v Reading (a) - 20/3/22

Realistically top 6 has gone. Some will look at the table and think we still have a chance, but I think that's delusion. Why? 6 goals all year and 7 away games in a row without scoring. We're in relegation form. Time to turn attention to how we sort out the mess in the summer where 3 key players will be leaving and we won't get a penny for them. Not to mention the two loanees and main goalscorer going. A huge mess. Hoping we get a new manager in the summer and I think we will. We're looking at a 2-3 year re-building job which I don't think TM will have the appetite for. -

Same with Bristol City. Not kept an away clean sheet all season and then they play us and keep one. -

Dreadful. Anyone who doesn't think Mowbray out, just remember he spent £5m on Gally and gave him a new contract. Anyone can see he's not a footballer and he's cost us today. -

That performance resembled last season - all over the place at the back. No idea how Reading aren't a couple of goals up but here we sit at 0-0. Have a feeling Reading will rue those missed chances. -

Good line up. Let's go and get those 3 points. Feeling confident that we'll win today. -

Good win and much needed. I think it kicked off in the dressing room at ht and TM regrets some of the things he said. That's the impression I get from his post match interview. He's certainly questioning the commitment of some of the more "technical players" (Rothwell!). -

Wow. When did we last see a team collapse so badly in the same season. We've fallen off a cliff. -

I think we'll win today. We've played pretty well the last 2-3 games and should have won. Derby are very poor so we'll get chances tonight and will surely stick one or two away. Gallagher had to be dropped and is lucky to even be on the bench. 2-0 victory -

I'd say the worst result of the season. -

Pathetic. Mowbray, just go. -

It's all very frustrating given what a good position we were in to at least get the play off - now we're outsiders and the odds are against us. There are certainly criticisms of the manager to be had but we are missing a huge amount of attacking talent at the moment - Breo, Dack, Khadra, Poveda, Markanday. With one or two of those on the pitch last night we would have won. Attacking options of Gally, Giles and Vale is just not good enough. But why did we not sign another striker in Jan, why have we gone back to Tony Tombola with square pegs in round holes. We have big problems in the summer with SIX first team players departing - Nyambe, Breo, Lenihan, Rothwell and two brighton loaness. That's a lot of talent that will be very hard to replace. -

We played pretty well but you just knew we were never gonna score. Millwall were absolutely dreadful yet we still couldn't score. Mid table finish again probably. -

Boring. Only three goals THIS YEAR. -

Decent half overall as we've controlled the game. We just look very weak up top. No quality at all. Can't help but feel Giles is being played well out of position and there are no words for Gally. He works hard but he's not a footballer. -

How is Gally a professional footballer? -

I sadly agree. As much as I want promotion, we'd be the worst team in prem league history. -

Way too easy for Fulham. Game over already. We really are a dire watch these days. No attacking quality at all. -
Fully deserved. Dominated from start to finish. Great win.

Impressive performance so far. Surely we're gonna score in the second half.

There's no doubt TM has done a great job this season with a very limited squad. We do have some very talented players but the problem was always going to be when we picked up injuries to key players. The formation and the tactics are exactly the same as they were when we were winning games but it's a big ask for the same players to perform at high levels across the entire season. That's why we always see the inevitable drop off around Feb time. We needed to sign some attacking quality in Jan but we didn't. I agree with the post above that TM will probably decide to go bid farewell to the club in the summer. It's going to be a summer of rebuilding the squad and I don't think TM has the appetite for that. I'm hoping we can sell Diaz for 20m (although that may be a big stretch after a poor second half of the season) and we can invest in some good talent. We will lose half our team in the summer if you include the two brighton loanees, so it's a complete re-set and a good time for a new manager to come in.

They're good questions. Mowbray is a safe pair of hands and a real steady eddy. He probably won't get us promoted but its unlikely we'd go down him either. His successor could go either way, I don't have any faith in the decision makers at the club. I do think there will be a mutual parting of the ways in the summer.. -

TM post match comments: "I don't think we're a great football team". That's a big understatement. We can't even pass the ball or retain possession. That's tolerable when it's effective and you're winning games but is awful to watch when the results are not going so well. I don't enjoy watching this team but they do give it their all. -

Top 6 looking very unlikely now. We've crashed and burned as usual at this stage of the season. We'll probably win the final few games of the season when the top 6 is out of reach. That's usually what we do. -

QPR come from behind to win with 10 men, we lose against 10 men. Rubbish.
