  1. For those who don't know, Bob "the Butcher" Lord sold Burnley's best player (possibly of all time) to finance the building of a stand he named after his good self. Hence some people sarcastically refer to it as the Martin Dobson Stand.
  2. At the famous 3-2 Boxing Day Derby in 1977 there were around 12,000 Rovers fans at the game. Away section of Longside, gates locked at 2pm with 8,000 in. Beehole End another 2,000+ with others in stands. During the latter part of that season we averaged 10,000+ ie we took more than our home average. Just goes to show what we can do when we try and more importantly when the Dingles are there for the taking. That day was the best ever for atmosphere. Goose bumps down my back and i wasn't even there I was and must admit to being rather scared that day. Why so SAR?

Brilliant day that, just magical. Rovers fans wandering round Burnley at 10 am, no pubs open, Rovers fans locked out of any that did open, home fans only. Glad there was ale on the ground. Bloody great day. It sure was a squeeze in that Longside but what a great atmosphere, Rovers murder 'em first half, had we not missed that penalty I think we would have declared after an hour. Burnley pulled it back to 3-2 nerves jangling till the final whistle.
  4. Hah here they go trying to down play it. Some silly buggar on your board actually suggested we were ###### it that we might not sell out, real daft one that. Don't try to belittle the monumental game this is to you. It's huge, it's the hugest, biggest of the big. Be nice for us to win sure but as I have said I'd take the three against Norwich over a cup win against you lot. Nice try but you are fooling no one with your rhetoric. Same idiot also said t'clarrots would sell out in 2 days, perhaps that silly old dumb clarrot did not see the number of CONFIRMED tickets sold last time they visited Ewood, took 'em many weeks to get that far. So let's wait for the day and see who wins shall we. As for L'pool did Baros play twice, the team they put out for you was totally different than the one for Man U, your list includes 4 semi regular first teamers, where's Gerrard, where's Hamman. If I want to big us up I just go read one of your web sites there are enough clarrots on there going on about how crap you are, oh, and how on earth are you going to beat Blackburn.
  5. Make your mind up Longy, do you want to come on here foh bantah or brag about the hooligan element. Seems you jack me up for something similar. Biggest game for you this, even read some clarrots would be willing to toss league games to get this win under your belt, it is your biggest game. Don't think you will find too many rovers fans would would swap beating you for a Premiership victory right now. Not even me. Gimme three points.
  6. So does this mean half our squad is going to be knackered ahead of our biggest game of the season thus far while Norwich will be good and rested.
  7. What big games have you lot ever been involved in? apart from the mauling we gave you a few years back? Pull the other one samual Now that sounds a lot more like the Gav I know and love.
  8. And lo and behold here you are, putting in your two cents.
  9. Look forward to seeing you in the Miners then Simon I used to go Burnley Miners quite a bit Longsiders, if that's where you are talking about. We used to stop off there on the way back from overnighters at away matches and venture there on Sundays to listen to the bands. Used to be a good Sunday afternoon session.
  10. Nonsense. I'm fed up with the gloomsters writing us off all the time. Rovers will stay up at a canter, starting with a 3-0 triumph over the Canaries on saturday. jim, did those mushrooms in your omelette taste funny?
  11. longsiders, your posts are usually reasonable but I am afraid you have lost it now. Why refuse to hear the general sale argument, it is valid. Obviously we would have sold many more had they gone on slae to the general public. Also, your season ticket argument is funny. Did you yourselves not sell over 12,000 season tickets that season yet after your ST holders had their pick you still have to put them on general sale to amass a total sale of around 5,600. So, given your argument where was all your ST holders, given that you had been waiting 17 years for a crack at your most hated rivals that turnout is not very good either is it. Now you say 7000, but you will give us 6000. Surely there are records that will show how many you sold and put an end to the argument.
  12. Not too long ago someone on here had both Palace and the Saints written off. At the time I mention I thought in Dowie and Redknapp both teams had the wherewithall, the fortitude and the resolve to pull out. I still beleive that. It is going to be Norwich WBA us and A.N. Other, a late one sucked in who will go down. I sort of fancy it to be us and Norwich and West Brom. Almost resigned myself to that fact. Or I am just preparing for the worst. Does anyone have the schedule run ins for the bottom 5 or 6 teams.
  13. Look on the bright side, they beat the clarrots yesterday
  14. Who cares? I couldn't care less if we or they sold out their allocations or not? Both games were televised and it's up to supporters from both clubs whether they'll turn up for the game. It'll be like that on the FA Cup game. We won't sell out, I'm fairly sure of that. It's on BBC, some people may not want to go and take their kids because they might fear that there will be trouble before and after the game. That's the point RIML, it was NOT upto the supporters for the ROVERS end of it. Rovers did not put the tickets on general sale. I feel I can confidently say they would have all been sold had we done that. I know several freinds from Accy who do not attend games like they used to but would never have missed that one, had they been allowed to buy a ticket. Burnleys tickets did go on open sale. Thereby creating an uneven playing field in the attendance bragging rights. How important is it? Not very in the grand scheme of things given that we took a 7-0 agg. But clearly you can tell by the bickering on here it is important to some for braggin rights. With this rivalry one can not be behind in one area, it has to be a matter of reigning supreme, complete dominance in every dept is the only way to truly have it over on the clarrot barstewards. You wait and see, if we lose this it will be all you hear. If you try to have a bit of banter the first thing you will hear, "what was the score last time we played" Let's hope we can pull this one off and maintain our dominance over the clarrots Can we sign Simon Garner to a short contract, put him in rigorous training, bring him on for the last five mins to bang in the winning goal Woohoo, just found out the game WILL be televised here in the US. It will be on Fox Soccer Channel (formerly Fox Sports World) Now we have to win, if I have to watch Burnley play the least Rovers can do for that punishment is provide the win.
