  1. Well done Philip. Hearts, Peterhead and Brechin.
  2. Well done Stu. spot on. Here`s another for you. Can you name 3 Scottish clubs named after body parts?
  3. You have to come up with a goalkeeper, 4 defenders,4 midfielders and 2 strikers currently playing in the premiership whose First name and Second name begin with the same letter. For the bright ones, you can also have a goalkeeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder and 2 strikers on the bench who also have the same letters..Might help to get through the games today with no Rovers fix.
  4. Must say I enjoyed the coverage Rovers got tonight from Eurosport. A good performance considering Pedersen, Bentley, Nonda and Benni were off form. My MOM was Savage closely followed by Ooijer and Gray.An historic night in Rovers history; the first time we have got to the knockout stages of a European competition. Great to see and hear the fans out there.
  5. As a curtain raiser on Eurosport they are showing the highlights of the Basle game at 6-15pm
  6. Philip, I wish you had chosen a different title! I run a Prediction League with 12 other Rovers fans and we meet every July for the "awards"evening. We have various categories, one of which is First managerial casualty of the season.I have awarded 10 points to 8 people for their answer of O`leary; am I right or wrong??
  7. I think alot of you are being harsh on your side. You gave us a much better game than most sides have this season. You didn't throw in the towel and kept battling away and forced us to really earn the three points. Thanks for the comment. I was beginning to think I had been to a different game. I know it`s disappointing to lose 4 games but the 2 home peformances, in that sequence, have not been as catastrophic as people are pointing out. I think Rovers played with a lot of spirit and skill last night. Tugay was the best player on the pitch, Friedel, Ooijer and Emerton were impressive. They played a terrific team at the top of their game and we matched them for an hour and were never out of the game. The reaction from Ferguson jumping up and down just showed how relieved they were when the goal went in.We are bound to miss the likes of Reid and Savage in midfield and I thought we battled hard there yesterday. How many fans thought we would get hammered before the match. To keep them to 1-0 deserves some credit. I know Rooney missed 2 easy chances but so did we with Zurab and Benni at the end.Pedersen has come in for some stick but I thought he showed much more endeavour and even did a sliding tackle! His set pieces caused them problems and was much more involved. If Hughesy thinks we need new recruits then I`m sure the board will back him.
  8. veteran Rovers watchers could have written the script against West Ham. Better second half but our injury list is worrying.
  9. A disappointing game overall with West Ham so low on confidence but we are playing with little tempo. Cant understand Gray for Mcevely. Peter is the only highspot and Ooijer in defence is playing OK.1-1 at full time hopefully.
  10. Wonderful result and Blackburn Rovers first win in Europe!! An historic night. Awful coverage though with Woy Hodgson talking to himself and not one shot of the Rovers fans in the whole game.Hughes has done a great job.I am so proud to be a rover tonight.
  11. As a teacher , I hope that people remember it is halfterm this weekend. So, many fans will be away on holiday( myself included). I am unhappy at missing the game but will be watching the italian teletext for the result. For that reason I cannot see there being a sellout on Sunday but it should be around 24000. But I will be back for the Chelsea game.
  12. With all the chat on Krakow and Rotterdam, is it me or have I missed any posta from Basle or Nancy fans? Are we extending a warm Lancashire welcome and telling them what to do in our town prior to the match?
  13. I remember reading an article just after Neill signed and his main thrust was that financially he was set up for life. He lives in a lovely house overlooking Turton Golf course and he is enjoying the fortune that comes with being a prem footballer.Perhaps now he is after the fame that comes from a big club. I would love him to stay as I think he is a fantastic assett in any side, power, pace and passion.I do hope Hughesy keeps on at him and with a good side side on the pitch he might be tempted to stay.
  14. Watch Petric carefully as he will be at Ewood soon playing for Basle. Seems a real handful.
  15. Kuyt was injured in Saturday`s match and is rated doubtful . However, I cant see Neill or Emerton being fit to play if they are travelling back from Oz on Thursday to play a Saturday game. Therefore, Rovers to lose 3-1 with a Savage freekick the only highspot.
  16. Thanks Unsall for the date and the second leg score.I also think we have played Nancy in America in a pre-season match and I`m sure we beat them again. The UEFA match at Ewood on the 13th of December is a Wednesday night so I presume the Reading away game will be still be played on the Saturday.
  17. I cant make the game but if you are staying in Amsterdam then you have to stay at the Maes B&B.Check out the website.
  18. I watched Rovers beat Nancy at Ewood in the 60`s? in a cup competition (something like the Friendship cup) and I believe that was the first European encounter for the Rovers;it will be interesting to see them again.
  19. I do part-time work at a school in Wigan and it was interesting to hear the comments of a couple of kids who went yesterday supporting Wigan. They said how great the atmosphere was and "the best part was the drum. Is it like that every week?" Rovers also battered them the whole game and they enjoyed their viewing area in the Darwen End.I asked them which Rovers players impressed.McCarthy and Bentley came the reply. All in all they had a great day out.
  20. With the top 3 from each group going through to join the 8 3rd-placed Champions League teams in the last 32 suggests that we can have a very interesting season.
  21. Well done to the 2 Rovers callers last night on Talkport`s UEFA phone-in.The presenters were calling for Rovers fans to tell the nation about the game.Plenty of e-mails saying that Rovers never get a mention but the presenters were saying that all night they had been praising the quality of Rovers play.On a personal note I dont think a Rovers team has played as well as that for a very long time and the game will live long in the memory of the crowd who saw it.
  22. A couple pf posts mentioned the worry over the crowd of 18,400 for a City game.I` ve been delving into the archives and came up with these figures for various fixtures in September over the years. Last year the match with Newcastle attracted 21,000 where about 5,000 were Geordies. In 2004, 21,000 watched the game against Portsmouth who brought about 1,000; interestingly in 2003 after losing 3-1 in UEFA Cup 22,000 watched the match against Fulham.I know that stats can prove any point but the evidence does suggest that we have "lost" some 5-6000 fans. However, further back shows that in 1996 27,000 watched Rovers draw with Everton where Donis scored a great goal.In 1986, the score was Rovers 0 v. 2 Palace in front of 5,921!! which the paper referred to as an encouraging gate. The crowd yesterday was very low for a derby game and even City fans didnt seem up for it as they normally do but an average of less than 20,000 seems on the cards this season.
  23. If Karl Marx were alive he would be telling us that the premiership has within it "the seeds of its own destruction"! Next year each club will get £30m each from the New Deal. How much of that will gp towards subsidising entry prices? Not much I expect. It could cost £40 a ticket next season which would be a disaster seeing that you can watch the match for 2 pints in the local. The game has to address some serious issues and I might suggest that ticketing is a high priority.I do not believe for one minute that we have "lost" thousands of fans;they cannot afford to watch the game but still have an interest in how the Rovers get on. The club and the Board do a great job such as free entry for the second leg of the Salzburg game but they are competing against an ever increasing wave of multi-millionaire owners who have no love of the game but only profit motives centred now on players rather than clubs.Lets hope we can stay in the prem this season
