I wonder how much they are offering? A loan with an obligation would delight the top brass at Ewood. Can't reinvest the money but gives us a guaranteed income for the future, so the billionaire owners don't need to dip so far into their pockets. What did we sign him for? £1m? If they come in with £2m, he's gone.

I'm sure JE has been onto Brittain and given him the big sell on Derby, no doubts there. But if he really wanted that move, and JE's got the backing of Derby's owners, why haven't they been back in for him? Not much point in waiting 3 weeks for Boro to get back in there.

I think if he was off to Derby, he would have gone by now. Seems he really wants the Boro move and has held out, even returning to Preseason for the last few weeks, in hope that it happens. He must have had encouraging talks with Boro that they would push a deal through if he sat tight.

No surprise really. I'm not sure we can get away without reinvesting any of the money, as RG said previously. Alebiosu is totally untested at this level and Montgomery is a natural CM. Duru looked ok previously but seems to be injured still from last season (I think?)

I doubt we would have done. We will have waited to see how severe the injury was first. Which is a fairly sensible move but we then ran the risk of not showing enough loyalty to him and as has happened, he took a better offer. Had that contract been offered shortly after he picked up his injury, he probably would have signed it but then he could have been out for longer and then we'd all be kicking off that we signed him up for another year and wasted all those wages. In fairness, it was a slightly difficult situation, depending on when we knew how long he'd be out for. JE could have been in his ear from the moment he got the Derby job as well tbf, so he might never have signed it.

Of course they could all be great additions, we do need to see them over a reasonable period before judging too much. However the overall point does remain, that Taveres is highly unlikely to replace Tronstad or Travis as a starting CM, McLoughlin probably wouldn't be ahead of a fully fit Wharton/Carter and Alebiosu won't be displacing Brittain. De Neve, at least, seems to be in more favour than anyone for that left hand side of midfield. It doesn't feel like we have signed players to come into the first team, more just back up's for the players who are already here. For a club to move forward, you surely need to be signing players who are better than what you have already? Agreed, if he comes in and takes his chance, he should retain his place. The point being that if all our centre backs were fit to play, he probably wouldn't be getting that chance in the first place.

I think he'll start De Neve and McLoughlin. Not saying either improve on what we have but I think he'll start McLoughlin over putting Wharton straight back in and Carter is injured. With a fully fit selection of centre backs, I don't think McLoughlin starts. De Neve has started most of the pre-season games, so assume VI rates him over Kargbo, who has largely come off the bench. I agree though, the recruitment has been poor in the main. No desire to improve on what we have, just get players in for low fees, who they hope they can sell in a season or 2 just by virtue of being championship players.
