From what I saw Bauer doesn't seem to be much of an improvement on Downing. Maybe we can dodge a bullet there now they've been promoted. The lad Bielsic ? playing on his right looked a better bet to me.

I remember reading some stats regarding Robbo when we were struggling in the Prem. His saves to shots ratio was the worst of any keeper in the division. It seemed to me that any shot from distance was a goal.

I used to work away from home a lot. Our limit was 2 hours drive, after that it was overnight stays until the job was finished. I also had back trouble and after a 2 hour drive it took me a while to straighten myself out.

I'm not sure 4 hours in a car every day is ideal for his hamstring, or Graham's back issues.

I agree with you regarding your goalkeeper being vital. When Brian Clough went out and broke the record by signing Peter Shilton he said " Nobody can lose you a game quicker than your goalkeeper so I want the best money can buy ".

Yes you're right, that was a perfect description of him. Guys at work used to rate him off the usual highlights reel. I'd reply " Yeah but that's all he did in the game" . He ran around a bit but to what effect ? Anybody who let's Arteta poke him in the eye and does nothing about it hasn't much beating under badge for me. I think your pal is right but how long is this situation allowed to go on ? He's been out for 18 months now without him being seriously injured initially. I seem to remember his last game was at Rochdale in that egg cup we were in and as far as I can recall he didn't get injured in that game. He's either got to be fit enough to play or retire if the injury isn't responding to treatment.
