Perhaps he loves playing under TM?

Iv'e no doubt he does as TM has been very good to him and for him. We have to accept a lot of them like him and follow his instructions to the letter.

He seems very much a players manager, over and above points and results at times by the look and sound of him.  He bends over backwards for his favs and treats even the most useless as a nursery project until they get fit and get contracts elsewhere. At the cost of our clubs money....

Also seems the type to freeze out or weed quite quickly out those who don't exactly worship him. There'd be quite a few bottom lips out around the place if he got potted but i think that's exactly what a lot of our players actually need.

They need a bit of a culture shock instead of coasting it protected under the managers umbrella of excuses.

Lambert was recruited to sell Rhodes.

Job done, he exercised his pre-arranged escape clause.

He expected the Rhodes cash is another theory. Give me a break. Lambert was never that stupid.

According to an ex director employed at that time he was promised cash AND the Rhodes money.  That's the only reason he took the job on in the first place so i'm reasonably on board with that theory.

He wasn't totally stupid though you are right, hence the escape clause. A complete twohat would just sit on as long a contract as he could wrangle until he got a payoff.

  3. Rovers have gone from being Venkys baby to being Mowbray & Cos permanent experiment by the looks of it. I often wonder if he or someone he works with have shares in the place such is his teflon coated demeanor and all too apparent indifference to results.

We have no semblance to Barnsley or Brentford other than beginning with a B and never will with these lot playing around with it.

  4. Getting Pears some first team experience isn't a bad idea but where he'll get it who knows.

I said when we signed him the longer Mowbray is here the more chance of Pears ending up number 1 is a reality.

I'll stand by that, probably next season is my guess.  Faint hope that the manager is sorting out a mate before he gets potted though.

Absoloutely this.  We need a 6ft 4 Nzonzi type lad in the middle to give us a bit if presence.  Too many small, light weight players as it is.

They'll never sign anybody who might stand there and look intimidating to the manager or other players.

He doesn't want leaders, only followers.

As for this Gauld lad i think i'd probably rather sign another highly rated Prem loanee. At least they can be sent back if it doesn't work. Iv'e zero point zero faith in this management doffing out  2 or 3 year contracts to anybody outside of a few we already have.

‘Soldiers and Artists’ was the cracker to top them all from the fella who was actually the Hovis bicycle boy as a kid.

Now I’ve said it, it could well be the new ST brochure tag line - though not sure there will be any ‘artists’ left come August... or ‘soldiers’ come to think of it.

His idea of soldiers is foot soldiers not the ones you'd always want in the trenches with you.

Ones who'll be told what to do to the letter even if they keep losing the battles, not answer back and be happy to be thrown in and out depending on the enemy. Without complaining of course.

I think the problem with Mowbray's dressing room is that it's full of 'nice' people. Competitive sport needs spikey personalities, an edge, a bit of ruthlessness and once in a while outright badness. We need grit in the oyster, he's assembled a team of boy scouts.  We're going to win nothing if he continues to buy guys who are in touch with their feelings.

That in a nutshell is why TM will never build a team capable of promotion. We need a couple of evil sods like a Batty or a Keeley. Not going to happen though is it.

Flat caps, rattles and "play up you blues" is a Roy of the Rovers fantasy of a bygone era, the sport of today is a totally different beast and Mowbray is lost in the past.  What holds good for players holds good for managers. Think of spikey managers like Hughes or Warnock, think Ferguson or Souness and compare to TM, who's going to win something and who's not.

Exactly, nice lads, nice slow sideways football, nice training ground banter etc.

Nice comfort zone for every one to sit in the middle of the division whilst the gaffer rotates to keep everyone happy.

Best job in the division for any bog average yes man.

  8. There'll be a big charm offensive at some point late summer no doubt.

Their stock is low at the moment with people having lost faith in the manager, the football style and the training ground scam, sorry scheme.

Surely somebody will realize this at some point although it won't be the ownership. Or their messenger boy who is in my opinion nothing more than another arse coverer out for as easy a ride as possible.

Expect a fanfare of trumpets once STs have gone on sale and a few frees have been signed. Big talk again from the manager about history, hard work and integrity, non of which covers up for the previous few years bull.

