But then in the interests of fairness, do you need to keep telling us what you think the budget will be?
I don't tho.

It's the EFL and its clubs who wanted a more lucrative TV deal. All Sky has done is offer the EFL what they want. If it wasn't Sky it would have another TV company.
It's what Rovers and EFL clubs are going have to get more supporters in ground and to appeal to non regular ST holders and match day people.

The TV deal is a sickener for all clubs. Sky will put absolutely no thought towards the fans, moving more games here there and everywhere. It will affect crowds up and down the country, showing furthermore that when Sky said during Covid that football is nothing without fans, it was a blatant lie from their side.
Throw in the disconnect currently between the fans and the club and the shoddy way its being run with owners as bad as youll find in the EFL, and budget cuts galore. With a poor team under an unpopular manager and a pitiful home record this season, season ticket sales will dive. The only way to keep them respectable is a significant drop in price. I expect at best a freeze.
Surely it's EFL and the clubs who wanted a better and more money from the TV deal are the ones to blame not Sky?
Did you think TV rights were going to sold for more money with more games being on TV?
Down to Rovers to come up with a proper proposal for ST and match day prices that attracts more fans to the stadium? Bolton have done with sensible prices

Each to their own but I think he would want to play regular first team football compare to Bench warmer at Everton

I think I’d go:
Pears (I’d rather not have to though!)
JRC. Carter. O Riordan Chrisene
Tronstad. Buckley
Markanday Sammie. Dolan
Gallagher
Why Markanday tho? Offers very little for me

I think Davul was referring to a recurring transfer rumour over 3 or 4 summers where we were linked with Luca Toni back during the PL days, just a bit of light humour. Don't think he was making a personal remark.
I never wrote Toni in my post tho. Looks like @J*Bor one of the mods changed it

Should be spending £10m but we won't get anywhere near that level of expenditure.
If you think we are spending that much, you really need to revaluate your expectations.
Let's wait and see till the summer. If you think.fine but do we need to saying it. No

The most depressing bit for me is that we will likely have a few quid to play with, but who is JE realistically going to attract?
JDT was a legendary international-class player and we clearly knew what he wanted - we just couldn't afford them (or sabotaged the deals).
It would be the most Rovers thing ever if we spent £10m-£15m this summer and wasted it on a load of dross.
He signed some quality players at Birmingham like Olly Burke, Dion Sanderson, Jay Stansfields from Fulham
We should be spending £10m this summer with 1st choice keeper, striker and pacey winger being priority for me

But no football played. Pickford will always be first choice
Playing regular first team football at his age is what he will want surely

Presumably that will be a no brainer for a number of other clubs as well ? Rumours on the Rotherham fans website of him going to Everton as the back up to Pickford.
Down to Rovers to beat them to the sign him.
Why would he go to Everton as s back up to England number 1 Pickford? Pointless move for me.
-
My first choice to sign as new number 1 keeper would be Viktor Johansson at Rotherham. Has a clause in his contract of £1m this summer and for me it is no brainer not to go and sign the player.

one thing that Elliott Jackson mentions in his weekly podcast Arte Le Labore, is he doesn't think Eustace rates his attacking options beyond the main 4 in Hedges, Dolan, Szmodics and Gallagher(Maybe Sigurdsson but with him being injured we don't know) and that why he changes formation when one of those isn't available. I think it was interesting point made and one that @arbitro has made also that our best performance apart from Leeds away and Stoke at home have been 4-2-3-1 formation like Ipswich and Southampton at home, Sunderland and Boro away.
He has to go 4-2-3-1 formation on Saturday.

Rovers have to lower the prices this coming season with the new TV deal coming which the EFL wanted more money from TV revenue. Games will be moved to a number of different kick offs from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Rovers should charged £199 for Riverside, £249 for BBE and lower JW, £280 for JW upper wing and £330 for JW upper centre
I think Rovers also need to look at match day prices policy where you need to make attractive for walk on fans to attend also. £10 for midweek games, £15 to £20 for weekend games
I hope Rovers actually serious think about this cos some people won't be attend to every game due to work or family commitments was kick offs changing.

agreed. I think 4-2-3-1 formation is our best formation with 5-2-3 formation being our second formation

A really entertaining match tonight at Ewood as the under 21's came back from two goals to draw and for long periods in the second half looked like we were going to win. Sheron played three centre backs with in Whitehall, Gamble and Batty but it was the wing backs who really excelled. Cirino and Duru were great examples of how to play that position and the forward runs they consistently made were a real strong point for us tonight. I have said for a few months now that Duru has been excellent for six months and in my view he should at the very least be in the first team match day squad.
Was Eustace there watching the game?

