  1. Fence Gate. Eagles OK and through lack of anything better towards Blackburn the piano bar is becoming the trendy haunt for the late night drinkers who used to frequent Yu and Yu's. The food is OK but nothing special and with wine etc included it's a little too easy for a party to tick up a 3 figure bill per couple. It's busy at the moment but with Mytton Hall, Three Fishes, Piccolino's and Nico's all chasing the same customers with the Villa, Emporium etc (all within 3 miles of each other) bringing up the rear it's going to be interesting to see who will survive and who will fall by the wayside. Yu and Yu's has fallen on 'quieter' times because of failings in cost and quality and quite rightly so and imo the Eagle may just do the same. btw I may be wrong but speaking of trendy late night drinkers from the smart set...... Sorry but I didn't spot a bike rack when I was there Colin.
  2. Discussed and recommended just last night. Prob try lunch there cos taxi rates render it too far away for a proper 'neet aht'.
  3. Do they conduct the 'softly softly, prosecute the dealer not the user' approach over there like they do here? If so it's no wonder is it?
  4. Who cares about that lot? Most of em welcomed Ince last summer as some sort of modern day messiah ffs! I frequently refer to them as the 'Know nowts' gumboots. I suggest that you do likewise. I'll go with that but ... I'm sure he's had evry opportunity for that too.
  5. Are you Alan Shearer by any chance?
  6. Gosh! Shock horror! A professional footballer telling lies! Whatever next? So all credit to him for his over achievement eh? You are just blaming him for taking what was on offer. He didn't set the salary level. Who wouldn't do the same?
  7. No doubt he can easily live with it.
  8. Sounds like a good day out. Good chance to try the Bowland Brewery beers too. btw for a cheap sesh try the Blackburn Brewery Co at Feni. Dont know if it's still the same but they used to do an 'all you can drink' night for a tenner. Bit laddish and not really for the ladies of course but who cares?
  9. Or the Lakes even.
  10. Used to be a favourite courting spot of mine tris. Sadly far too many years ago. The Inn is full of charm that has allowed it to rise above the country pub drink driving malaise that has seen off so many other isolated rural establishments. Book in there for a meal and overnight stay with a new gf and the knicker elastic would loosen as soon as they saw the place..... I am told.
  11. I'd love a hat trick.... Coyle to Celtic would make my year! As for the game............ Utd's big players didn't turn up. VDS never caught a ball all night without dropping it first. The midget Messi scored with a far post header! Carrick is over rated and the front two stars were played out of position. CF on the wing and a winger at CF. Capello would be absolutely slaughtered by the press and media if he played Rooney on the wing for England! In a nutshell Fergie screwed up. btwe JW must be tearing his hair out. All the initiatives he's dreamt up to get folk in from whalley and audley ranges and a bus load turn up in Rome! They must have a doozy of a prayer room there.
  12. Can he? One could argue that his miss v Bolton cost 1.5m! But that would be unfair to blame such huge money loss on him alone when taking into account some of Roberts misses, Derbs abberation v City and JW appointing that dud Paul Ince in the first place.
  13. ........... superb cuisine and cheap as chips. Plan to finish off the night in the local and t'jobs a gud un. When I go to the bukhara I try to time it so that we go an hour sooner than our normal time of 8-9pm anywhere else and still have time to have a few scoops in the local.
  14. Told you so page 3. You'll have to trust me whilst you are around these parts Philip. btw San Marco Much Hoole Sat night. Good food, good ambience and excellent value. Pity it's quite a long drive. Clog and Billy Sunday night. Good food as usual but the bill ticked up faster than Sat nights foray.
  15. Seconded Tris. A true profesionall and captain of Holland to boot. Only our plethora of centre halves forced him to step in for so long out of position at full back. Otherwise he'd have played much more at CH and we'd be rueing his leaving much more too. He wouldn't need to buy a drink in my local thats for sure.
  16. I think trying to talk sense to Vinjay is just a waste of time and effort. And that goes for more than a few with regard to Lucas Neill. The level of animosity is puzzling given a. the amount of players that leave us every season usually the exact same reason. and b. the fact that the most vitriol comes from members who when questioned dont even rate him. Now is that effin weird mentalities or what? Who'se leg did he break with a reckless tackle?
  17. You might be too topman. If your suggestion was the case then Hughes would surely have given the captains armband to Bentley or similar wouldn't he?
  18. No. A clear headed, strong, leader of men who commands the respect of his teammates is captain material. Best / Gazza / Ronaldo etc etc would never be captain material. Neither in our squad would Tugay RSC or Benny.
  19. He'd have stayed too if we had upped his pay to 70k pw. But he wasn't worth it imo. If you had been manager Simon would you have raised his wage to that level Rev and had every other player and their agent queueing up outside your office door? Pay up or shut up being the obvious counter to this situation. Also people should view the larger picture and think more positive ........ if we had not traded Neill in we would not have got Warnock and he is a better player. I wouldn't swap back thats for sure. Why there is animosity toward Lucas Neill is really baffling and completely illogical.
  20. Very similar to the way Neill left in fact. I wonder if it's revealed that he's going to double his salary that Ooijer will suddenly become a greedy grabbing barsteward not fit to wear the shirt etc etc.
  21. I saw Thursdays episode with the puddings. Did he win? 1. Nice drive up and back and a lovely location but the Highwayman is their quietest eaterie. 2. Unforseen at the time but I understand that the Clog and Billy has swiped business from the Three Fishes. 3. Sounds like you might still have one to go. Spoke to NH a fortnight ago and he said that RVI's have just opened the Bull at Broughton Tris. No Lanky food of course everything is sourced in Yorkshire for that one. I'm in a bit of a quandary whether to go or not.
  22. Soon going to be a victim of it's own success. Saturday's might be best avoided. I drove past on Saturday and the carpark was overflowing and diners were parking on the road. A 2.5 hour wait was in place I understand. There's no need for that with so many alternatives. It's good but not that good.
  23. The Spread Eagle at Barrow last night. Food OK, atmoshere vibrant but the bill seemed expensive at the end of the evening. For the star struck there was a sprinkling of local celebs...... 1. Stuart Ripley was in mourning for Boro's chances and very scathing about their lack of quality. 2. For the older members who remember him and fast asleep sat upright in a chair by 12.30 was another ex-player from the North East David Hamilton. 3. Looking as satisfied as the cat that got the cream and appearing very popular, ex Agent Kilby. Lets hope that he's soon looking as glum as Rippers! 4. Me.
