And some players won’t play unless they are absolutely 100% fit. The slightest niggle and they aren’t playing. Ayala ring any bells ? We’ve all played in amateur teams with guys like that. I was reading about an All Black forward the other day. He said “ I won over 100 caps for New Zealand and I reckon I was 100% fit for 2 of them “. Different code, different attitudes. Let’s put it this way - if we’d have known he was going to be missing for the first 3 months of the season should we have still signed him ? Knowing all along that Gally is only a nose bleed away from going missing for a month or two at the same time.

Given even the dogs in the street knew about his fitness history at Plymouth you would have thought he would have been given the fitness test to end all fitness tests. Maybe it was the fitness test that knackered him up ?

What were they doing at the medical ? He’s not been properly fit since he walked through the door.

I saw him a few times, top notch player. He was part of the City team that ran us ragged in that 1-4 FA Cup defeat. My best memory is of a league game at Ewood a week or so before he left Bolton for City. We were winning 2-1 late on and Bolton wanted to sub off striker Bob Hatton and bring on another player. Hatton was dragging his feet, he didn’t want to go off. Franny Lee came running over and gave him a real mouthful, telling him “ Get the fuck off this pitch now ! “ This was right in front of me and I was a bit shocked to hear him swearing at a team mate.