Tonight everyone had to go to the ticket office, show your season card and get given a paper ticket. In light of the reasons for the farcical Digital Day and the EFL Environmental Award how does that make any sense. Another day in the crazy world of Blackburn Rovers.
100% agree

On that last point- I sat in the JW stand for the game against Preston, early on in the season. We were slightly closer to the PNE fans, and they drowned out the home fans I couldn’t hear the Blackburn End, where my season ticket is.
It needs looking at. We simply roll over for any club willing to fill the Darwen End, and let them turn it into a home game, because they’ve fans happy to pay £X. It’s nothing shorting embarrassing if truth be told.
Ewood should be a fortress and because of that, the Darwen End upstairs only should be the only part being used to house away fans.I understand your point but surely that is down to the home support to be more vocal but the club should be focusing on filling the home sections by having sensible and cheaper ST and match day prices policies. Have a singing area for fans like NO1 and NO5 area
I wouldn't put the away fans in Darwen end upper tier.
2 hours ago, JHRover said:Playing at home with 7000+ away fans behind one goal filling 25% of the stadium isn't normal. That's the point. Nobody else does it. It's not just a run of the mill situation that players are used to dealing with every week.
So it's likely when we do it is going to have some sort of effect.
We've a young, weak and inexperienced group. Sheffield Wednesday are at the opposite end of that scale. I'd wager the younger ones would struggle more than the experienced ones in such circumstances.
Like I said previously, if Pears can't cope with having full stand of away fans being him then how did he cope against Leeds away or Newcastle at home in the cup.
Young and inexperience group? really?
Pears 25, Hyam 28, Wharton 26, Carter 24, Brittain 26, JRC 24 Tronstad 28, Pickering 25, Dolan 22, Szmodics 28 Gallagher 28
That is hardly a young or inexperience group is it. Younger player there is Dolan who has 161 apps for us.

Dismissing any thoughts of reinvesting as fantasy land stuff. We can get worse, simply because of the cuts. Telalovic, Ennis and Hirst have all been worse in the last 2 years. Thats the standard we are working with.
I have always said that Gallagher simply is not very good at anticipating chances. Thats the main reason why his goal tally is never going to be near the top of the league, he doesnt have that instinct and never will be. Offers other things but is simply not a natural goalscorer.
That being said, under Eustace he like every other attacker is hindered more than ever. There is absolutely no sign of an attacking game plan. He often spends much of the game wide and the tactic of centre backs whacking it aimlessly in the channels just has him running after the ball with the defender naturally ahead of him. He wins throw ins and the odd corner which is all he can really do in that situation but its just not going to lead to him doing anything constructive.
yet Ipswich wanted Gallagher in January and they already Hirst who proved his worth to them in the first half of the season. Hirst just didn't work out here sadly but he has been a big role in Ipswich success since joining them

He probably will but he wasn't signed to play for the under 21's. We signed three centre halves in January and between them they probably haven't reached double figures in first team appearances.
Yes we did, but JDT wanted more centre backs so he could go 3 at the back.
I want to see more O'Riordan and I thought he would have been on the bench ahead of the Liverpool loanee.

Obviously, we have barely seen him in a Blue and white shirt yet but he has certainly picked him as one for the future.
Just after he signed here, Gary Bowyer was on Radio Lancs singing O'Riordan praises and said we got a good player here.

I guess the argument is less that the replacement would be ineffective, but more that he wouldn't have been replaced at all.
I don't know what happened to Harry Leonard, but he'd have got a couple in the last month I'd have thought.
Leonard is injured

It’s completely different and you know it.
We set up to defend against Leeds, rode our luck and came away with an excellent win. But to try and do the same against 2nd bottom of the league playing at home with 7k+ fans backing them is just ridiculous.
Compound that with our “senior” players and captain making repeated & basic mistakes yet still being an automatic pick in the first team, it’s football suicide.
Just excuses from yourself in my opinion. No different for me

1 hour ago, JHRover said:Its a completely different scenario Chaddy. You can't simply say that because we won an away game that there is no issue in giving away teams vast allocations at Ewood.
You go away to Arsenal, Liverpool, United in the Cup and play infront of 60-70,000 you expect your team to rise to the occasion.
It is completely different to hand over 1/4 of your stadium to the away team, who are in a must-win situation, and have them making all the noise. The Ewood atmosphere is poor at the best of times.
There's an age old concept in football of 'home advantage'. It is why teams since Victorian times have preferred playing on their own ground rather than going away. It is partly, though not wholly, because they prefer being surrounded by their own fans backing them whereas the away team is having to play with a small number of their fans.
Yesterday home advantage went out of the window from where I was sat. It was a decent atmosphere yes, but the Wednesday fans made a huge amount of noise and I am sure that the Pears calamity show in the second half was at least partly brought about by jitters from having their fans right behind him.
Control the controllables. We can't control what goes on at Leeds or Leicester, but we can control what goes on at Ewood and make sure in must not lose games we aren't giving the opposition any advantage whatsoever.
just excuses after excuses. There were 7k Sheff Wed fans. That it. How did they ever make it professional if they can't play in front one full stand of away fans. FFS

Quick question Chaddy - at 3-1 down, would you have sacrificed a defender for a more attacking player or were you happy with our attacking play and continued with 5 in defence? And if so, would you have waited until an injury in the 75th minute to make said change?
as I said yesterday in the match thread, I felt Eustace was too slow with making his changes and his triple subs far too late.
When we went behind at 2-1 I said to the person I go with I would have made a triple sub changed which would have been Chrisene, Buckley and Moran for Pickering, Tronstad and Wharton. and go 4-2-3-1

The EFL and clubs wanted more money from TV rights. If it wasn't Sky Sports it would be Dazn or Premier Sports. Clubs wanted more money cos they thought their TV rights was worth more the current TV deal.
Any TV Company would more games to TV for more money. Fairly simple and understandable point of view.
That's why Clubs are/should lower their ST and match day prices starting with this season. I have posted my thoughts what ST and match day prices. What do you think of those ideas?
