Like 99% of all footballers, the ones we have at the moment will be committed to BRFC until someone offers to pay them more money. No point kidding ourselves, the word 'loyalty' should be reserved for the fanbase. I don't blame the players, most of them are mercenaries - we pay them for their ability as a footballer, they respond in kind by playing for us to the best of their ability - I would never accuse Lenihan of not doing that.... Once they get a better offer, more often that not they take it. Don't forget the players we let go this summer because we didn't want them anymore - it works both ways. People seem to have this detachment from football, forgetting it's a job for these people. If I left my job tomorrow for a better paid one, I wouldn't expect my boss, colleagues and 'stakeholders' to say good riddance to bad rubbish... it's the way of the world. It's an interesting one. There's a temptation to throw him in because of the plaudits he's getting, but I think we need to be so careful with him. Ridiculous comparison I know, but look how Pep handled Foden. He didn't loan him, but he took huge care in ensuring they didn't overload him. Even when pundits and fans alike were going mad for hin to start, he stuck to his guns and protected him until he was ready. Its even more difficult with a defender because they're unlikely to get many minutes off the bench. It's a tough call and a situation that will need to be managed really carefully, but expecting him to come in as a first team regular is a very risky approach.

The idea of blooding youngsters is great, and a model all clubs would love to use. But an over reliance will lead to massive struggles. The majority of these kids won't make an impact in professional football, never mind in the Championship. We've had loads of hopefuls that have ended up dropping down the leagues - Willem Tomlinson springs to mind, playing at Chorley now. Adam Henley made quite a few starts for us, now at Chorley as well. Jason Lowe made 11 starts for England U21s and was captain of our U23s. He's 30 and has played at Salford in League 2 for 3 seasons. Last year everyone was desperate for Butterworth to get a go. He was hopeless 99% of the time. I'm not saying immediately give up on him, but bringing through 4 youngsters on top of our current squad isn't the answer. We've lost 3 senior players, at least 2 or 3 regular loan starters, Brereton will likely go as will Ayala by the sounds of it - so that's 8 lost. Considering we were light on players at the end of last season, in my opinion we are on an absolute knife edge at the moment, and fast running out of time.

Whilst I understand exasperation and terminal disappointment in not only this process, but the club as a whole, I don't think we're yet in the territory of being outraged, perhaps reserve that until the appointment is made. I suspect this anger is probably still the Mowbray mourning process as much as anything, along with at least a vague hint of smug justification towards those that vehemently opposed him, particularly those that constantly said "anybody but him".... Which was ridiculous in itself as we might well discover the hard way. If it is Tomasson, I don't suspect anyone on here knows enough about his managerial career or him as a person to make a judgement or prediction of any real substance. He'd have my support undoubtedly and based on his status within the game, rightly or wrongly I'd be intrigued and probably more excited than if a Mowbray MkII was appointed.

Tell you what would be interesting…. To see the pattern of sales from previous years. Let’s say, in the last 3 years we’ve seen a considerable spike in sales once fixtures are announced, or once the transfer window re-opens. Before then you get the die hards who’d still be there at five to three even if Rovers folded. Everytime I read or hear about Bellamy in podcasts or various autobiographies, the general consensus is that he was absolutely brutal with certain people in dressing rooms. At Rovers it was Pedersen who he singled out, a lot. Wonderful player, one of my favourite to play for Rovers, but I wonder about his tempremant as a number two.

Did you expect him to be? He was largely playing 45mins here and there, picked up another injury etc. How often is it said that players can take months to trust their bodies after a bad injury, never mind two! I hope with a good pre-season behind him we can start to see him influencing us more and more. Before his injury he was one of the best in the division, I'd hope he can still be a great asset.

I might be wrong, particularly in this young side that were inevitably going to have, but I'm not sure Wharton would have enough respect in the dressing room just yet. The captain isn't just the player choosing heads or tails before kick off, or even the most vocal on the pitch. He's the link between the manager and the team, he has to be strong enough mentally and carry enough respect from the manager and the players to fulfill that. Of the top of my head, looking through the squad now, providing he stays fit next season, my captain would be Dack. He's a senior pro, a good pro and has overcome huge obstacles. He's a driving force when he's on the pitch and now he's matured I think would thrive in a senior role.

For what it's worth, IF it is Warne or Ainsworth I wouldn't be overwhelmed with joy, but I wouldn't be horrified. Both have overseen extended, succesful spells at their clubs with zero resources. I don't know Birdy and I don't know if he sits on here judging the decisions of other Rovers fans, ergo acting like a superior being. Fair play to him, he goes to every game. Totally disagree. This idea of blind loyalty is so infutiating for any normal person who purchases a product based on its quality and value for money. Okay, a football club is somewhat different because we are hugely nostalgic about loving the club our entire life, but ultimately if that club you pay to be part of is no longer representing the values you hold dear or doesn't even consider the feeling of complete detachment of its valuable stakeholders, then you can choose to walk away as many thousands already have over the past 11 years. In that time he'll have had to turn around 2 or 3 teams which suggests not just a flash in the pan, but a manager who can consistently re-energise and refresh a squad to bounce back. We're going to have to accept someone... And I am now highly doubtful it will be an exciting or first rate appointment. With Farke and Carvahal now gone, who's your preferred candidate?

His time at Rotherham has certainly been impressive, particularly after a quick look on TransferMarkt seems to suggest he's spent the square root of F. A. Having said all this, he never seems to get mentioned as a candidate for Champ jobs, so maybe I'm missing something

One I wouldn't be totally against. Done brilliantly at Rotherham. Spent NOTHING there yet constantly over achieves. Hasn't managed to keep them in the Champ which is his only blot in an otherwise impressive tenure.

I think you'd have been satisfied (or at least pretend to be) by any single manager that was eventually appointed. Many, many assistant managers would come highly rated by their former bosses. Brian Kidd, Paul Clement... Even Steve fucking Kean was hugely rated by Chris Coleman. Ultimately, there's nothing to suggest Ferguson is a good manager at Championship level... He might be, he might not be. Fact is we've been told for weeks we're seeking experience at this level. If they appoint Ferguson it's an instantaneous dumbing down of aims and expectations. In fact, it would stink of absolute failure and panic. Another risk by owners and their stooges who haven't got a clue. Your premature and over zealous reaction to this makes me think you'd portray this delight even if Mowbray was reappointed. No one could be this delighted with a totally unambitious and risky appointment.

All this nonsense isn't going to convince anyone to renew. Appoint a manager, set realistic pricing structures for season tickets, show a modicum of ambition in the transfer market. So far Rovers' communication this pre-season has been to acknowledge one or two birthdays, tell us the kit release date (amusingly an improvement on previous debacles), make a ridiculous excuse to extend the earlybird offer to mask woeful sales figures, and now these videos.
