Was that because you have been watching The Simpsons or you going to offer something more in the way of justification in your usual erudite manner? -
[Archived] Favourite Rovers Player To Watch?
colin replied to RovertheHill's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I've got to agree with you with Tugay & I've also been watching for a couple of decades. It's simply that you know that when he gets the ball 9 times out of 10 he will trap it, have it under control in a flash, and then pass it. It's just his skill and vision and confidence that I like. I also like the fact that at the age of 36 he can still make an opposition midfielder look a complete fool with a quick shimmy and move. I used to like Jason Wilcox & Stuart Ripley banging in those pin-point crosses for Shearer & Sutton too. -
Good preview Jim, keeping the standard as high as ever. One day someone will create a book of these and it will be a best seller (In WHS in Blackburn.)

Because MES still churns out brilliant records/CDs? Which put just about everyone else in that shade, and Peel's favourite band id good enough forme The Fall He's becoming rubbish live though. -
Don't start Abbey, the whole problem of the road signs for Lancashire has been bugging me at work for years. The road signs are there as a navigational aid, so sticking up a "Bolton" sign works OK. Sticking up a "welcome to Lancashire" sign as you go north through the Mersey Tunnel is a bit of a bugger. As for the postcode on a letter, that's for the Post Office. Burnley addresses have a Blackburn postcode, (yes we have them) Rochdale have an Oldham code. Blah blah blah
-
No they are not. Bolton is in the administrative area of Greater Manchester*, but it is still in the County Of Lancashire, as are Wigan, Tameside, Rochdale, Tameside, Manchester, Salford, Oldham, Sefton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Trafford & a probably a few others few other I can't remember. see here *which is, for most purposes, defunct

This weekend I have been mostly listening to Sparklehorse's "Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain." Rather more mellow than the previous three offerings, and it seems to be slightly diffused with chords & phrases from classic songs such as "Strawberry Fields Forever."...edit just picked up some "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" by The Kinks. Clever stuff. Intregueing stuff indeed! -

Nonda, Roberts, McCarthy. Brown & The Axe don't quite chime with the very pale lilac of the likes of Lilly, MGP, Bentley & Zurab. Do pay attention. -
Well yes, this was a game of two halves (if you put the last five minutes of the first into the second.) The new slim line Emile took his goal well, stabbing in from short range at the nearside post after a slick move down the right wing by Wigan. The rest of the half was fairly bland bar some Laurel & Hardy defending by Rovers on three or four occasions which lead to some serious palpitations around my seat. Our goal was wonderfully worked with Bentley & Jeffers (?) combining with a dummy, a one two with a finish from Bentley from the left corner of the goal area to just beat Kirkland at the far post. Just imagine a typical Thierry Henry goal and you'll have it in a nutshell. For the first thirty minutes of the second half we outplayed them, Tugay was his usual "trap & pass," MGP & Neill and Bert & Bentley played similarly: when one of them went forward the other either supported or took over the defensive role. Our winner was a bit of a nightmare for Kirkland & (I think de Zoowething) there was a long punt which landed equidistant between the two of them just outside the penalty area. Either Kirkland should have rushed out and punted it clear or deZoothing should have hoofed it into row Z in the Blackburn End. But Roberts' foot and Kirkland's foot met the ball at the same time and McCarthy took the ball that squirmed out and had an open goal tap-in. The penalty was fairly obvious as Ooojer brought down Emile when he didn't really need to but Todorov's spot kick was fairly poor. Brown saved, saved Todorov's follow up and the, after a brief scramble, saved a goal-bound header. Well done tht man. "Are you Friedal in disguise?" we all sang. Franny Jeffers had a good game second half at least when he was playing towards us - lots of clever and intelligent running. Crowd was small but at least in the second half was in good voice. And, despite the three points, we've only climbed one place. Hey-ho, looks like the early season helter skelter is calming down.

We brought in Shabani Nonda, who arrived in a Hondah because of all the wongah. We can’t go wrongah. Have I turned into Mark E Smith-ah? (non-Fall fans please ignore this bit). Another good one Mr F. In particular I agree with the Bert comments

Just out of sad statto interest. There was much made of Arsenal playing a team of eleven different nationalities in their recent Champs league game. We nearly matched it tonight with the starting eleven Friedel - USA Neill - Australia Ooijer - Netherlands Kizanishvili- Georgia Emerton - Australia Bentley -England Tugay - Turkey Savage - Wales Gamst - Norway MacCarthy - South Africa Nondo - Congo Bloody Aussies Great game, and an absolute cracker from Bentley, I was lucky to be right behind where it would have landed if the goal wasn't there. -

A possible very simple answer is that both Kish & Ooojer are talking to each other in second (possibly third) languages. Whereas Todd & Nelsen are both using English as a first. A theory that certainly fits in with Occam's Razor (go google) -

[Archived] Anti Virus Software
colin replied to colin's topic in I Can't Believe It's Not Football Archive
Thanks Den, We'll give it a try. -
A couple or years ago our home computer was infected and it caused us no end of trouble to get the thing cleaned up and working again. We then installed MacAfee which seems to have worked fine, until it expired a couple of days ago. So we paid £40 and downloaded their super-dooper version which completely screwed up our access to the internet. Despite hours of faffing and fiddling and talking to MacAfee we simply couldn't access t'net. So we've done a reset to 7 days ago and everything is OK, going to get a refund but we don't now have any virus protection. I've noted that there seems to be a few free download from t'net for anti virus software (AVG for example.) Does anyone have any recommendations on this or any other solution? Grateful for any suggestions. Cheers guys & gals Colin

Neill seems to be a good example of the strange world of "cat & mouse" finances of football economics post-Bosmann. The closer he gets to the end of his contract than the less he is worth to Rovers. The corollary is that he is then worth more to the buying club (Liverpool) who will reward him more in wages. Or screw him when he gets to the end of his contract and no other club shows any interest in him. So, how was the Salzberg game for you?
-
My thoughts exactly on the strange Zen Buddism that effect us. If we had been 2-0 down after 85 minutes and ended up with the same final score there would have been lots of whoophee. As it is: it's annoying, but no need to start tying the noose to the bannisters just yet.

Not forgetting that Salzburg was the setting for the greatest film ever made *ahem* The hills are alive...... No doubt Julie & The Von Trapp Childrens' Choir will be fully loaded and in the home end, making the Austrian version of "Get Into Them" something that Mozart would be proud of. Johannes Chrisostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart was from Salzberg too. Blackburn gave the world of music The Four Pennies. Looks like we'll have to beat them at football to try and gain some sort of bragging rights. Oh JFHC Funny

Well, there's your answers. I very much doubt if any football fan anwhere in the world has posted a question on another team's site and has received such comprehensive and honest replies. brfcs.co.uk is wonderful. I'd just like to add that as much as I admired Iam Wright as a player..........

Well just to keep this up Have a read of Max Anderson's "Digger." (ISBN0-330-49201-2) It's about his obsession with digging for treasure which eventually leads him to a year digging for gold in Western Australia. A cracking read and probably more so for the Aussies on here for a bit of history. -

I've just put my 11 year old genius to bed where she has be listening to "Country Girl" by Primal Scream from "Now That's What I Call Music Volume 46." One of the most recent CDs I bought was "Riot City Blues" by Primal Scream. You've just got to be a Dad to appreciate it................... Pure bliss, if only she would appreciate The Bonzos I would be a happy man. -
Last season's reds & yellows on a particularly colourful site clicky Looks like we are carrying on, nowt like a bit of consistency eh?
