  1. The whole absurdity of football contracts is shown in the cases of Pedersen, Savage and Ferguson. The Bolton lad is being sold by his club against his wishes and is powerless to prevent it even though he signed a contract recently. Savage wants to leave for another job and his employers are telling him he cant because he`s under contract which he signed recently and Ferguson while still under contract is being touted back to Rangers. How will the manager and board get over this tricky hurdle? I really want Fergie to stay but I expect he wants a bigger stage. Playing in front of 7000 against Cardiff as opposed to 45000 at Ibrox isnt much of a choice, is it?
  2. All this talk of Savage is in my opinion conveniently masking the fact that I dont believe Ferguson will be with us come February and that Savage is his replacement. Fergie is showing his huge talent at the moment and it was no surprise that his best game was against Newcastle where Souey is eager to take him.
  3. Interesting statistic from Saturday. Which striker has scored most goals in the premiership away from home in 2004? Shearer has 1 Henry has 4 Van Nistlerooy has 7 Rooney has 6 ..........the winner is.... Dickov has 8!! 8 out of 10 he has scored have been away from home. Not too bad for someone taking a bit of stick after our tremendous performance. Perhaps I owe Mr Hughes an apology.
  4. ..but not with us, blue phil. He`ll be off in January to a team that has a future. Emerton will have to wait until the end of the season.
  5. greggyk , I have to agree with Tony Parkes on the assessment of the club now being low-key. The events of Monday confirmed that. Why should an ambitious manager come to us now? For Hughes read Kidd and I dont think he will want to miss out on the game against England. Dowie would be another huge gamble with limited experience in the prem and the last time I looked they were bottom of the league anyway! Gregory or Jewell would be a more realistic target for the board.
  6. Cant really say that any manager will bring back the glory days. September 6th 2004 will go down in the history of this once famous club as the day that Blackburn Rovers ceased to be a top flight team. Souness has the talent to take Newcatle ever upwards. What a pity our provincial and parochial board were persuaded by rantings from a minority of fans to accept Graeme`s decision to leave . He will be missed by many. To have a manager of a premiership side go to another premiership club and state that we have no challenge to offer him is a bitter pill to swallow. Our level is clear. Our Town status has at last caught up with us. We had better get used to the taste of Coca-Cola.
  7. Could be Rover`s first part-time manager with him doing the Wales job as well.
  8. Feeling very depressed tonight . I feel right now that we are seeing the beginning of a serious decline and that our days as a top club may soon come to an end. The players are bound to be shocked especially young Boothroyd and may start to question the attitude of the club and the direction we are going in. Please JW get the next appointment right otherwise the future doesnt bear thinking about. Many thanks to Souness for his efforts for us and not every fan thought you were poor, Graeme. It will be interesting to follow the Geordies progress with him in charge.
  9. I blame souey. Souness OUT. We havent got 1 point after 5 games now- scandalous!
  10. Scotty, In reply to your question. I have never believed that sacking a manager is the answer in football. I am confident that Souey and John Williams will know themselves when the time is right for a mutual parting if indeed it should come to it. Roy Hodgson was sacked in september and we still went down. He remains adamant that given time he would have pulled things round. Brian Kidd was a coach first and foremost and didnt like the job of manager. Knowledge is power and so many things happen at a club that we are not privy to. JW will see the playing staff and note their reactions as well but so far to my knowledge there arent any dressing room revolts that have come to light. I am sure that if he reads these messages he will get an interesting mix but in a professional, multi-million pound business he cannot be influenced by the fans reactions too much. I still believe that we have a good, experienced manager and a top ten side.
  11. I`m sure that the message boards of Man City , Palace, Aston Villa , Newcastle are awash with complaining fans who are demanding sackings for poor tactics, attitude, results etc. if you have watched Rovers for any length of time you get used to the highs and lows and learn to take it in your stride. Was it only last season that we were in the UEFA Cup? Beat wolves 5-1? Held chelsea 2-2? A downward spiral followed by a glorious finish? We`ve 1 point ? So what? Tables are misleading at this time of year. We`ve bought an exciting young talent but I`m afraid that the fans general unhappiness will not help him to fulfil himself. We do have other talent at the club and Souey will get it right. A guy who has managed Liverpool, Rangers, Benfica and Galatasary must have something about him and his TV work only adds to an impressive CV. I do not enjoy seeing my team lose but neither do I like to see and read some of the comments about the manager and the players that I have seen in the last 2 weeks. Surely as supporters we should support the club when things are not going well. Changes have been made since last season in both personnel and tactics and management. It needs time to bed in. We have not been given the easiet of starts but I for one remain confident.
