  1. If he doesn't want to play for our teeny club then he can f*** off. Why on earth is he captain when he clearly wants out? He's been playing well this season admittedly. Hopefully such performances will raise his stock so we can get rid for a good price in January.
  2. Brilliant. I'm doing my best to stifle my laughter at work. My two favourite bits: As I said, fantastic.
  3. I remember Asprilla scored a similar type of goal for Newcastle a couple of years back in UEFA Cup. It was against Metz I think. Anyway, Bentley's goal was brilliant but Van Persie's was absolutely amazing.
  4. I watched last night's highlights on Sky and I have to say I was mightily impressed once more by all involved. Heskey's goal was a superb one-he did well to get in front of his marker and Friedel had no chance with the finish. We battled though and clearly dominated the rest of the game (save for a brief patch in the second half where we couldn't clear our lines-too many players dwelling on the ball). Bentley's goal was a thing of beauty, Jeffers's pass was inch perfect-fantastic football. Yet again, I thought McCarthy looked the business. His control, power and ability in the box is fantastic and once again he got a goal-scorer's goal. Roberts frightened the life out of them when he came on. In particular I thought Jeffers performed very well, he can't get a goal but his movement and speed of thought is indicative of the obvious potential he possesses. Emerton and Neil gave two swash-buckling displays at full-back. Finally, I was chuffed for Brown. It's hard to come on for your debut in place of a club legend but he acquitted himself well. His save from the rebound was more impressive than the crap penalty itself. He also turned one round the post very nicely. Well done that man
  5. Another excellent result. I though that we were dead and buried in true Rovers fashion as soon as I heard that Bruno had struck early on. However, once again we showed great character and ran out winners. I look forward to the highlights. Especially Brown's exploits. Three wins on the bounce. Nice.
  6. What about that segment in Burnleh? Talk about Deliverance country.
  7. Why would you buy any FIFA game? They're sh*te.
  8. I don't know if it's been mentioned but anyone?
  9. Ironically enough, it was The Observer leading the charge in last season's great debate over dwindling attendances all over the Premier League. Even as a Guardian reader, I find that article lazy and smug in its inference.
  10. Very true. Though we don't have 'Protestant' schools here as such-they are simply state schools, Catholics do go to them. The vast majority of Catholics in Northern Ireland (from all social levels) though attend RC maintained schools. I remember that my school used to organise trips to Celtic matches regularly. We were never offered the opportunity to go to Anfield, Highbury, Old Trafford or Ewood-there would have been no point. However Celtic were thing all students would be interested in.
  11. Isn't his father-in-law a season ticket holder at Parkhead? I've heard Ferguson foots the bill-I bet he doesn't hate him with a 'fiery poison'. You'll find that lots of Irish people will follow Celtic and another team. I myself am a Rovers fan through and through but coming from a big Irish catholic family (one generation of which is Glasgow born and raised) I follow Celtic to a certain level. My father, my uncles and my Glasgow relatives are all fervent Bhoys supporters. You may not understand the concept (there's no reason why you should) but in this part of the world it's very much the norm.
  12. What an absolutely brilliant performance from Rovers. Every one of our players was on top of his game. Emerton, Nonda, Neil, Ooijer and Khizanishvili were particularly impressive. McCarthy's goal was brilliant, Bentley's was a thing of sublime genius. While each of our back four were individually strong we still looked vulnerable. Only Salzburg's lack of real guile saved us from conceding. However, enjoy it while it lasts. I'm on a real high today. I can't wait to get over for a European night.
  13. DO NOT FALL FOR LOVEJOY'S TRICK ON THE CATWALK! He does it every week and someone always obliges. Don't shake his hand and don't walk behind him. In fact walk across the front of him and react as if he has groped you. That would be quality.
  14. I saw Jurassic 5 in the Ulster Hall last night. Absolutely effing superb.
  15. What a good result. Three points and a clean sheet from a tricky away game is not to be sniffed at. Nonda's goal was superbly taken and our front pair (surely the first choice combination now?) looked dangerous both on the ground and in the air. McCarthy in particular looks a class act. I was impressed also with Emerton at right back. He seemed to link up well with the ever developing Bentley. He has the engine to get up and down the flank and his work rate is superb. Perhaps full back was always his best position? His reputation at Feyenoord was built on his performances there.
  16. The new trailer for 300 went up on the internet yesterday only for it to be taken down. You can however see it on Youtube.
  17. Anyone else read Noami Novik's Temeraire? It's a cracking story set during the Napoleonic wars, only battle is waged not only on land and sea, but in the air. On dragons. It's one of a trilogy and Peter Jackson just bought the film rights. Nice.
  18. Emo kids are now the new ruling class outside City Hall. They really are a bunch of pretentious, inane fools. 'Oh, I'm so depressed. I hate my life. My daddy's a QC and I live in Malone Park. Yet I still feel obliged to affect an air of resigned defeat in life and wander through the streets with my equally aimless mates (all of whom, funnily enough, look the same)' Zane Lowes.
  19. I saw the Sky highlights last night. What on earth was going on in our backline? There were huge swathes of space in our defence, Barton's goal in particular was an utter embarrasment.
  20. It's about bloody time we got our first win. However Citeh's comeback smacks of complacency. Still we'll take the three points gladly.
  21. Just bought Seth Lakeman's new album Freedom Fields. Brilliant stuff-a nice modern take on traditional English folk music.
  22. I've heard some of the new Kasabian stuff and I have to say I don't like it. The debut was brilliant, so I think I'll be sticking to that.
  23. Indeed you have. I was however adding my two penneth.
  24. I've just gone through the Sky planner. No Rovers. Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham and those f***ing Derry City bumpkins. Absolutely bloody disgraceful.
  25. Very good point. I too am sick of this inane fool clogging up the airwaves. Chelsea tapped him, they offered him more money, he fancied the look of it ('holy sh!t 5k more') and then he blames Arsenal for taking it badly. What the hell was he doing there in the first place? In my opinion Arsenal as a club has handled itself very well. They were rightly angry about it, but offered him a new deal which he signed. He then takes the hump that Arsenal were ###### off about his behaviour, stradles his high horse and makes it clear that he wants out of the club that developed him into such a superb player. Arsenal made it clear that he was welcome too leave but wished him well on his travels to the land of the rouble. In addition, they got a couple of million and the best central defender in the league out of the deal. Yet still it rumbles on. Cole continues to say that 'it ain't for the money' but 'itz cuz I wann win stuff' (what about all that 'stuff' that he won at Arsenal?). And now we have has ghost-written 'autobiography' hitting the shelves. More accusations will fly and yet more print will be wasted In the words of my grandmother, 'What a palava'.
