  1. It really is, game is almost unrecognisable from just even 20 years ago.
  2. It's not like every time we will score. But if someone would like to keep a tab on every time Nyambe, Williams, Bell or whoever is playing there gets right up near the by-line then that would be useful! I think you'd be surprised how often they do tbh.
  3. We've literally scored a goal in the last 72 hours from the full back getting to the by-line. And it was Williams.
  4. I think we do have the personnel for our interpretation of it. We've swapped Antonsson for Palmer or Rothwell and got Armstrong back for one of the slots - should be an improvement. The 3 should be a number 10 like Dack, and then two more attacking minded midfielders/strikers who prefer to get in behind or cut inside, support the centre forward and get into the box - not really traditional "wide players" or wingers. Width comes from the fullbacks as in pretty much any system these days, and they get protection when forward from the midfield two. Found this that explains it a bit better than I can - https://7500toholte.sbnation.com/2016/1/31/10878956/football-tactics-basics-the-4-2-3-1-formation-explained But I thought it worked pretty well last season, don't you? Certainly not square pegs for round holes. I think Armstrong is great at this and it's devastating and exciting when done right. Not saying I wouldn't have minded someone like Edwards or Maddison though, for flexibility if nothing else - I may be wrong though but I thought Maddison in particular has always played more like an attacking midfielder in this kind of system? Someone like him would probably play "inverted" anyway, negating that "width" either way. The winger is dead! Long live the fullback and four strikers! ? ------- Of course I will pretend I never said this if we sign an out and out winger.
  5. The 3 are forwards. If you prefer think of it as a 4-3-3 but with Dack in a advanced, free role instead of CM and DG as a pure target man. Not sure why people are starting to doubt or not get their heads around this now. I mean, yeah, if only we’d just had nearly a 100 point season playing this way then perhaps it would be easier to understa... oh wait. ?
  6. “Directly” ”...in years gone by...” ?
  7. Posh chairman AGAIN turning down WBA, Ipswich fans and anyone else who asks about Maddison. But not even responding to ours. The prick’s got me wrapped round his little finger. There’ll be nothing in it probably but I can’t stand no rumours so I’m fuelling my own!
  8. Still under the radar a bit Dack I feel, especially for the kind of money it would take. January/next summer on the other hand...
  9. Chansiri - the Venkys of the sea. It’s always stunk to me (especially with their Portuguese connection) and there’ll be a lot of “I told you so” dished out from me at work tomorrow ? Weird thing is the strange cult like atmosphere with the fans around SWFC whilst they’ve completely had the piss taken out of them. A lot of the perennially deluded coming around though now and I’d bet it’s going to get messy... I’ve got a ton on us finishing higher than them at least!
  10. Personally, I’m hyper sensitive about people being negative about the mods. I enjoy your posts usually mate, but a bit tedious this. Anyway, Armstrong is a great “wide forward” with the pace and intelligence to run in behind or run the channels and the ability to cut inside and create or unleash a banger. Pretty clinical finisher too. Born for 4-2-3-1 and pretty much as you were from last season. Confident he can step up.
  11. None of the systems we played last year used “wingers” in the traditional sense. The trend is towards wide forwards/strikers a la Sterling, Sane or Salah... and that is what we seem to be doing with Palmer/Armstrong, and I believe Rothwell can play there too. Wouldn’t mind another in of this ilk, but the priority for me is another centre forward for them to play off.
  12. Christ it must be bad if GB had to walk. He’s not half put up with some bullshit in his first two jobs. His record at Blackpool was remarkable given the circumstances, and for all his faults, he certainly steadied us at the time and got us thinking about the actual football again. Hopefully a non-basket case club is looking for a steady, decent and honourable bloke to take over in the near future - I’m sure he’d do alright.
  13. Have to completely disagree. Hes no world beater but I still maintain that if we’d have had Smallwood in the centre of the park instead of Lowe, we wouldn’t have gone down.
  14. Not sure he’s got the mobility for CM and think you’re underrating his defensive qualities to be honest. If anyone is to blame it’s the full back tracking his winger. edit - yeah what @roversfan99 just said.
  15. ...and we’ve spent 10 million on quality additions, whilst still retaining balance and harmony in the squad. We romp to mid table mediocrity, Mowbray gets the keys to the town, every baby born in a BB postcode is called Tony, and we all carry JAL out to Ewood shoulder high. Fun this game.
  16. It takes times to be honest. I’m just coming round to it. I think. I’ll still call out the @#/? when I think I see it, but we’re all fighting the same corner, ultimately. People are just very different at the end of the day. Sometimes absurdly so!
  17. Honestly you’ve proper cracked me up with the “Nuttall is a wanker” line! ? Can’t say I always (if ever!) agree with you JAL but your passion for the club is always more than evident. Good times this week, I can feel it boys!
  18. Perhaps. I love what Richie can bring to us but he needs someone next to him either very similar in tenacity and bite (as we saw with Bennett at some points) to turn the midfield two into a really destroying system, or with someone who can control the play and create, as well as get stuck in. I’ve honestly never REALLY rated Evans on any of these fronts and it will make Smallwood weaker in his role of Savage-lite if we can’t get someone next to him who is either good on the ball, or when the game dictates it, can get stuck in and about players as well as him. I’m as sentimental and positive about our team as any poster, but ready made, experienced, effective and quality competition just isn’t there in the squad to the ideal Championship standard. My two cents is all and I’ve derailed the thread. I think Evans is a bit shite is the crux, and I always have ?
  19. For me, the Davenport signing is looking a little longer term. Him and Travis on paper should be a great partnership for years to come but I think Travis perhaps needs a loan at least until January to get used to starting men’s football regularly. It’s been overlooked by many, but we need an upgrade in CM right now. Davenport will probably be playing sooner rather than later but we can be doing better than Evans and Richie in this department. At least a bit more experienced, specialist competition.
  20. I’m not usually the type to do this.... But after watching the replays I think Williams should be the one to deal with BOTH goals and Edwards, whilst of course he was great, absolutely had him on toast... frustrating because he often offers so much, started getting better going forwards, got the assist, and his graft is exceptional. Up and down game from him certainly.
  21. Haha I’m using it as a way to convince me not to be pissed off if we don’t get him! AWFUL attitude, whooooooo does he think he is????
  22. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s was the lad that came in acting a bit cocky in ripped jeans and baseball cap judging by his Instagram.