  12. Is this the new soundbite- "losing the dressing room" . How can that conclusion be reached from only 2 games in? The team have not played badly in either game and are unlucky to have only 1 point. The performances in both games have improved as the game has developed which to me is a positive rather than a negative. Do we really want a situation like southampton who have had 6 managers in 6 seasons? You cannot base opinions on a match to match basis otherwise you will end up tearing your hair out- sure we have 3 very tough games coming up but we have to hold our nerve. We are never going to win the league or probably finish in the top three but if we maintain our prem status then that will be a significant achievement for the country`s most successful town team club.
  13. Slater, I leave spin to ther cricketers and Chris what is an "ostridge?" The prem season is still to formulate itself. Give it time. It is part of being a football fan to be optimistic. There are 8 months to go!!
  14. I must be one of the few fans that were quite pleased with the overall performances in both games. What is so wrong with changing style and tactics at halftime? Why is it an admission that the manager got it wrong? Yesterday for example the onus was on Saints to dictate the play and we react to it. Being a goal down we revert to another tactic and dominate the game as every commentator has said- you cannot legislate for a monumental error, described by Chris Kamara this morning as the "worst decision he had ever seen in a game". We have been the better side in both games and unluckily have only 1 point. Dickov has been tremendous as has Ferguson. We do have good players and once the initial rustiness has worn off then we wil do well . I have confidence in the manager - a great player himself - who has a tendency to infuriate but has the best interests of the club at heart and has demonstrated on more than one occasion in the recent past that he can produce the goods for us.
  15. Just heard Dinnis`s comments. He felt Souey was guilty of putting square pegs in round holes last week and doubted that Wenger or Fergie would do it. He couldnt understand why Gresko was preferred to Flitty or Tugay but did acknowledge that the home record was appalling last year so something had to be done. He described the first half as shameful but felt that the side that finished the game should start tomorrow. Souey said that thommo isn`t quite right yet for a return but it will be soon.Ferguson was also interviewed and said that the training so far has concentrated on the defensive side so that the poor home form will not be repeated. Dinnis does not seem to have too much time for our Graeme as a coach so his comments have to be taken in context. Souey himself was very prickly when asked about last week and commented on the views of amateurs not really knowing the game and questioning his tactics. All in all a very interesting programme.
  16. I know its short notice but richard dinnis at 7 will be talking about Souey`s selection process on Radio Lancs. Will summarise for those not able to listen.
  17. But come 3pm on Saturday we could be TOP of the League if we beat saints! If people are going to suggest that we will be bottom then I can say that we`ll be TOP. Only one game in and so much negativity.
  18. Are you being serious, 1864? His integrity and private life have everything to do with his job. He is an ambassador for the FA and has to act accordingly. I work in the field of education. I cannot do as I please as it will affect my job. In most organisations these days relationships between employees are expressly forbidden. How can a Senior figure within a company have an affair with a secretary and not expect censure if not the sack.
  19. Yet again we have another example of a public figure who is well paid for his skills and knowledge being less than honest in his private life. With wealth comes responsibility and Sven has demonstrated time and again that he is incapable of being honest , honourable or humble. It is not a case of an unmarried man having sex with an unmarried woman; he denied it to save his own skin and having been rumbled demands £14m of his contract to be paid up. How can such a man demand discipline from his players when he himself is so sadly lacking? How can he criticise their lifestyles when his is so deceitful? It is time to look elsewhere with Peter Taylor as my choice as he has brought most of the team through from the U-21`s.
  20. Doesn`t anyone think that Souey and JW will have lined someone else up to take Cole`s place? Radzinski was a target last year and has fallen out with Everton or some other big player. This is going to be an interesting few days.
  21. Has cole actually gone ? There are a lot of supporters on here who know what is happening at ewood. Isnt he in germany with the team? lets just wait what unfolds.
  22. It was interesting to read what Matteo was saying about his proposed move which was that he wanted to be reunited with his old manager Souey. It has been a forum sport to bash Graeme with tales of player unrest because of his style of management and here we have a player who wants to play for him again. My feeling since souness arrived is that we have got at the helm a man who is well respected in the game and his knowledge and experience are second to none. He has attracted a lot of talent to our club most of which has come off and a minority hasnt but perhaps the overriding conclusion to be drawn in my view is that we are better off with him as manager than without.
  23. i think there is too much emphasis on the numbers of tickets sold etc. Just because someone does not renew their ticket does not mean that they will not go to the matches. £370 is still a lot of money to fork out at one go. Supporters have every right to be selective in the games they watch. It is up to the club to provide entertainment on the pitch and then people will come. Many fans like to pay on the day as they cannot predict with any certainty that they will be able to go each week.
  24. Listened to JW on Radio Lancs tonight and he said that contact had been made last season with him and a bid was hinted at but nothing came of it. Then news reached the club that he was available and JW did the rest. Souey is thrilled with the move. However he also said that the deal for Pedersen was now off as the left side problem had been tackled. The deal for Matteo, although he was reluctant to talk about him, was still possible but there are complications. Hinted again that there would have to be players leaving before other signings were made.
