  1. A guy near me a Man U fan of the armchair variety takes his 2 kids to PNE now because it's cheap. He said the older lad had shown a bit of interest after they'd been into his school doing something so he took him to a game. Not long after leaflets come through doors in Chorley advertising cheap season tickets a few years ago. Now they have 3 they wouldn't have had if it wasn't for this and probably at least one new life long knobber. Pretty soon Rovers won't be thought of as a local side in places like Chorley such is the takeover of Bolton and Preston because of their marketing.
  2. It's easy saying that now but just think about what it took to get back up to that level the previous 15 years were some of the best in the clubs history. Plus the pricing was more often than not more in line with the area rather than our profile as a top club. More or less the opposite has happened in the last decade.
  3. A lot of high profile and not so high profile ex players and managers who've done a decent stint here always seem to speak well of the fans. Clueless dimwits within our own support seem to get frustrated because we can't reach the levels of the likes of Boro etc every week. I'd suggest they are following the wrong club.
  4. It's pretty self explanatory so please let it sink in, they have a bigger fanbase and always have had. It's drawn from a bigger far less crowded catchment area so there are more people willing or able to cough up more.
  5. Oh please get a grip their catchment area is massive compared to ours bloody Stockton on the doorstep is the size of Burnley ffs. Do they have 3 clubs on their doorstep competing from the same surrounding areas ? Shut up !
  6. It is a bit dumb proclaiming it out loud when 3,500 of it is from the opposition. So the number of home fans was probably down on the previous crowd or certainly no different. We still have to rely on 3 or 4 thousand match by match attenders just to get past 12k.
  7. Iv'e a lot of faith in this side to dig something out again at home against one the divisions better teams however i also think we could be punished on the counter by these lot in a way Boro couldn't. This is the Championship though and it throws up surprises all the time. Rovers 1 Makems 1 16,539
  8. Bradley who.... ? Szmodz well on the way to being a cult hero, only problem is a player like him in his position who grafts so much it'll be hard to shine in back to back games. So relying on him to come up with something every game is unwise, he needs help at the top end and yesterday apart from the clever little move pr Sammies goal Gallagher was useless in that central position again.
  9. You should've given him directions to the fans forum meeting room just so he knows where it is.
  10. Wilcox struggled at first mainly because he was about 8 stone wet through despite not being short in height that was his biggest issue. Crowd were way too harsh at times but he wasn't really ready physically but a bit like now we were desperate. To go from Brotherston, to Sellars to him was at the time a big come down and it wasn't his fault but he took the brunt of it. Hes said himself though it was character building in its rawest sense and he always had bags of that he didn't melt he was determined to prove everyone wrong. Different era though when boo boys were water off a ducks back to most players it was part and parcel and everybody had them, a lot worse than ours as well.
  11. I reckon if the club was treated the same on their books they'd all be in jail by now. It does show along with a few other things down the years that they are ruthless business people who'll swerve certain rules if they think they can get away with it.
  12. He definitely struggles in the position he's playing but also he tries to be too clever with everything in or around the box. I said that when he lashed at the penalty rebound it was schoolyard kickabout stuff trying to be spectacular. Yesterday the header miss was quite pathetic it was like a defensive clearance wtf is he doing there trying to flick it in the top corner of an open goal ? Later on he tries to bring down a ball to lash a shot off instead of a simple touch to the player in space which should have been a certain goal. Selfish, plain and simple and needs to iron it out or he'll be out but like has been said he's a great squad player but has never been a great starter.
  13. I just look at it in very basic terms for example say they make 50 million profit then send 20 million to cover an overseas loss making arm of the corporation. I've no idea how they'd write that down on the books other than investment in an arm of the business that needs it too survive in the pursuit of the ultimate goal where it could deliver back some big money. So basically it's just 20 million off that profit it's down as some sort of expense so is tax deductible. Of course the devil is in the detail and it doesn't just go out as one 20 million lump. Maybe if all the wages are paid from India that is just absorbed by the VH group payroll or something ? Point is rather than just owning the club to avoid tax which is where the confusion lies it's more a case of after the initial purchase ideas fell through it just sits there in a corner of their empire. It absorbs a chunk of profit and therefore keeps the tax bill down a bit, i think the fact the govt has whacked firms with a 15% increase in foreign investment kind of backs this up. Too much money going abroad and not being taxed or invested at source so they want to curb it. Of course it might be non of the above and funded by massive borrowings against land that the venky contribution just services that debt. Then every now and then the crap hits the fan and player sales are needed to pay it down a bit. That is a far more scary thought than any tax loopholes.
