  1. Only a real ale snob of the arran sweater, thick cords and hush puppy variety would think that wiggy.
  2. Supermarkets have seen most town butchers off unfortunately Tris. Don't go to any of those for fresh meat. Best butcher by most accounts is Roy Porter at Chatburn but it's a bit of a trek unless you are passing that way. Failing that decent butchers proliferate along the A59 at Samlesbury. Huntleys, Fairfield Farm and George Sharps in Mellor are all good. (btw Huntleys also has a good food hall and a superb fishmonger). Closer to home I'm sure that you'll get good meat at Darwen and Blackburn markets. Farmers markets are usually good but I find em a bit expensive and the Hoghton tower one is only every month or so. If you want lamb or beef in quantity for the freezer lots of local farmers will supply you and even organic is available locally. Good hunting
  3. Crikey Tris you certainly get about. Have you not got a kitchen in your house yet?
  4. Dined there myself last night. 1. Food was good if a taj overpriced. No better than the excellent but much smaller Millstone at Mellor in that respect. 2. They really need to do away with using breadboards as plates. I'm sure that the novelty has worn off and I always suspect the hygiene levels. 3. They do need Carlsberg Export on tap. A quality restaurant chain should not be serving natts p1ss to the more discerning lager drinkers. 4. It's going to be as much a social experience than an eaterie. I couldn't move for people that I know but haven't seen for ages. Enjoyable night all the same. Packed out too, so whether that was people 'giving it a go' or genuine regular diners of the future only time will tell. I assume competitors that will feel the effects of any success at the Clog will include the Millstone, Thyme and Inside Out..... and to an extent the Three Fishes!
  5. I thought they were the Shami's?
  6. Crikey you were quick off the mark! I must say I sneaked in late on for a quick peek and a problem as with all these Thwaites bars (Mytton Hall and 3 Fishes etc) is that the brewery appears to be attempting to force the dreadful Warsteiner into the pumps that should /used to be occupied by Carlsberg Export, (Carling not really being an option). It's plain that Carlsberg Export costs the brewery a lot more and therefore less profitable but Warsteiner is poor and isn't even classed as lager it's a bloody beer. On the plus side they have Wainwrights on.
  7. Odats well ard dat Jamie, know what I mean ey ey ey. No doubt it will help sell a few copies of what must surely be the most boring book in footballing history but does Carragher mention that slow motion revealed quite clearly that his big strong manly scouse leg actually snapped through contact with Lucas Neill's trailing big toe that was neatly tucked up under his body as he tackled?
  8. Google 'spice lounge blackburn' and give em a ring BB.
  9. Now thats what I call a varied diet!
  10. Khyber is Pakistan fare isn't it? Anyway last time I asked the Bukhara proprieter told me that he himself was Indian but that he always employed Pakistani chefs cos they were the best by far at preparing meat dishes. Of course he could have been bullshitting I guess.... but it's mighty odd imo that we rarely see restuarants / takeaways advertised their fare by using the word 'Pakistani / Afghanistani / Bangladeshi' cuisine isn't it? It's nearly always generalised under the word 'Indian'.
  11. Garlic naan breads / elephants ears in the khyber are legendary. If those are better I'd love to try some.
  12. 1. Best hot and sour soup around and belting salt and pepper spare ribs. 2. Oi! Careful..... My mates 15 year old daughter works there.
  13. Odd thing about veggies.... Why do they always try to make their food sound like meat products? Cheese suasages / veggie burgers / nut cutlets etc to name a few.
  14. "There's none so blind as they that won't see." dirk.
  15. "The former Millwall defender stunned the Premier League when he chose to sign for struggling West Ham for £1.5million rather than Liverpool in January 2007 when his Blackburn contract was running out and he had to endure accusations of putting money before ambition." Whats wrong with that? Most people do that and especially those that work at BAC.
  16. Poor fare there. It's curry for the middle classes and just a place to be seen in. You and You's is going the same way. 3rdPillar try down the road at the Bukhara... if you don't mind being the only native in the place that is and if you can stand the big let down of not having a drink with it. Trick is to go out an hour sooner and have an hour longer in the pub afterwards.
  17. Aha! Sussed you out Jimbo! You are really a double agent working for the tory party! scotchrover will have your guts for garters when he realises.
  18. Given the depth of affection that so many hold JW in is it not time that the town council actually recognised the man who must rank as one of Blackburns favourite sons? In true comic fashion they missed a good chance with the naming of the new Iron Bridge so it might be appropriate upon completion to re-name Barbara Castle Way as Jack Walker Way.
  19. I know he's in the Netherlands but I'm not sure either his goeography of history nis up to scratch. Close your eyes and he sounds like the barman Rene in Allo Allo.
  20. Doubt it. But we need to get rid of Ince and grab Big Sam or else City'll surely turn to him when Hughes leaves.
  21. They'll have to get a shift on. Thats a Tuesday. Sensibly allowing for gremlins to be sorted by the weekend I suppose.
  22. Blue Diamond owner sold that when he moved to the Spring Mill (Sylette). Alright that lad.... he played Christmas carols over the Christmas period rather than that wailing stuff.
  23. Excellent Thai restaurant but somebody told me that it had closed down. Anyone know if this is true?
  24. And one absolutely electrifying save from Cech that no one else would have got near. Correct. There was only one way the club was moving when Souness left, and that was almost certain relegation. If Freddie Shepherd comes in my local he'll drink for free.
  25. Events have screwed him and screwed us. The door should not have been slammed behind him just because he wanted to angle for the Chelsea job. It wasnt a slight on BRFC at all but it is a slight on us that he has left us for Dodge City! The Chelsea job is about the best in the world, all of football recognise that but when the russian wouldn't play ball there should have been a way for him to return with some dignity.
