  1. Both of @47er 's sggestions are far too technological for this old fogey!!
  2. Nobody ask, please, what a 'curmudgewqon' is. I told you, "Insomnia rules!!"😉
  3. Insomnia rules - I'm like a member of that family in the old Disneyland Paris TV advert who can't sleep because they're "too excited"!! But at the same time, I'm trying not to go too far o.t.t. Don't forget that JDT's always spoken in terms of us being 'a Project', which is going to take a few transfer windows to come to fruition. So, if we don't make automatic promotion this season - unlikely, I'd have thought because of the way that That Lot and Middlesbrough have got their acts together - and stumble at the play-off stage, I hope there'll be very few on here who'd turn on JDT and what he's achieved since the days when we only knew of him as an international forward whose name most of this country mispronounced. (Nice touch by the BBC TV's commentator last Tuesday night, btw!) However, if we stumble either in the Play-off games or in the F.A. Cup games between now and the Final, I'm sure only a curmudgewqon would fail to recognise how far JDT and his coaching team have brought us in the less than 12 months since he was announced as our new Head Coach. Instead, I'd rather draw a parallel with the first promotion I can - just about! - remember. Under Johnny Carey, who was just as unknown a quantity - managerially - in the mid-1950s when Rovers appointed him. It took him 4 seasons of finishing 8th, 6th, 6th, and 4th before the climax of the Division 2 season at The Valley - see recent entries on the Nostalgia Thread - and that fabulous 4-3 win we listened to on the old Light Programme. (The Dad of at least one of us on here only switched on very near the final whistle so he could check his pools coupon!😉) So "Rome wasn't built in a day", and if we don't win either promotion or the F.A. Cup this season, there's always the next stages of "the Project"! Incidentally, @Neilbristol, another possible solution to your problem's occurred to me. Certainly while we're playing so many games other than at 3.00 on a Saturday afternoon, if you can't pick up commentary on the BBC, what about the talkSPORT stations? Just an idea!
  4. I'm no Technology Whizz, @Neilbristol, but used to have a similar problem when I lived in the catchment area of BBC GMR (Greater Manchester) so this might work for you. Do you have the BBC Sounds App on a laptop or mobile phone? When you open that App, you'll find a list of Stations, including all the BBC Local Stations. If you click on Radio Lancashire, you might find the local commentary which I get as a resident these days of Blackburn. Hopefully, that will do the trick for you. However, there may be another couple of hurdles, which will be more difficult, if not impossible, for you to get over. And they are: i) the contracts which the BBC signs which seem to prevent them broadcasting things like local sporting events to listeners not resident in an area likely to be interested in such an event. So why would anyone living in Brizzle in his right mind be interested in listening to a Radio Lancashire commentary on the Mighty, Magnificent BRFC blunting The Blades?? Apparently the BBC's contracts people, it feels like occasional scoreflashes on Radio 5 are - thought to be ‐ enough for such listeners as them (you!). The second hurdle is that because Radio Lancs broadcasts on different frequencies and DAB, you may find that the only Radio Lancs commentary you can get via the Sounds App is the one covering, say, Lincoln City vs. FleetwoodTown. And, afaik, there's the square root of bugger-all you can do about that!! Hope that either one of the above suggestions works for you or that there's someone else on here less technologically-challenged than me who can properly solve this problem for you.
  5. Here's a link to that story: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/mar/01/dozy-mmobuosi-takeover-questions-hang-over-sheffield-united?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
  6. Despite my best intentions, I wasn't able to get to Ewood and am only just catching up on this thread. If nobody since page 6 on here has nominated Tyrhys Dolan for "Classiest assist in English football, 2022/2023", please allow me to do so! 😉😅😂🤣
  7. Shouldn't that read, " Bits of Manchester are shitholes.", @roverandout?
  8. Good piece of psychology by JDT, imo. After knowing about: the feelings among Adam Wharton's advisers on the "young man" (to use the phrase Brian Clough used to use) and his abilities & potential; and the praise being heaped on him by, among others, Tuesday night's BBC commentator, JDT's challenging him to be more consistent - which I'm sure he knows he can be.
