  1. Good move for Dolan. I think he will do well there and is able to test himself at a higher level on a significantly increased salary. Objectively, you can't blame him for not signing a new deal here. Us getting a lower amount in compensation makes no difference at all. None of it would have been re-invested into the squad, it would have gone into running costs.
  2. I would say we're currently weaker than our squad last season, but not significantly (yet!). The 'bigger' deals tend to be done towards the end of the window when the better loans become available and prices drop for the better players. So many unknowns yet, but Brittain will almost certainly leave and prob Trav too. That makes us significantly weaker than last season. Can we compensate that by being stronger in attacking positions? We need two attacking additions - RW and ST. The attacking players generally make or break your season. I do like the look of Kargbo and Tyjon. Think they'll add a lot to the attack next season. Ohashi could easily bag 15+ goals.
  3. Sorry, I meant signing a CB who can play LB in the interim until Jones is back fit. We need a CB anyway.
  4. I'd still sign him. Cracking player for the long term. CB who can cover LB in the interim.
  5. Nicko saying story not true. No deal agreed. Personally think he'll end up at Boro rather than Derby. Surely Derby will be in the same position as Sheff W and Hull next season. They are gambling big time.
  6. I'd personally steer clear of the Baradji signing and look elsewhere. It's a lot of money by our standards and there are too many red flags re: his fitness and injury status.
  7. 500k for an experienced championship centre half who, in Hull's fans words, was one of their stand out performers last season looks like very good business. Proven at this level, albeit a steady eddie type. I don't think Hull would be selling him for that kind of price if they weren't in the predicament that they're in.
  8. Good shout. Think that's spot on and will likely be the approach. In fact, getting Sanderson back may not be a bad idea given we need championship experience and leadership to balance up the 'riskier' signings we've made so far.
  9. McLoughlin is a sensible signing. Brings championship experience, leadership, and is a reliable figure at the back. A good replacement for Batth. We still need one more centre back though with two injury prone ones in Carter and Wharton. We will need a new right back and I think we'll get one in on loan at the end of the window. Don't think Ryan will be good enough to start regularly but is a good, pacy option off the bench. Montgomery, however, is someone who I think can be a regular starter in a year or so time, so it makes sense to bring in an experienced loan for a year.
  10. As it stands, I don't think we will get relegated next season. I think 2 places have already gone - Hull and Sheff W. Also think Charlton will struggle and will be the third team. QPR are on a strong downward trajectory too. Lower mid table as it stands for us right now unless we add some serious attacking talent. If Trav and Tronstad both go then that could change things and push us into big relegation trouble.
  11. The owner most likely wants to claw back as much money as he can before administration and doesn't give a jot about how the team performs next season. They will surely fill one of the relegation slots next season, along with Sheff W. I don't even wanna think who may be joining them!
  12. Would be a sensible signing. We need a couple of experienced championship players after losing Batth and Weimann. He'd fit the bill and was an ever present last season. You can always tell a lot from the reaction of fans - and their fans don't want to lose him. I wouldn't be totally surprised if we're still looking to add another CB in addition to this (if this story is true!). I could see Wharton moving out on loan later in the window. He needs regular game time and probably isn't a starter at the moment.
  13. I'm not bothered about Dolan leaving at all. Very average championship player. The real issues it does show though is that no player with any ambition or options wants to stay at the club and the replacement will be cheap/free and likely a downgrade. We haven't signed anyone yet that improves our first 11 from last season. In fact, we've lost/losing our 2 best defenders - Batth and Brittain. On the flip side, we've often not added to the squad at all by this point so at least we're quicker out of the blocks this year.
  14. I agree. At least we can sign a half decent replacement, well in theory, but will be looking at free transfers if leaves for nothing. Drameh at Hull would fit the bill.
  15. Oh damn! As soon as other clubs start bidding for our players...we know there's only one result, especially when they only have one year on their contract. If we lose Brittain and Batth, it is a big blow.
  16. I think it's been a better start to the window than we've had in previous years, that's for sure. Biggest failure so far has been losing Batth, that's a big loss. Big question marks over the future of Trav, Tronstad, and Brittain. Given our limited budget, I think the fall back cover signings make sense but are not massively exciting. Equally it would be silly to blow the budget on squad players. The two central midfielders I do think are good signings , only based on my limited knowledge of them. Our central midfield lacks running power and ball carrying ability so those two address that. I think Trav will go but we'll prob keep Tronstad for the last year of his contract given he likely doesn't have a huge transfer value anyway. No real headway made in attacking positions yet, but they cost more and were always likely to be additions made later in the window. Think we need 4 more players - CD, Striker, RW, and a versatile attacking midfielder/winger type. But we've given ourselves a good headstart this window whereas we usually have it all to do.
  17. Pace, athleticism and power has been the order of the day so far with our 4 new signings (2 imminent). Not counting Forshaw as he just re-signed. The two full backs are athletic and have pace. Probably squad players though. The two midfielders have athleticism and can carry the ball. Tavaers likely a back up, Baradji likely a starter. I don't know if any of them are any good but it's the right type of traits we've been crying out for. We do need a couple of more battle harden championship players to add experience to the squad. And some genuine quality in attacking areas. We need a replacement for Dennis, Weimann, and Dolan up top.
  18. This was only a few weeks ago: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/14982266/celtic-transfer-rumour-moussa-baradji/ Decent clubs linked with him previously, so hopefully that's promising!
  19. There have been more reports around Brittain saying things are progressing well. I agree losing both at the same time would be a big blow. I would rather lose Travis than Tronstad.
  20. Talks have happened, I'm sure of that. The players either have demands the club cannot match or they've told the club that they want to go.
  21. I think it's becoming very clear neither Trav or Tronstad will be signing new deals. The noises around Brittain signing a new contract sound more positive though. The fact we're spending good money (by our standards) on central midfielders shows that we expect both Trav and Tronstad to leave, so (a) we need replacements through the door and (b) we can anticipate getting some money from the sale of those two. We just can't keep our best players and haven't been able to do so for some time now. I do think both are replaceable though and Tavares and the Ajax guy, if he comes, would add a bit more youth, agility and technical ability to our CM which wouldn't be a bad thing. For me, the success or failure of the window will come from who we sign in attacking positions. Not fussed about Dolan or Weimann leaving, we need better than those two (but will probably get worse!).
  22. Definitely on board with the Tavares signing. Good pedigree and good age. Think he'll be a good signing. I'm almost certain he'll be the replacement for Travis though.
  23. A league 1 player, most probably where we're heading soon.
  24. It was a miracle season in lots of respects. The quality of the squad is bottom 8 so we did well to avoid a relegation battle, let alone get to the final day with a chance of top 6. Eustace proved he is the best manager in the championship, but there are signs that VI may not be as terrible as first feared. The summer will bring a tiny budget as always and I think we will sell some that only have one year remaining on their contracts. Players like Tronstad and Brittain know they can move onto better things. Dolan will obviously leave. The bottom line is that we are going nowhere (well, not in a positive direction anyway!) with Venky's as owners. Nothing changes there. Best players this season: Trav, Tronstad, Batth Biggest disappointments: Cantwell, Dennis
