The upside being that there are only 4 teams with that kind of spending power this season, meaning that there are (technically speaking), 2 top 6 spots up for grabs for well run clubs (my bet is Cov and Boro) -

its nothing new, but here you go Blackburn Rovers will continue the push to bolster their squad with John Eustace keen to sign four more players before the transfer window ends. Rovers have signed four players for the first-team squad this summer, plus agreeing to bring Kyle McFadzean back to the club on a new deal. However, there have been four exits too, with Leopold Wahlstedt, Semir Telalovic and Sam Gallagher departing. Jake Garrett has also head out on loan. It means Rovers still have work to do with just under three weeks of the window to go and more arrivals are expected at Ewood Park. It was very evident where the holes in the squad are. One goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder and six attackers made up the bench against Derby County on Friday night. A senior goalkeeper to compete with Aynsley Pears has long been desired. Rovers missed out on Jeffrey de Lange last week and have looked at Dutch goalkeeper Joel Drummel. They looked at Asmir Begovic earlier in the window and his collapsed move to Charlton Athletic raises questions about whether they could return to that deal. Though is conjecture on my part and not anything concrete. Whilst the profile of goalkeeper scouted in June were of an older profile, the additions of McFadzean, Danny Batth and Andi Weimann may have opened up the possibility of a younger option. De Lange is 26, Dromell 27. That's a move away from the likes of Begovic or Tim Kurl, both way beyond their 30th birthday. At full-back, Rovers are desperate for some cover. There is every possibility that one of, if not both, Leo Duru and Jake Batty could leave before the window shuts. That won't happen without an incoming though. Left-back is thought to be the higher priority, if only one arrives. Joe Rankin-Costello, Hayden Carter and Lewis Travis have all started Championship games on the right and could feasibly cover in the absence of Callum Brittain. There is more concern about the suitability of the current options if Harry Pickering were to break down for a considerable period. A central midfield is sought to replace Garrett. Eustace is keen to add a different dynamic to his existing options. The loan market could be the avenue Rovers strengthen that position to not block the road ahead for others. Pace and speed, particularly on the left side, is being looked at too. In an ideal world, a versatile forward who could play across the front line would fit the profile. Those four areas are a minimum that Eustace wants to be addressed, notwithstanding any exits. The future of Sam Szmodics, in particular, is up in the air. It felt inevitable 10 days ago that he'd be following his fellow Sam out of the door. Now, it feels like this could rumble on for the final weeks of the window. A fee of £10million with various add-ons and bonuses was always likely to get the deal done. But Ipswich have haggled and played hardball. Considering they are down to 18 contracted senior outfield players a week before the season starts, you wonder if that will be enough to make them stump up. "We're short on numbers going into the season there's no doubt about that," McKenna admitted after their 1-0 win over Nice at the weekend. A clear signal he wants reinforcements. Szmodics has been reintegrated and Rovers remain in a strong negotiating position. But his goal-scoring return should detract from the fact if Ipswich do finally hit the fee, he will leave the club. With the court case looming too, it will be an action-packed and pretty crucial end to the window. -

But he is a pressing machine and is a great composed finisher. The ideal player to have if you are a lower end Prem team who wont have much of the ball or many chances so need to make the most of the few that they do have -

Standard practice across the board, It generally tends to be a % on any profits made from the sale rather than a % of the total fee -

Yes they have "a decent sell on fee" according to Peterborough's Chairman. Would guess it will be 15-20% of any profit made, just on thee basis of that is what nearly all sell on fees are. But whatever the amount is, Darragh MacAnthony will be shouting it in pounds and pence from the rooftops shortly after it happens, as it is what he does, as evidenced by the linked article If you are asking why Peterborough have a sell on, it is because it is standard practice to include them, even Rovers do it, as inept as they are (see the Raya add ons) -

If Rovers were to bring in a right back/wing back on loan, I could see Leo Duru really benefitting from a League 1 loan. 19 year old, quick, good with the ball, tore up PL2 in the second half of last season, but firmly behind Brittan at Rovers and his development may stagnate without regular first team football at this stage. Can see him getting a start tomorrow night for Rovers -
He jumped ship from Liverpool to come here a couple of years ago because they saw him as a wide forward but he wanted to play more as a central midfielder https://www.empireofthekop.com/2022/08/25/blackburn-rovers-complete-coup-as-permanent-signing-joins-from-liverpool-and-becomes-latest-to-head-from-merseyside-to-lancashire/

It is, but Rooney has an uncanny knack of regressing every team he touches
-
How does Wayne Rooney keep finding work? Plymouth look awful, Whitaker looks a shadow of the player he was last season, Hardie, Cooper and Bali Mumba, who looked like some of their better players last season are all on the bench, and most of his new signings look like they are confused as to what a football actually is The really bizarre thing is that surely most people expected this, apart from seemingly those who employ Rooney in the first place

suspect that's a recency bias that a lot of us hold, as Neil mentioned a couple of posts back, he never properly recovered from last seasons injury, (think he may have had it recur twice) -

Excuse me being pedantic, but do you/Nixon mean the keeper if we get him would not take up one of the ESC slots? There are 4 ESC slots available, but 25 man squads can have up to 17 foreign (non home grown) players in them Edit - Chaddy seems to have answered this -

If he currently takes up an ESC spot, then I am pretty sure he still takes one up if he is away on loan, but not if he is sold, as well as other factors that have been mentioned such as sell on clauses (even if it was a free transfer) -
Is it possible to check this with Rich Sharpe? "Three of the new recruits have signed deals until the end of the season, joining Hyam*, Dolan, Hedges*, Markanday*, Sigurdsson, Gilsenan* as out of contract in 2025 (*known options)." He seems to be stating that Hyam has an option (unless I am reading this wrong). Not seen the club mention anything about this previously, and they do not normally neglect to include mention of such clauses, but guess that Sharpe may have heard something from the player/club at some point https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2022/august/28/dom-deal-done-/