  9. "Yorkshire born, Yorkshire bred; Strong i' th'arm; weak i' th'head!", @Andy Incidentally, that statistic you quoted was one I'd never seen before. Not doubting it, like; it sounds dead right to me, who uses the phrase "Lancashire's Most Historic Football Club" in all correspondence to my Dingle-supporting old schoolmate now resident in NZ. I've never seen a list of "The most successful clubs in English football"; can you point me to your source of information, please, so that I can quote the relative standings next time I'm writing to my mate Down Under?
  10. At first, @Mike E , I thought your spouse was that rarity among women, a female programme-collector! 😉
  11. My brain's beginning to hurt with all these moves!
  12. Mogadon might have signed him, @jim mk2. He'd have been impressed by his reputation for doing, erm, "New tricks"! 😉
  13. I thought there was some Nigerian billionaire after buying them??
  14. I feel sure this will be more or less the last thing - possibly not word-for-word! - that JDT will say to the players before they go out for each half of tomorrow's game. He seems almost like some sort of alchemist, capable of imbuing the squad with a self-belief, which was absent under the previous management. And even if we only draw tomorrow - I hope we don't, obvs! - not only does it keep us in the mix for, at least, the Play-offs but it'll give us a measure of how sharp The Blades are and what we need to do to blunt them in a fortnight's time.
  15. Perhaps the answer to your question, @M_B , lies in the quality of the coaching that the current squad receives?
  16. I remember friends with Newcastle United loyalties telling me at the time we signed Armstrong that Benitez had let him go for such a low fee because he didn't think he was capable of a career at the top level. So it was no surprise to me when we did so comparatively well - if memory serves, Ashley had inserted a 40% payback clause in what we got for "Arma" - when Southampton bought him.
  17. I don't like the word; it savours of Blairism and the 1990s to me. But I believe we're stakeholders in Rovers in the same way as the Grimsby Town fans - and their fish! ‐ are stakeholders in the project of which their club's at the vanguard to regenerate their town.
  18. We certainly seem to be a very dysfunctional club. From what I read on here, if JDT wanted players recruiting during the recent opening of the transfer window, he had a higher priority for strengthening other positions in the squad than even as quality a midfielder O'Brien is said to be. The club had had plenty of warning that the window would be closing shortly after the final whistle had blown in an away game the best part of 100 miles away from Ewood. As I sometimes write in posts on here, I am so far from being ITK that - in this case - I don't know how the club office staff operates. So I don't know if it's a perk of the office staff's jobs that they can go to away games for free, if they want to. Whether it is or not, surely someone in the club's hierarchy - yes, Mr. Waggott, I am thinking of you - should have said, "We will need some staff in the office until 11.00 pm in order to ensure that any transfers which are pending that evening can be processed smoothly and before the transfer deadline." It certainly seems that nobody took responsibility - for establishing such an arrangement. Consequently, and even though someone at the EFL wanted an answer to a highly unlikely hypothetical question, we have been found responsible for two transfers not going through before the deadline. There could be quite a lot of reputational damage for the club in future transfer windows following this sad business. I don't expect the club's CEO to understand this; unlike us, he probably isn't a fan of the club. But for me - and I would be surprised if I were the only fan to feel like this - this episode has taken the edge off what JDT appears to be achieving with the players.
  19. Leicester City's team, especially in the first half, played like they thought they just had to turn up to win the game. Little did they know how little they knew!! 😁😅😂🤣 My main reason for not going last night was that I'd 'ticked' the King Power back in the glory days; how I regretted that decision while watching Channel 601. It would have been lovely to have been able to quote Max Boyce and say, "I know; I was there!" Even so, I was so pumped up that it must have been after 3.00 am before I finally got to sleep. More of that, please, Rovers!! Oh, and I can't remember adding so many 👍 to a thread!! It's lovely to be part of a group where, as @47ersaid, the "Board's come together."
  20. Thanks for that, @Mattyblue; it'll be in my Dingle-supporting old schoolmate in NZ's Inbox when he wakes up in the morning; around teatime GMT. You'll probably be able to hear his roar of annoyance from wherever you are!
  21. Looked at another way, as both the BBC commentator and the Leicester fans' report on the game did last night😁 , 15th in the Premier League is only 10 places above 4th in the Championship!
  22. Imagine how sick Gary Lineker would have looked if it had been!😉😁