This is all before we take into account the damage covid might have done as well.

Faith needs restoring but just expect Groundhog day, anything else will be a bonus.

  9. Think we need to remember we've still got the basis of a good squad here.

It's mostly young and has flaws and weak spots that need strengthening . Half a dozen good additions makes it competitive again in the middle of the table. That's likely to be frees and loans so it's a big job but i don't want to see them chucking contracts at anyone who'll come on less than ten grand a week.

Massive job but one that will probably have the usual last min casual approach to it.

I'd much prefer a new conductor overseeing it though, everything needs freshening up.  Another jobs for the boys, nice lads, do as they are told summer will leave us struggling next season once the 'knocks & pitches' take their usual toll  (only in Blackburn) of course.

  10. We ended up having a good summer window last time around looking at it on paper. Didn't make any difference though once the manager, a few knocks and covid had entered the equation.

I'm not sure i can get excited by any signings this summer given we know exactly what will happen. Maybe an underwhelming one and smaller squad will clip the the tombolas wings and work in our favor instead.

After all 12/13th will  be hailed a success and progress come next May !

  11. Hasn't he always been seen as a wide right forward by the management ?

It looks like him right, Gallagher left as per the experiment recently then probably end up with Dolan in the middle.  Or a young loanee winger, excuse being keep a berth open for Dack !

No way is this guy bringing in a proper striker if Armstrong leaves, just doesn't seem to fit his philosophy....sorry ..tombola.

I can't think of a single aspect of the operation of the club that has improved over the last 10 years.

A few aspects that have declined:

    Integrity.
    Attendances.
    Squad quality/league position/cup runs.
    Management quality.
    Board of directors quality.

    Bank balance.

    Commercial operation.

    Public relations.
    Ticket pricing.

    Atmosphere.
    Playing surface.
    Ewood Park maintenance.
    Catering service.
    Merchandise.
    Away travel service.

    Medical and physio depts.

  13. Yet more nonsense they ALL knew this was ongoing so they are either very naive or as i suspect bull shitting people.

Makes sense when you think about it, both guys can have another payday in fights they have to have. Fights they both theoretically should win then the huge unification is still on.

So i can't see either them or their promoters crying about it just like i can't see anyone tipping up 20 mill to Wilder.  Doubt he'd accept it either.

  14. Mowbray most certainly does 'get' Rovers, the club/fans/town he spent almost the entire first few years telling us about it.

What he also began to get was the owners, how they tick and what they like to hear, as well as sussing the void between here and India and what can get lost in it.  He knows he's made a series of cock ups that have contributed a large slice of where we are now.

He also knows by now what he can get away with/say and how far he can push it and that it only matters how the owners see it not the fans or anyone else.

A very crafty old dog he is who did a few good years and has lived off it the past 2 but that won't go on forever.

Might be the season before the one you're on about but Martin Dahlin as well.

£6m and never off the treatment table.

That's one of the things that upset Sherwood so much apparently. Came in on quite a bit more money than him.

There was talk around that time that some of these guys were coming in on the same or bigger money than some who'd won the league here.

Makes sense when you consider how quickly the rot set in.

I wouldn't want Hodgson. He's very much in the Mowbray mold, albeit has operated at a much higher level for most of his career. Maybe we can't be picky and he'd be classed as a coup at this stage.

Bang on, said a few times iv'e always thought Mowbray is like a lower league Hodgson.

Asks too much from some bang average players, attacking full backs, complicated systems. Multiple in game changes and doesn't know how to recruit good center backs or target men. Doesn't make the best use of the backing he had and an obsession with playing guys out of position.

That's before we start with the waffle and demeanour.

It was better. 'Much' better is maybe a stretch. It was decent apart from the core weaknesses. The terrible two in central midfield, and for much of the time, like today, a flimsy defence. It was briefly solid in the centre of defence at least, but then we promptly lost Hanley and Duffy. I can't recall if that was before or after Cairney left.

Cairney wide was a criminal misuse of a player by shunting them wide. TM would have been proud of it. He was actually more effective even there than the current incumbents though. Was fuming when we sold him on the cheap.

Cairney was sold first from under GBs nose allegedly.  Just before the season i think although might be wrong on that.

It opened to gates for the fire sale though.
