Yeah he started out there before he went to York and then Bournemouth. I’m sure I saw him playing for both those teams at Spotland. He was partnered with Phil Boyer at York I think. When he was at Bournemouth he had Harry Redknapp on the right wing and another good winger on the left. Alf Arrowsmith was going to be a top player but he got a bad knee injury. -

Ted McDougall playing for Liverpool along with Ronnie Moran and Gerry Byrne. Some good players in those teams. -
I’ve had to do that a few times back in the day. It was usually a booking, never a red card then. I accept things have changed a lot since the 1960’s and 70’s.
-
I’d have marked his card and bided my time until the away game.

Yeah Kerr was a real player. Another David Dunn. We were all set to sign Alec Lindsay but Liverpool pipped us at the last minute. I watched Bury a lot then, a mate was in and out of their team at the time, and Lindsay was the sort of player you could build a team around. The new Bobby Moore. He was really a centre back but Liverpool insisted he played at left back.

Yes he came as a make weight in the Hunter deal. Valued at £20k - 2 games later he was gone to Palace for £55k. Played 30 games for Palace and then drifted out of the game. Hunter was a class act. We’re jumping up and down about Van Hecke but Hunter was twice the player. Ken Knighton came at the same time. Now he was a warrior.

There’ll be a lot of players watching that and thinking “ He’s a snapper, let’s get to work “. Probably a straight red card for the Blackpool player but the Burnley lad lost his shit completely. Totally pointless sending off. Just roll over a few times like everybody else.

They score first and it’s game over again. The white flag comes out. Sign some backbone this time. -
Edit I thought the game was at Blackpool. I’d say Burnley are two goals better at home.
-
Burnley must be at least a goal better but it is a sort of local derby. It’s usually the team that wants it the most that comes out on top,

Exactly. That argument is significantly flawed. You never get the chance to bring on a group of young players good enough to challenge for promotion together because bigger clubs take them off you as soon as they show any signs of promise. One by one they’re lured away. Phillips is the classic example. Mike England was the best centre half I ever saw. We managed to hold on to him for several seasons in spite of him being the best in his position in the country. He eventually went to Spurs for a British record transfer fee for a defender. If he was playing today he would be at City or Liverpool etc before he’d have played a full season out for a mediocre fee. That is if he wasn’t taken away as a youth player.
