  1. Give us £40m or feck off. That would be my message.
  2. It was more the back to the day job part you lied about But now you mention it your day out in Aberdeen is hardly a European jaunt. Bet you lot were happy about the trip to Turkey though. The Suicide Squad will be kitted out in fake Lacoste and CP Company polos for generations to come.
  3. Yeah I agree with this. He always ran his socks off up and down the right wing but simply isn't good enough for this league. No doubt he will find a league 1 club willing to take him on. Wish him luck in the future.
  4. Don't the PL now follow the "20 is plenty" rule for away games? I don't think Dack will be fit and in honesty I wouldn't risk it. We have a few weeks off after this game and it will give us chance to consolidate our injuries and move forward. Armstrong, Dack and Palmer all carry injuries as far as I am aware. With that in mind I'd look to play to our strengths. Overload the midfield and break up play as often as possible. Snatching an away win is not a shameful tactic to use on occasion. Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Evans Smallwood Bennett Rothwell Graham Brereton/Nuttall
  5. I'd change that "zero player sales" to "zero key player sales" as a positive. Retaining Lenihan, Dack and Mulgrew is of course a huge positive. However, I'd like to see us offload Whittingham, Gladwin and maybe Caddis in the last few days. If we can command even the slightest fee it would be a positive. Wouldn't mind Travis going on loan to get a full season under his belt either.
  6. I thought Stephen Hendrie was a shrewd loan signing the season before last. He came with a good reputation from Scotland and my West Ham mate recommended him. He isn't my mate now.
  7. Bolton fans said that about Armstrong too when he was there. Came to Rovers, played primarily out wide and banged 10 goals in. I suppose it's about how you are played as opposed to where you play.
  8. He meant James Husband when he said "big bro". I don't know when English lads started talking like yank jocks but it's the thing to call a mate your bro now.
  9. Ha ha ha. From Brereton to Sylla. My God. If Idrissa Sylla signs as part of this "fab 4" Tony promised us then it's beyond a joke. Where has he ended up? He's still at Peterboro. Still available for £2.5m.
  10. Some of the best away days of my time supporting Rovers were done last season. Walsall away will always stick in the memory. There was character to them clubs - some of the more sterile away days in the Championship can't compare. I felt this during the Hull game even with our good support! Back to Rodwell though @MackemInPeace provided a pretty good post but it's wise to remember that Rodwell won't be the first player not to perform at a club when given a similar huge contract. There could also be a case that Sunderland in recent years has had a culture of losing - and I mean no disrespect in that. A lot of players would have struggled to justify 70k a week there in the past 4 years. The toxicity of the club, in particularly last season, was all too close to home for us. We bought big players on long contracts and then suffered the consequences. Couple the fact that Sunderland had a few rotten apples in the years Rodwell was there. We can't forget Darren Gibson's pissed up rant. The whole place stunk of unprofessionalism and that is ultimately going to impact on the willingness of players to fight tooth and nail for the shirt. I am in no way trying to excuse some of the behaviour of Jack Rodwell but rather don't believe that that type of behaviour will be allowed in a modern day Rovers dressing room. We have characters in that room like Conway who openly dish out fines for lateness; we have Graham & Mulgrew keeping lads in line and Elliott Bennett making sure each players understands and appreciates the fan base. We honestly have a togetherness now that I haven't seen in years. If anything this dressing room is set up for Rodwell to succeed and, if he doesn't, then he's shown his true colours. He doesn't have anything to hide behind here. Our managers, players and, remarkably, even fans are now all on the same wavelength. I wish him luck
  11. Rodwell is here now and he'll my support. Not the most inspiring of signings given the talk of his attitude in the past but we can only judge him on what he does for us. I trust Mowbray not to bring a rotten apple into the dressing room and I trust Graham, Mulgrew, Conway and Bennett not to let it ruin the atmosphere.
  12. How is he even still a free agent? With some of the utter tosh players that have found clubs this window it's surprising to see a proper centre half still without a club. He must be holding out for a blockbuster deal because I'm sure he isn't short of offers!
  13. I'm not in disagreement just trying to provide at least some justification for what seems like a completely wasted signing
  14. But he's not strong or quick. I assume we will be signing a centre half too. I think Rodwell is a "punt" by all accounts. Doubt he'll play many games
  15. Tyrone the man is simply not fit enough to play in central midfield anymore. Natural progression for older central players is to drop into the back 4. The beauty of it is they have learnt to read the game at a much faster pace so the vision that you get with being a centre half usually creates a very good ball playing defender. Injuries have just accelerated Rodwell's change of position
  16. An injury list with more snapped hamstrings than Hendrix has snapped guitar strings, achilles problems and snapped tendons suggests he's not the most athletic player in the industry.