  15. Thank you, so what was our game plan if we fell behind, no Stead, No Gally who is supposed to come on and nick a oint, or all three. I saw one or two glimpses of the Stead/Johnson partnership to tell me there may be hope there but we can't afford to be blooding this at such a crucial time. I think we have to stick with Stead until he comes good. Leaving Gally or Johnson on the bench for when we are chasing the game. Worriesome, very worriesome. I too have been concerned about MGP's inability to take on a player, I don't think I have actually seen him do it yet.
  16. Ah. We're blaming him for shots that aren't his fault now are we. I never said a word though did I? BTW, how do you always manage to post immediately after I do is this you are you stalking me? Who was on the bench today, could someone tell me.
  17. You don't score you can't win games. We are so flat up front it is a sreious serious issue. I simply can not beleive we did not address the situation during the Window. Did we put too many resources in the Bazza/Savage situations that we left ourselves nothing in terms of time to get something done. Are we preparing oursleves for the drop? Something must be done and quickly. Not nearly as important as our league position but how we gonna do the dingles if we can't find the back of the net.
  18. Not sure of the outcome of this, if we get after them in the same manner we did Chelsea we have a chance. Even if we lose, play that way and teams will start to become very very nervous about playing us, physcological edge and all. Go in from the start, give 'em hell then Gally and Jemal or Stead and Jemal towards the end, 15 mins from time.
  19. DOn't be silly we all know the clarrots had 20,000 there. Did you not see all them yellow double decker buses.
  20. Whether this has been posted or not I don't know. Every time I hear Mark Hughes speak, or read of his quotes I like him just that little bit more. I particualrly like this statement taken from the LET "You've got to compete at this level and that's what we did," said the Blackburn boss. "Whether or not they're upset that they weren't allowed to play the football they wanted to play is not my concern. "My only concern was to ensure that the level of performance of my players was at the right level and it certainly was." That, my good Blue and White friends is, in my opinion, one of the best statements to ever come out of a Rovers Manager. Brilliant Mark Hughes keep it up, we will have the passion back if you keep it up. Pretty we may not be but if we have balls, blood and thunder footy 100% from all 11 on the pitch then I can happily live with that. Hell, I can be proud of that, anyone else? Blackburn Rovers Football Club, dirtiest team in the prem? NO just the 'ardest that's a little mis understood.
  21. Nice one. Whatever happened to the legions of boys that used to follow Rovers home and away? The same ones who were referred to as 'mental' by the self styled nutters of Millwall in THAT seventies documentary? Some of the old boys I talk to (in their 40's and 50's now) say they hate how the game has become more of a family event than a boys day out. They hanker for the poor football, old terraces and squalid conditions of yesteryear. Jack Walker has so much to answer for... I really would have no idea
  22. ARISE SIR LEFT BOOT THE ABSTER SALUTE YOU Fun days them, the trepidation, the adrenalin. No tickets, pay on the gate had to be there early doors to make sure you weren't locked out of the Longside. Cheap ale (decent too) at the back of the Logside. We usually arranged a van or a convoy of cars for travel. Being in Accy there was always fireworks whether it be at Home or Away. The joy of victory the mind numbing depression of defeat. Twas grand, hope this one will be too. I'd hate it, just hate it if they beat us. You'll hear about nowt else, nothing else would count the last three decades would suddenly disappear in their eyes so it is very much a must win game. If we play like we did against Chelsea I reckon we will be alright. One comment what sort of clarrot spends 6 quid to watch Rovers play, you could not pay me 6 quid to watch them muppets unless they are playing us, won't do it, just not right is it. Should be a corker either way, hope at least they can make it competetive this time, hope we can win with a scabby goal, the more painful it is to them the better. Go two goals down, roar back to win 3-2 in the last 5 mins something like that would be nice
  23. Good grief - what a pathetic post. Still, no surprise. Friedel's fundamentals (whatever they are) have been fine throughout his time at the club. He's had bad patches of form over the last two years, but he's also had many more games when he's been outstanding. He's currently in another bad patch. If that means he's been crap for ages in your opinion then that's up to you. I don't agree. Oh, and what does being a "Yank" have to do with it? You've got more chips on your shoulders than McCain's. Every time you do this. Would you act differnetly if I cahnged my user name to BangladeshBlue. What does being a yank have to do with it you ask? check some of your old posts and you will know. Every difference of opinion I have to you is met with hostility and some form of insult or attempted degradation. I don't agree with you either or your idiotic earlier post that I responded to. However I would not start my response in the completely immature way you did, ever. We both know the truth don't we Scotty.
