Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
M_B replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I don't normally take any notice of all that expected goals malarkey, but for a team which doesn't score many, I'd expect the loss of our top scorer to have an effect. -

So it's Swanseagate then? At least Eustace was at the ground 🤣 -

How many in 10 or 15? How about the last game before he took over? Once again, the performances have been woeful, carrying on from the Swansea debacle,,but it's a lot more nuanced than just keeping on quoting 3 in 5. -

We've lost our top scorer and both left sided forwards. Hyam looks like he's only playing because there's nobody else. I'm not defending the performances, they've been terrible, but to just trot out those figures as if they're gospel, without any context, doesn't tell the full story. -

We had, but the fact also is that he hasn't got the same players at his disposal. -

You keep saying that, where's our top scorer? And that's just one example. -

I think you're painting a rosier picture with that last paragraph than is true to be honest. The rot had well and truly set in, and the squad Ismael has to work with is down to its bare bones. It isn't a fair comparison. -

When he failed to control the ball and lost it, I said he looks like our 5 year old grandson kicking a balloon round our front room, but with less control. -

This situation is 4 months in the making, not 4 games. -

Can't remember exactly but the run under Eustace before he left was something like 2 wins in 11. The league position belied the fact that we were on a terrible run. Then again, it doesn't really matter what formation is used if the players fail to turn up. -

I thought, pre Derby, that the only way we'd get a run together would be to try to get back to being tight at the back again, with a defensive 6 +Pears. That's despite it not having really worked for 3 or 4 months. I was assuming that the players would have actually given a shit, my mistake on that detail. So, I'm now of a mind that Ismael needs to start kicking a good few up the arse and finding out who actually cares. I don't really put any blame at Ismael's door for the last 2 "performances", although Dolan would have been the last player I'd have taken off last night, if they all tried as hard as him we'd be in a much better place. I can't do with sulking in life in general, let alone overpaid tossers who let the club down in the last 2 shitshows. So, kick some arse Ismael, and don't pull any punches. -

Well, Eustace's way stopped working months ago, well before he left. Might as well see what the Ismael way looks like, hopefully it involves some home truths, that was truly pathetic. Should be arses kicked all over the dressing room after that "performance" Bad decision taking Dolan off. -

I don't really remember thinking of him as excellent. At the time, there wasn't any obvious gulf between the two, resulting in Pears keeping his place. -

M_B replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
At the time, I didn't think there was much in it to be honest, I thought Pears probably suited the way Tomasson wanted to play rather than Kaminski. Pears was by far the better with the ball at feet, especially in tight areas. Kaminski definitely improved the longer he stayed out of the team, as per most players. -

Tomasson obviously didn't think he was "far superior", or he'd have put him straight back in. There is no grey area here,no ulterior motive at play, Tomasson preferred Pears. -

Tomasson selected him, justification enough, you just never got over that he rated Pears over Kaminski. -

There will be transfers, of that there is no doubt. In what form God knows, but we will get players. It's more the question of who picks them which needs confirmation. -

Just can't imagine not renewing to be honest. I just hope that Ismael and the club are in line with transfer policy, whatever it is, and if indeed there is one. We surely can't have another "who picks the players to sign" situation. If it's Gestede or if it's Ismael then so be it, as long as Ismael is happy with the situation. The half arsed disaster of Eustace and Tomasson is no good to anyone. -

Once Batth is fit, our best chance of a decent run in, is to try to regain the form of the back 7 players, now Tronstad is back, and that includes Pears in goal. We're also largely dependent on Beck and Pickering recovering quickly and getting up to speed. If we can regain anything like the defensive solidity of earlier in the season, and with Gueye now looking like a proper centre forward, it's the only way I see us having even half a chance. -

Other than come on here and call other fellow Rovers fans happy clappers, what have you done that makes you a non happy clapper? That phrase proper gets on my tits. -

Suppose the number of times you go behind has to be as much of a factor as how many points you gain.
