  1. Top post tashor - couldn't agree more.
  2. He'd be a terrific short-term signing. Any sort of creativity at the moment will be most welcome. If we do get him I wonder if we'll change our system. Djorkaeff operates best behind the front one/two in the hole. It could mean we switch to 3-5-2 or 4-4-1-1. Or maybe the diamond formation we used successfully at the back-end of last season with Djorkaeff instead of Tugay. I think I've confused myself now.
  3. The reason I'm so negative is that we lost another game that we controlled for large periods. We keep doing this. And I suspect that if I was a neutral I'd have switched off / left my seat long before the end as it was an awful game of football played by, on tonight's evidence, two very bad teams.
  4. Tcj certainly is and you change your tune about the team and the manager every couple of weeks. If tonight was a one off I could happily put it down to bad luck, no rub of the green, dodgy ref etc. But it isn't a one off at all. We've been playing like we did tonight for a year or so now and we keep finding ourselves on the receiving end of scorelines like tonights. It isn't a coincidence - we really aren't very good.
  5. Just a typical Rovers performance. We were marginally the better of two very bad teams but some shocking defending gifts them a goal and we lack the quality or creativity to get one back. Where have we seen that before? Yes, we were unlucky with the penalty, yes we could have had a bit more luck in front of goal, yes we had lots of possession and controlled the game for large periods, but these things mask the fact that we are a poor team who will be battling at the wrong end of the league for a good while yet. I thought Gray, Neill and Ferguson were terrible tonight. Flitcroft did more bad things than good, Emerton flattered to deceive, Stead showed some good moments but more poor ones. I thought Jansen did ok and there were signs that he might be improving. Dickov was probably our man of the match - yet he wasn't particularly good. There's nothing wrong with our attitude or committment. We just don't have enough quality to beat teams. Hopefully Hughes and his staff can at least organise us enough to stop losing games like this, and then in January we add some much needed class to the squad. Every point between now and January will be extremely welcome because I don't see us getting many.
  6. That rings a bell.
  7. It is indeed. Not convinced its worth anywhere near £30million. The massive sports complex at work only cost £12million and that involved around £2million to shift some great crested newt type creatures. Im not too sure Brockhall is owed by Rovers at all. Of course the training ground and the academy will be, but the whole of Brockhall is owned by one man, whos name escapes me right now, not Rovers. I thought Jack Walker and the Rovers bought the land for the academy and the training ground off the fella your thinking of Clare (his name escapes me as well). I'm pretty sure the club own the land they train on.

  9. Thats a bit over the top. It's a mile over the top. Al, just because you have a certain opinion it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you. Stop taking it so sodding personally.
  10. A useful link for anyone wanting to stay overnight in Norwich: Hotels near Carrow Road This hotel in particular does special rates for away supporters: Norwich Sport Village Hotel

  13. Manchester Blue and myself are planning on staying for at least one night (probably Saturday night). Haven't looked into hotels yet though.
  14. Then they would be as equally ill-informed as you are. Did you go to Newcastle? Or Liverpool last year? Or Man U? All places with at least double our home crowds and all silent as a mouse, even when their team was soundly thrashing us. Our fans are no better or worse than anyone else's. Why are we always trying to put ourselves down?
  15. Nice post Bazza. My dad's always banging on about that Charlton game. Can't wait for Grizfoot's match preview.
  16. No idea what you're on about. i suspect you haven't either. Been on the red again?
  17. Not quite sure of the point you're making. I'm certainly not slagging Hughes off. I'm simply saying that he's got a lot of work to do to turn this team around.
  18. Most predictable post of the evening. You take no pleasure in it - ha! You couldn't bloody wait to post that. For what it's worth, I never had any objection with Souness's team selections for the cup competitions. I did, however, have a massive objection to the teams' attitude that I think stemmed from Souness's apparent attitude to most of the cup games - especially last season. Tonight Hughes took the opportunity to look at the rest of his squad, a perfectly understandable thing to do in the current circumstances. They should still have been good enough to beat Bournemouth. Hopefully he's learnt a few things and we'll be able to stay up this season, because it's going to be tight I suspect.
  19. Just watched the highlights on Granada and our defending was abysmal for all three goals. For Bournemouth's first both Amoruso and Nissa just waved a leg lazily at the ball before it got through to their striker. For the second Gresko was hopelessly out-muscled by their player. And for the third no-one was marking anyone - this with less than five minutes to go when we're a goal up. Hughes has got lots of work to do this season.
  20. Both clubs have been going through a bit of a slump after previous good times (Preston, under Moyes, in the play-off final - Burnley just missing out on the play-offs).
  21. The problem with Newton though Jim was that he was primarily a right-back wasn't he? As such, he's up against Bob Crompton who I'd say has more of a right than anyone to get into Rovers best ever team. Are you saying that Newton was a better LEFT BACK than any of the others mentioned? I'd be surprised if he was.
  22. The Captain sums up my feelings perfectly. I rated Le Saux very, very highly - he's easily the best left back I've ever seen, but the other people's views about Eckersley have swayed me towards voting for him. I'd stick Le Saux on the bench though.
  23. Poor results, poor performances, sales of popular players, cost, too much football on TV - all of these things are reasons why our gates have fallen recently. They've also been brought up time and time again but some people just don't want to listen. Until the team starts playing better and getting results then the downward trend will continue. It's the same at any club in the world - if the team is playing well then more people want to watch, if it's playing badly then more stay at home.
  24. Real brains trust in action there then!
