  1. I think Miller is a decent replacement and I'm pleasantly surprised we're actually signing a replacement for Brittain. Miller has all the 'battle hardened' traits to be succesful here. Adds height to the team, can play CB, played at international level, very rarely gets beaten 1v1, and has a long throw. By all accounts, good defensively but not great going forward. Size, pace, and athleticism is a clear strategy this summer. Not sure of the calibre of player generally, but at least there is some kind of strategy I suppose! I suspect Baradji will sign at some point too who also fits that wider strategy. We're gonna try and outrun and outmuscle teams this season. Probably the right approach given we can't afford top players.
  2. Well highlighted. The club is an embarrassment quite frankly.
  3. He's going to go so get it done ASAP imo. If its left to later in the window then the club will claim they tried to get a replacement in but couldn't get it done in time. Then they hope, once again, it becomes yesterday's news and fans don't shout about the money not being re-invested. We're still waiting for the Wharton and Szmodics money to be re-invested! We saw a top-ish level striker as a priority in Jan and were linked with some good names, yet come the summer we're not even targeting a new striker. How does that work?!
  4. We've had a very poor window so far, there's no doubt about that. I'd give it a 2 out of 10. In the main, it's cheap punts from abroad whilst seeing experienced championship players go through the exit door. Oh and not a single new contract in sight for 3 of our best players. Brittain and Trav will likely leave this summer, Tronstad next summer. We continue on our downward spiral and the destination will be league 1 again at some point. Think we may be OK next season with Sheff W and Hull in disarray, but we're well on the path to league 1.
  5. They get £20m for Hackney...we got £20m for Wharton who will become one of the best midfielders in the prem. Oh to be a well run club. And barely a penny of the Wharton money re-invested whereas I bet Boro re-invest 50-75% of that fee.
  6. Absolutely no chance. Been linked with Monaco for €5m. Not a chance he's coming here.
  7. Currently strong in defensive areas (but with Brittain set to leave), strong CM (but with Trav likely to leave), very weak attacking options. De Neve, Tyjon, and Kargbo totally unproven at this level, Ohashi is good, Gueye a handful but very erratic and will never be a regular goal scorer, Leonard an injury write off, Cantwell is talented, and Hedges is simply not good enough. We've lost 5 attacking players over the summer - Dolan, Weimann, Dennis, Cozier-Duberry, and Woodrow (albeit the latter 3 completely ineffective and offered nothing). We absolutely need 3 more attacking additions - RW, ST, AM. Presume Baradji will replace Trav, and then it's 3 additions on top of that. 4 if and when Brittain goes.
  8. He's quietly building a good team there but it also feels like they're taking a gamble with some big money signings. He's added two quality defenders, championship experience all over the pitch, solid additions up top, and a wild card from the US. They've had a far, far better window than we've had by a long way and will finish in and around the top 6 next season with Eustace in charge. Top manager whether we like it or not.
  9. Absolutely! He's a limited player who would have struggled in the Premier League but I think he could do OK over in Spain, particularly against the lesser teams. I don't blame anyone for wanting to leave Rovers tbh. If we're brutally honest, it's been turned into an average, poorly run championship club with no ambition other than to develop young players. The wages are on the lower side too for a team in this division.
  10. Good move for Dolan. I think he will do well there and is able to test himself at a higher level on a significantly increased salary. Objectively, you can't blame him for not signing a new deal here. Us getting a lower amount in compensation makes no difference at all. None of it would have been re-invested into the squad, it would have gone into running costs.
  11. I would say we're currently weaker than our squad last season, but not significantly (yet!). The 'bigger' deals tend to be done towards the end of the window when the better loans become available and prices drop for the better players. So many unknowns yet, but Brittain will almost certainly leave and prob Trav too. That makes us significantly weaker than last season. Can we compensate that by being stronger in attacking positions? We need two attacking additions - RW and ST. The attacking players generally make or break your season. I do like the look of Kargbo and Tyjon. Think they'll add a lot to the attack next season. Ohashi could easily bag 15+ goals.
  12. Sorry, I meant signing a CB who can play LB in the interim until Jones is back fit. We need a CB anyway.
  13. I'd still sign him. Cracking player for the long term. CB who can cover LB in the interim.
  14. Nicko saying story not true. No deal agreed. Personally think he'll end up at Boro rather than Derby. Surely Derby will be in the same position as Sheff W and Hull next season. They are gambling big time.
  15. I'd personally steer clear of the Baradji signing and look elsewhere. It's a lot of money by our standards and there are too many red flags re: his fitness and injury status.
  16. 500k for an experienced championship centre half who, in Hull's fans words, was one of their stand out performers last season looks like very good business. Proven at this level, albeit a steady eddie type. I don't think Hull would be selling him for that kind of price if they weren't in the predicament that they're in.
  17. Good shout. Think that's spot on and will likely be the approach. In fact, getting Sanderson back may not be a bad idea given we need championship experience and leadership to balance up the 'riskier' signings we've made so far.
  18. McLoughlin is a sensible signing. Brings championship experience, leadership, and is a reliable figure at the back. A good replacement for Batth. We still need one more centre back though with two injury prone ones in Carter and Wharton. We will need a new right back and I think we'll get one in on loan at the end of the window. Don't think Ryan will be good enough to start regularly but is a good, pacy option off the bench. Montgomery, however, is someone who I think can be a regular starter in a year or so time, so it makes sense to bring in an experienced loan for a year.
  19. As it stands, I don't think we will get relegated next season. I think 2 places have already gone - Hull and Sheff W. Also think Charlton will struggle and will be the third team. QPR are on a strong downward trajectory too. Lower mid table as it stands for us right now unless we add some serious attacking talent. If Trav and Tronstad both go then that could change things and push us into big relegation trouble.
  20. The owner most likely wants to claw back as much money as he can before administration and doesn't give a jot about how the team performs next season. They will surely fill one of the relegation slots next season, along with Sheff W. I don't even wanna think who may be joining them!
  21. Would be a sensible signing. We need a couple of experienced championship players after losing Batth and Weimann. He'd fit the bill and was an ever present last season. You can always tell a lot from the reaction of fans - and their fans don't want to lose him. I wouldn't be totally surprised if we're still looking to add another CB in addition to this (if this story is true!). I could see Wharton moving out on loan later in the window. He needs regular game time and probably isn't a starter at the moment.
  22. I'm not bothered about Dolan leaving at all. Very average championship player. The real issues it does show though is that no player with any ambition or options wants to stay at the club and the replacement will be cheap/free and likely a downgrade. We haven't signed anyone yet that improves our first 11 from last season. In fact, we've lost/losing our 2 best defenders - Batth and Brittain. On the flip side, we've often not added to the squad at all by this point so at least we're quicker out of the blocks this year.
  23. I agree. At least we can sign a half decent replacement, well in theory, but will be looking at free transfers if leaves for nothing. Drameh at Hull would fit the bill.
