because their wages are too high. Only players willing to accept a wage just a bit higher than League 1 levels will be incoming. That's the reality.

JRC, Gallagher and Pears like new signings though. Dolan and Hedges too.

There's no doubt they'll play that old chestnut when deadline day comes with no business done. Unless Brighton or someone send us a kid for nothing for us to develop in our relegation scrap.

The other side of that view is that Pickering and Carter injuries are like sending them out on loan - and Hill's already gone. None of the players highlighted are defenders.

Good luck to him but yet another signing that will make zero impact or difference to the problems we currently face.

The 'one for the future' column is busting at the seams, the here and now reality is as thin as rice paper and not even as strong.

Venkys are building a squad for League 1 and below. It will cut their losses so it's not as unlikely as it might seem.

Im a bit more on the fence with JDT now. I was a big fan, but if you step back essentially we are great if we score first but if we concede first we more likely than not get battered. It's been like that since he arrived. Id be interested to know how it was at Malmo.

When things are going well hes great, but the Championship is a brutal league and your team needs to be able to fight when under the cosh. 18 months in I would have expected to have a few games i could point to where he really dug us out with a team talk, subs, firing up players, smart changes of tactics. But he just doesnt seem to have that about him. If we go behind its game over.

If we just scrape through avoiding relegation at the end of the season I would still change him as I would be terrified wed start poorly next year and then be fooked.

Only way Id want to keep him is if he really showed some capability to turn our form around significantly in the next month.

Ive definitely gone from a big fan to very worried that hes a fair weather manager with little to offer when the chips are down.

He was relegated (and sacked) with a club in Holland.

I didn't rate Saxton, the guy who was the best at making something out of nothing was Howard Kendall by far.

Overall you'd have to say Dalglish was best as he was probably the only one with the experience nous and charisma who could have got us over the line to win the title.

Allardyce did a job of sorts for us but he'd be quite a way down my list - behind the likes of Furphy, Jim Smith and Mackay.

Mark Hughes did an absolutely remarkable job with no backing from the Board or previous owners.

Nicer problems to have given our current situation.

Saxton had a mixed bag of signings. Ian Miller, Sellars and Gennoe all good. But Norman Bell and McKinnon rubbish. Jimmy Quinn came good after leaving.

They also manage to sell a player now and then and cope quite fine in the Championship without spending big nor losing 20 mill per season off similar income to us.

Did I mention they get bigger crowds as well due to offering great discount on season tickets to their long suffering fans ?

But Blackburn Rovers can only ever survive going nowhere losing 20 mill plus per season by being under Venkys company umbrella !

PNE lost £15m in the most recent accounts.