  17. In fairness 47er we have signed young hungry players. Rothwell, Davenport and Armstrong all fit the bill. It also sounds like Brereton will be coming too and he definitely fits that bill. I don't think that anything has "gone wrong" as such but I do think Mowbray has misunderstood the market a little. His repeated claims of "x amount of players by x time" has lead to a feeling of failure. Had we had no expectation of what to expect I'd assume most would consider this window a success. Lesson learnt I hope for Waggot/Mowbray. I can't justify the Rodwell signing much. It doesn't stink of desperation but moreover an odd decision based solely on sentiment alone. His CV does look impressive on paper but the reality often differs greatly. The only real gripe I have is the under valuing of wide players. We desperately need width and, after the signings of the two defensive types + possibly Brereton, that leaves us with 1 more signing to complete "Tony's 4". If that final signing is Rodwell then it would seem from the outside like a strange error. We may struggle for goals this season which is probably a signal of Mowbray's intent. Consolidation and continue to build next year seems the order of the day- that will suit me.
  18. This doesn't surprise me. We need some bite in defence desperately. Oh for an Andy Todd now - he'd be sent off 5 times a season in modern day football but he'd be a joy to watch him put the fear of god into some of these flair players and, on top of that, bite Evans head off every time he pulls out of a 50-50.
  19. Why are we "giving a chance" to a late 20s injury prone player that has been part of one of the worst Sunderland teams in a generation? Why aren't we "giving a chance" to our own? I can't be the only one here who would rather see Travis in the middle as opposed to Rodwell. Surely we have better central midfielders that we can "give a chance"? Probably the first signing of the summer that I'd be unhappy about. I honestly wish Rodwell the best and I hope he can recapture the form he had at Everton here but whenever I look at him I see a walking crutch and a player shot of all confidence. I'd much rather a young lad with no fear in our midfield to be 'given a chance'. We supposedly have a decent budget so the cheapness of the deal shouldn't be a reason for it. The only justification I have is that Rodwell has nothing else to lose. This is the last chance saloon for him. If he's on a pay as you play and he comes in and trains for the next 3 months before appearing as and when it's not the end of the world. A good body to have in - experienced English lad. Definitely uninspiring in terms of first team additions though. This should mean Whittingham is moved on too
  20. Coming back from 2-0 down gives you an untold amount of confidence as a player. I wouldn't be surprised to see us turning Brentford over the weekend. Nutall looked ok when he came on. That header was a good chance and had me out of my seat for half a second. Rothwell is some player. His passing is incisive and he always seems to put the right weight on the ball. Can see him being a good partner to Evans/Smallwood. I was disappointed with our defence for both goals. It's been a perpetual disappointment for me our defence for the past 5 years. Every time I think we've got a good back 4 here we tend to concede really soft goals. I thought with Bell in there vs Hull we looked a lot more solid than usual - then tonight I was left shaking my head. It's a real tough position to be in because for all my doubts about the solidity of it I couldn't find it within myself to drop either Lenihan or Mulgrew. Nyambe didn't put much wrong and although Bell was a bit wasteful in possession at times today he didn't either. Yet, at the full time whistle, I found myself blaming the defence for us being 2-0 down. It's a recurring theme. I understand that when a defender makes a mistake it usually leads to a goal, a talking point, whereas attackers get away with it a lot more but the fact of the matter is we have for a long time now made too many mistakes at the back. It needs sorting. Other than that gripe (which has been coming for a while, not based solely on tonights performance) I was quite happy with the way we played. A little bit flat but so were they. 2-2 seemed a fair enough result.
  21. Jack Rodwell was an average player when he was at his 'peak'. He coincided with a few decent Everton season in terms of using youth and ruined his career by moving to City in their progression years. The truth is if he was good enough he'd have kept a place in the City squad - instead they squandered 15+ million on him. I bet they couldnt believe their luck when, a few years later and less than a handful appearances, they got near enough £10m from Sunderland. Which probably goes to show why they have ended up how they have. I'm sure there was an alarming stat knocking about that whenever Rodwell played Sunderland tended to lose. He had his contract cancelled at a club like Sunderland because, quite simply, his career as a footballer is done. Miracles can happen. Mowbray may make a footballer of him. The chances are he'd be better off going to the FA and getting his coaching badges. I only hope he doesn't want to become a fitness coach because he hasn't been fit since 2010.
