Every football fan I've spoken to who has seen Wharton for the first time has exclaimed their surprise that Wharton can tackle. It's quite something seeing more and more people understand just how good he is at so many things. It's frankly insulting to limit him to the description of merely a deep lying playmaker. Akin to calling Ibrahimovic a poacher. I would agree that Anderson is very good and a great foil to Rice, but I'd love to see Wharton get the chance to elevate himself again. He doesn't fail.

You can't underestimate how important it is for a manager to continue being seen as a premier League manager. Even another 6 months at a relegated club would be better long term than maybe getting promoted from the championship. Saying so what to a pay rise is also very funny.

Pay rise, opportunity to save a team in trouble, better squad and probably assurances that he will get to rebuild in the championship. Would be foolish not to at least consider it.

A saints fan has piped up with the same. I'd rather not have the fat bastard drag me through the courts but it doesn't seem impossible, given some of the angles he's had on Rovers in recent history.
