Bit of a stretch to call Hyam "a very good signing" - we paid a substantial fee for him, he had a good start to last season but I thought he was fairly poor in the second half of last season when the team as a whole tanked and this season he seems to be getting worse and worse and turning into something of a defensive liability.

Does your seat face the pitch Rev? This post is bizarre.

He won fans player of the year and players player of the year, was called up to the Scotland squad and was our most consistent performer last season.

    He's been an excellent buy.

No he did neither he just explained that Szmodics wasn't one GB wanted and that Hyam and Brittain had already been put on the wanted list and enquired about by the previous regime.

Which was mentioned anyway at the time both were signed and we only got them once Barnsley went down and Coventry suddenly came back to Rovers offering him at less than they'd previously valued him at.

    Long term targets they were.

    Thanks for that tomphil.

We are a basket case of a club, so anything is possible, but are we believing the new regime are buying the old regimes targets? I’m not convinced, but its only my opinion.

Either way 2 very good signings.

Re - Szmodics, I think you need to scroll back a bit on this thread.

I had heard previously that Broughton had little to do with his arrival.

I understand the situation with the finances full well, thank you, and we all know that Venkys are the root cause of all the problems.

When you’re skint, it’s even more important to have an experienced, skilled operator in a key, strategic role.

As for the match, I posted yesterday that I enjoyed it and glad I made the effort.

I’m only answering your post marton, it’s how this messageboard stuff works…..

As for Broughton on Sammie, I’ve not read the comments you refer to, but don’t tell me, Waggott is taking some of the credit and hammering Gregg in the process? 😂

I think Broughton has been appointed to a position that is beyond his skill set.

Yes, we are skint, which doesn’t help, but that’s all the more reason to appoint someone who has more experience at senior level.

Broughton signed Sammie Szmodics, who given the circumstances the club now finds itself in, is probably the best pound for pound player we've had in over a decade. He also signed Dominic Hyam who is a very good player too. What you have to understand is all our targets were thrown in the bin in the summer when Venkys turned off the tap, yes he'll have had a plan B and Plan C, but you're shopping in the bargain basement at that stage and its a lottery.

On the game yesterday, what's not to like?

Sammie getting a hattrick, some great football from Rovers at times and a much deserved home win. As Matty said a few pages back, if you don't enjoy that yesterday why bother.....

Batth has had 9 appearances in a miss firing Norwich defence so we got lucky with that one.

They've conceded less goals than us but that isn't really the point.

As 47er says we need experience in this squad, he would have brought that, but our owners know better and continue to meddle in 1st team affairs.

But surely its experience we are lacking? JDT has referred to that himself. More L Plates are not the answer.

I don't disagree, JDT tried to bring in the experienced Danny Batth on a free from Sunderland in the summer, but the owners refused because of his age, he went to Norwich instead.

With Venkys extensive footballing knowledge it seems that rule extends to loan signings too, thankfully we are in good hands, what wonderful owners we have 🙄

I always look forward to the FA cup. Hoping we see a win and good overall team performance.

Bought my and missus tickets yesterday.

When push comes to shove its all about supporting Blackburn Rovers the football team, not spending hour after hour sat in an armchair on the internet slagging of people in suits many have never met (I'm guilty too).

As Ossy says above, enjoy the game, after all this is what its all about isn't it?

  8. I've calmed down a bit since yesterday on the Travis departure, now we have a few more of the facts.

Its seems like JDT has sanctioned the move unlike the Buckley debacle and Travis wants out to play regular football and nothing wrong with that.

Broughton has a very good record spotting players in my opinion, lets hope the 2 new lads are as good and help maintain our Championship status.

The big part of the reason we bounced back from league one last time was the experience of Mulgrew, Graham, Smallwood, Downing, Conway, Bennett plus buying the leagues best player in Dack.

If we were to go down in the next two years I’d worry more about doing a double drop than bouncing back.

    You forgot about Mowbray?

The series about the scandal of the postmasters and postmistresses with the always excellent Toby Jones is worth watching. “ Mr Bates versus the Post Office “ on ITV at 9.00 pm.

Watched 3 episodes so far and I’m sat here fuming. What a bunch of arseholes, ruined lives and couldn’t bloody care less.