  14. One of his best games imo. Couple of hairy moments from corners but Boro were targeting that on purpose i reckon hoping he'd flap.
  15. Take it in the context it was meant.
  16. Or being saved for it by uncle Tony, Dacky has a point to prove to 'that club' remember and we know Mowbray is soft as shite when it comes to this stuff.
  17. What they've pulled them up for with the house stuff does seem very petty which to me indicates they are either getting really tough and crawling all over them because something else is suspected. Or it's just a warning shot across the bows, toe our line or we'll go rooting further.
  18. It's a crazy flip from one extreme to another. Mowbray signed plenty of players with first team experience in various leagues but they always had to play second fiddle to his wage driven pecking order. Even then he wouldn't consider them for selection or starts until they hit certain targets in training - allegedly. Now it's a case of throw them straight in even if half of them have never experienced mens football, anywhere. If you can run, your in, sadly this needs a great deal of patience and understanding from fans and the majority do, these kids need 100% 98 mins support every game good bad or ugly there can be no entitlement in the stands anymore i'm afraid. I think the fans have been good with that so far to be fair in the ground as frustrating as it can be. Think Rovers need a pubic warning though on match adverts now, please go and watch plenty U23s football so you've an understanding of the instant step up some are trying to jump overnight.
  19. They won't let us off the hook missing chances and conceding so many corners and counters like today.
  20. I thought he showed show decent touches and movement when he came on but his closing down and defending from the front was non existent. Very very similar to George Hirst but they'll have to drill that into him in training over the coming months, he is however another great example of not to expect much when we are signing these type of lads. We sign cheap young development players and that is all they are at present.
  21. For a neutral that must've been a great game to watch but for me and expect even many boro fans it was nail biting stuff, that's entertainment though as they say. Some cracking football but some terrible giving the ball away needlessly all over the park by us, how that didn't end up 4-4 i'll never know. JDT backed Pears and was proven right again but we really needed an older head in the middle and Wharton was a liability after 70 mins. I was dreading Wharton snr coming on and us going to 3 at the back trying to hold on when what we needed was someone shielding the defence in deep mid. Liked what i saw of James Hill in that position even if only for a few mins, thought Brittain had is best game for a while and thank god for Sammie proving if you keep trying you'll get your reward. Great win and vital 3 points as Ewood will be key again this season because with this seasons style and naivety i think we'll get some poundings away from home.
  22. Has anybody said they are making a profit ? We are discussing why they are so comfortable in making losses in the region of 20 million a year for a decade. Like i said you and i know naff all about it i post my opinion based on what is public knowledge not what i want to believe or don't believe based on a UK payslip. You say you know nothing about it but go to great lengths to try and prove otherwise which is a bit odd. I'll stick to my opinion as will will others and you stick to yours and unless you can prove your theory then this is my last word with you on it. All i will say is they are being done for tax loophole stuff nobody has made that up and the Indian govt seems to be going to great lengths to make vast wealth transfer difficult. Venkys invest millions into India so the govt can't really complain about that but they aren't happy at 200 mill coming over here either, presumably because they've missed out on a large tax revenue from that had it stayed in India. That kind of tells its own story.
  23. Nobody on here or posting at least has any idea how the accounting works at a huge Indian billion dollar corporation thousands of miles away. Just because some have an opinion one way, based on the things we know publicly, doesn't mean it's a fantasy nor conspiracy. Just the same as those who claim to know accounting etc, or just don't want to believe anything that might not seem obvious to others , are automatically right either. What we do know is working the system is commonplace by various means amongst huge corporations and the very wealthy. We also know that something is going on that has affected the club and so far resulted in seizure or assets in India, we also know this firm has been investigated before for other issues. This is on top of firing 200 million over to the UK for nothing in return other than their own amusement according to some. That is bollocks there's a lot more to all this but unless the house of cards comes down we'll never know but leave the point scoring at home eh.
  24. I don't think there needs to be this mass panic about Pears he's proved ok if not great we've won plenty games with him in the sticks so if his name is the first read out it doesn't mean automatic defeat. The rest of the team were equally to blame at Plymouth as was the over focus on fancy possession football with no killer instinct. Today needs to be front foot, winning the ball back with some urgency and just get ourselves in front however it comes. They are more desperate than us for points so far more pressure on them. Forget trying to look good just try and get the win however it comes.
