  1. Truth. They had one of the oldest squads in the PL this year, if not the oldest.
  2. Dingles had a nice run, I don’t feel bad for them
  3. It’s funny how managers are… Ted Williams was arguably the greatest hitter the game of baseball produced, in the modern era. But even with all his skills, in four years of managing the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers, he won only .429% of his games. Leading one manager to opine, “it’s not always about the X’s and O’s, but about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.” Our new manager can only do so much with his skills; here’s hoping he will be given a budget to buy a couple decent players! 🍻
  4. I was wrong about Leeds, too. Thinking about available mgrs… Lampard probably will need a job. In a relegation fight, he has to start Branthwaite, who gets a red card, lol (no, I do not want Lampard)
  5. Isn’t it true, that despite the fact Shearer’s only time to hoist a PL trophy was for Rovers, he’s at heart a Newcastle fan? Besides, Jack Walker, John Williams, & the rest he knew at Blackburn Rovers are gone now.
  6. Is it safe to say most Rovers fans hope we luck our way to PL, Venky’s sells the club, after getting that promotion money to recoup their losses, and some fan in the mold of Jack Walker buys the club? I grew up in Dallas, hence, fan of Dallas Cowboys & Tom Landry. I am nearly as old as the Cowboys (expansion team in 1960, therefore, I am two years younger). Then along came Jones in 1989. Three Super Bowl wins, but none since 1995, and not a whiff of success since Jimmy Johnson left. Irony is, Cowboys & Rovers both hit Paydirt for the last time in 1995. so, if we’re hoping Rovers get lucky & promote, I’m not very hopeful of that coming to fruition.
  7. I had to laugh, just good ol’ derision & contempt, sometimes says it all, lol. I’m probably the most recent Rovers convert on this board. I converted all the way from Texas, when I was 51 years old (I’m 60 now). I never knew the Rovers when they were Englands champs, or winning a League Cup, or playing in Europa. I never even knew them under Big Sam, Hendry, or Kean. I chose the Rovers (or, maybe they chose me?) But, I didn’t choose them because they were champs. It’s the easiest thing in the world to choose a team that’s winning big. I didn’t fall in love with Liverpool, Arsenal, or either Manchester club. I certainly didn’t fall for Chelsea, or Tots. I’ve been to Blackburn, one day, and to Ewood, one time. Never been to burnley. I’d like to believe we’re a much bigger club, but the reality is, Blackburn is a bigger city, with a larger stadium, more hardware, and possibly more adherents. But burnley has been in the PL 9 years, while we’ve languished in lesser divisions for a decade. Maybe we can soon say we’re a bigger club and it won’t ring so hollow.
  8. Anything is possible. My main point, Leeds is so bad this season. Bamford, Dallas, Harrison, et. al., were doing so well last season. Marsch will probably be back on my side of the Atlantic soon.
  9. As much as all of us enjoy the idea, Leeds are dire, and have lost two starters due to red cards. Everton appears safe. Burnley may be tied in pts with Leeds, but they have a big goal diff.
  10. Chaddy, if BBCLancs are correct with those two names, and we stand 50% chance, I’d take either right now. I’m sure it will change by the minute, but I would be content if that is correct.
  11. If we are looking at asst’s/1st team coaches, any chance Pep Lijnders gets a call? We’ve had pretty good times with Liverpool personnel in the past. Neil Critchley hasn’t done badly at Blackpool. Those people at LFC know something about winning.
  12. I spoke of hiring someone who loves the club, is passionate, etc, and I was told that’s not good enough. Maybe not, but I would much rather play for this type of mgr than a sad sack who merely wants to draw a check. Besides, he might have some skills to go with his love of Blackburn Rovers… If Dyche is out of our reach, & Farke says no, Ainsworth sounds like a man with whom the club needs to have a conversation.
  13. Liam Manning…. He’s 36, & won half his games. It may be time to take a chance on a young up-and-comer. Heck, based on some of the other names mentioned, he may not be that big of a risk, anyway.
  14. This is the most important hire the owners will make. They cannot be happy with the last 10 years, or the money sucked away from them. They’ve seen the result of 10 years of stinking thinking. Hire a great football man, get that bounce, a one time trip up to PL gets them much of their money back- not to mention the resulting gate increase. Teams in the 2nd division have made big hires. King Kenny comes to mind. Rafa Benitez was appointed by Newcastle when they were down. there’s no reason not to expect a “name” manager to come in, if the club pursues the right man, and throw enough cash his way.
  15. Youth at the club mentioned twice. I would hope we can continue that, beginning with re-signing some of our most valuable young players.
  16. Meanwhile, Jackson should get mgr of year, if he steers his club to safety, with Mee, Rodriguez, Tarkowski, Vydra & Westwood all out
  17. Critchley, I think he could be a good selection. Another Liverpool coach who hasn’t been mentioned, but is a great football man, is Pep Lijnders.
  18. I was very hopeful of a quick Dyche hire, but as time marches on, I get less hopeful. He’s had promotions to PL, & kept a club up the longest. He checks those boxes. Right now, if I knew it was Dyche or Farke, I’d be over the moon.
  19. Farke would please me… I think many of us here do not believe it will ever happen, therefore we try to temper our excitement. Who knows, owners might surprise us. We just don’t want disappointment, so we expect a plodder.
  20. Adkins % is better (42.1), but has managed fewer games (561), also PL experience > Mowbray, etc. He’s a year younger. In fact, a fairly close comparison, Mowbray & Adkins. Many of us would tolerate a Adkins appointment, with some grumbling. Definitely not a home run hire.
  21. We are just scattershooting now. Y’all know a lot more about English football than me. I’m just looking at names, possibilities, and who might work with our club. We’re going to find problems with whoever we get anyway, as we’re not getting Pep or Juergen. That’s my contribution to the discussion, I will now wait & probably gripe with the lot of you, with whoever we get. Somehow, I bet whoever he is, he won’t be good enough to manage our beloved club.
  22. I do not disagree, but it’s who we have a realistic shot. Hughton was mentioned. I would not be opposed to him, but he is 63. Mark Hughes is 58. Either name is much more exciting than several others on the lists we’ve seen in this thread. Same with Jackett. If we want to build, I would prefer a decade or so younger. I spoke of bias earlier, age would be mine.
  23. I know anything can be proved/disproved by statistics, and there is always a bias/prejudice. However, looking at the numbers of Mowbray, and possible successors (I hope these stats are recent): Mowbray, 58 years old; 793 games managed; 41.4 win%. Jackett, 60, years old; 922 games; 44.1%; Davidson, 45 yrs; 95 games; 30.53%; S. Reid (sentimental long shot), 41 yrs, 1 game, 100%; Warne, age 49; 282 games; 38.3%; Ryan Lowe, age 43; 235 games; 42.13%; Ainsworth, 49 yrs; 523 games; 39.2%. Kenny Jackett has PL experience, 3 promotions, & a better win% than Tony. He checks several boxes. Ryan Lowe is young, did an admirable job until Bury was buried, & has a decent win%. He also is currently employed. Ainsworth has done well within restrictive budgets, is passionate, popular, homeboy, & has a great deal of managerial experience. He has promotion on his resume, and is currently employed, again in promotion fight. Those are three fairly decent candidates, imo.
  24. Hughton, 39.1% winning; Mowbray, 41.4%. Again, I believe if you replace your mgr, at least get someone who wins better than the departed.
