[Archived] The Old Gate Debate
SIMON GARNERS 194 replied to Gav's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Theres nothing more the club can do IHB....its only going to get worse. The club must now be at a stage where they are losing money hand over fist everytime we play at home,at a guess the 'break even' mark is now being fallen well short of.Local folk seem to be finding plenty of other things to do when Rovers play at Ewood. People talk about the lack of away support hitting our gates but lets be honest here, less and less people are turning up to watch Rovers...the pride and passion seems to be fading fast. -
Well before my time Fife but the above figures seem like pure speculation to me.I've no doubt that maybe some opportunist players did do away with a few tickets but 15,000.....Give over!!!! I have no doubt the rumour mongers in and around the pubs of Blackburn at the time did more than their fare share of damage to club relations. The one result? It has to be 2004/05 cup semi-final with Arsenal....the press reaction to Rovers defeat was nothing more than a disgraceful attack on the club and its players.

Not good enough for Ewood? -
Dare I ask what ticket sales have been like to date Lee?

Getting back to footballing matters the Nancy game is now huge....once again with the cheap tickets lets hope the folk of Blackburn can be bothered to support their club in numbers. Wouldn't it be nice to finish top.

Ciao Romax!........it will be good for you to know you have made the right choice in Rovers -
Thank god we never drew Feyenoord at Ewood...I'm sorry SCF08 but a 'section' of your support are the scum of the earth.Bizarre to see the Nancy fans all dissappear! Having said that what sort of idiot police (if indeed it was them) fire tear gas into a packed stadium? P.S. Nancy look a very classy side.

Star player sold-leads to struggle in league form. Does it look like I'm wrong. 4 strikers have been signed. McCarthy's been too inconsistent. Nonda hasn't made any impression...he's strong though so was that oaf Kuqi. Peter Taylor should have learnt from his Akinbiyi error. Roberts is injured following a series of inefficent displays and Jeffers hasn't found top form. Unfortunately I'm finding it rather hard to disagree with this comment. -

I have to agree with some and say all this 'European glory' is giving a slighty false tint to the season. We are where we are in the league because we have not collected enough points and quite simply not performed to potential in certain games, the table does not lie. We look a tired and jaded side at the moment lacking in ideas and as for the 'nothing to worry about' brigade....... leave that Amsterdam space cake alone will you! I hope like many the purse strings will be loosened come January and the team significantly strengthend in the right areas -
Cant ever remember the old Blackburn End being that full as it was against Villa that season, right down to the front fence shoulder to shoulder.Dangerous crushes at the exit at the end of the game as the crowd swayed to get out......easily 7-8,000+ on the old terrace that day.The game is included on a video somewhere that I used to have.... 'Lancashire hotshots' Despite the above it was a brilliant atmosphere on the BBE that is sadly missed today.

The BRFCS.COM flag was clearly seen Great result but once again I have to say in all honesty we look a very tired side at the moment lacking in creativity and I think its worrying. In the name of god please give Hughes some funds to strengthen come January Rovers board! Fair play to Feyenoord, far from their best but easily the hardest game to date for Rovers. -

So much for your big 3-1 win prediction for Feyenoord SCF08!!!! WELL DONE THE BLUE 'N' WHITES!!! Lets beat Nancy out of sight at Ewood and finish top of this group. Sad to see drinks and other objects being thrown at Pedersen from the so called fans of Feyenoord at the start......PATHETIC. Can I also say that some of the commentating on Eurosport was appalling...if your going to cover an English side In Europe then at least give us some credit you pathetic b'stards!!! I almost got the impression that they were wetting themselves for van Hooydonger to come on and score the winner at one stage. -
Watched the Celtic v Utd game tonight and the result was just a little too deja vu for my liking!!! LUCKY CELTIC.

Ahhhh but here's the rub,all these 'local' clubs didn't seem to pose such a problem even only as little far back as 2002/03 season did they IHB? With all due respect it seems to be a ready made excuse for what is happening at the moment. Its the atrophy and general apathy of support from within the town of Blackburn itself that worries me most and clearly at present there is no light whatsoever at the end of the tunnel for Rovers with this issue. What would be the impact of a relegation struggle this season on gates for next season? We can only pray and hope that matters dont get as bad as when Burnley last played in the top flight infront of gates of 11/12,000 in the late 70's. -

I want to know why in 3 short years our attendances have gone through the floor for a very 'successful' town club in the top flight. The decrease is extraordinary.....how have a similar sized club like Middlesbrough managed to maintain over 27K average crowds? http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/py.../pages/00ec.asp Is it down to loyalty? fans with more passion? Middlesbrough more a 'football town' than Blackburn?............ Why be embarrassed Ozzie? I'm embarrassed for the club when its efforts to get more folk in are met with two finger's and a pint of pub bitter.I'm embarrassed for Mark Hughes and the players playing for us in front of a rapidly becoming half empty stadium. Perhaps I should just except it and not give a toss to our present plight, Just like the many thousand's who have seemingly thrown in the towel with our club over the year's,well,3 at that! Its the gradual decline to the inevitable that hurts.
