I’ve said this before but I used to go to the gym built into the away end at Deepdale. I lost count of the times I saw workmen around the ground jet washing, touching up the surfaces with fresh paint etc.

Was it 2010 when we played them in a youth cup game at Ewood? Night match, well advertised and from memory a crowd of 10,000 turned up, including a fair few of them. The club actually promoting and cherishing one of England’s top derbies, imagine that.

Years of neglect. From my seat in the Blackburn End I can see layer upon layer of grime across the stands.

Not that it particularly matters this season as we’ll be selling the square route of feck all, especially at those prices. But generally, considering half STs are often bought as Xmas presents, the earlier they are on sale the better, surely? Many folk are buying Christmas gifts well in advance of mid November. Basic sales and marketing common sense.

Schools aren’t going to take kids out of lessons in the middle of term for a youth football match, never mind it being a ‘high risk’ fixture. Come on chaddy, bloody hell.

Ah, maybe the club checked the school INSET day timetables! The kids will be flooding in!

Gibson’s on Northgate was a great sport shop to go into when I was a kid. From memory, you had regular stuff downstairs, but racks of specialist equipment like cricket whites, pads etc upstairs.

They could actually qualify this time even though they propping up their group with San Marino. They get a home play-off, probably against Bulgaria, just because they won a couple of glorified friendlies (Nations League) last year.

The proliferation of the former USSR and Yugoslavia countries coupled with the super-minnows, qualification is largely now a procession for the top sides. No jeopardy at all, like there used to be, when it would often go to the last game, think of Terry Butcher et al.

‘Middle of the road’, call it what you want. But a club with our playing budget, infrastructure and Cat 1 Academy shouldn’t be flirting with a second relegation to the third division since 2016.

Piece on Preston in today’s Times. Their starting 11 on Saturday cost less than £1.5million, their playing budget is in the bottom 5 of the league. Shows what is possible, they are actual underdogs, ‘little old *enter club here*’ fits them, not a club like us that is pissing counting millions up the wall for ever diminishing returns.

The manager has been a useful buffer thus far at these meetings. Nice fella, real football man who’s tales can disarm potential tough questioning. However, we’ve always been in decent form when they’ve come around before, bottom 3 and it’s a different issue...

Won’t happen here because Waggott’s data from the Rochdale game two years ago will show a couple of thousand extra walk ons, so he’ll be looking to milk those with Cat A prices. The club has given up on any strategic thinking.

A decade ago, the game is constantly evolving, especially in the Championship. He just hasn’t.

Obviously aren’t going to be big sellers this year, but even in a season like this I believe they usually sell 500 or so. Not to be sniffed at.
