  1. You can't really "get by" with below average players in any position on the pitch at this level, as others teams will just exploit that weakness. The squad needs a ton of work with the goalkeeper and attackers at the forefront of those requirements. If we don't adress both positions we'll be at the bottom of the table again, like last season where we had Pears in net but also the Championship leading goalscorer and very nearly went down.
  2. Even if you overlook his major howlers, he's just a poor goalkeeper generally. Doesn't command his area or his defence, poor on Crosses, weak. He'll have the odd good game, as do most footballers but they are one offs. He's a reasonable shot stopper for the most part but he can even be really weak on those as well (see the Ipswich goal in the 0-1 defeat)
  3. He is not a No.1 goalkeeper, certainly not at this level. He'd be a reasonable No.2, playing the odd game when required. Thanks for making me watch those highlights again. Not having that at all, the pass was fine and the nearest Sheff Wed player was miles away. He could have taken a touch if needed. Edit: even if you mean Hyam was under pressure, the pass was still fine. Absolutely no excuses for Pears on this one.
  4. If we sell Leo and bring in Ruddy it will be just a classic waste of time/money that we have to endure under this horrific club structure. If Leo does leave, we have the opportunity to go and sign a decent No.1. Bringing in Ruddy and persisting with Pears is just complete madness.
  5. https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-legend-enlists-former-blades-teammates-help-in-bid-to-earn-blackburn-rovers-stay-4659400 👆 a minor piece about Fleck working with former teammate and former Rover Jack O'Connell, who focused more on fitness after retiring early due to injury, in order to get himself in shape to earn a deal at Rovers.
  6. And yet, despite chucking money down the drain by taking him on good wages, we are lining ourselves up to do the same again.
  7. If we go into the season with Leo and Pears as our 2 keepers, we're in for another season of struggle. We obviously have plenty of issues to address in the squad but a reliable No.1 has got to be the priority. Just look at the difference Kaminski made when you've had Walton, Steele and now Pears/Leo in net.
  8. So many issues to resolve this summer: New No.1 keeper Sell Dolan (if he won't sign a new contract) Sell Gallagher Sell Hyam (if he won't sign a new contract) Sell Sigurdsson (if he won't sign a new contract) Likely to lose Szmodics Do we retain Fadz? Do we sell Buckley? Can we sell Markanday? All those plus new signings we need and any replacements we need to make. Big summer and on top of that we are gutting the recruitment/scouting department.
  9. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/sam-gallagher-blackburn-rovers-carlton-palmer-ipswich-town/ Here's the article where Carlton Palmer's brain turns to melted ice cream as he says: "I think a fee in the region of about £8m would probably see him leave Blackburn Rovers this summer." Can only assume he thinks Sam Gallagher is Sammie Szmodics or something.
  10. France (annoingly) will probably win it
  11. Sigurdsson on the bench for tonight, as is Wharton
  12. Superb stuff seeing Wharton going to the Euros. Absolutely delighted for him.
  13. Not if they are going to be hamstrung by the owners/board/waggot/suhail.
  14. The last 14 years have been a shit show. Rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic now isn't going to do jack shit
  15. Not all terrible but the majority not really good enough. Tronstad and Hill aside, the rest have made little to no impact in the first team. Whalstedt, obviously made some high profile errors. If we had a fully fit squad, only Tronstad would be starting out of all 13 signings (with the exception of Hill, who was obviously recalled)
  16. On the back foot, playing catch up already with nothing but a packet of love hearts and a Curly wurly for a transfer budget. Shambles.
  17. Wtf? Did we know he was leaving? You've referenced him loads in posts recently.
  18. Surely they have bigger/better fish to fry than Gallagher? Mental how most Rovers fans would be happy to see them back of him and yet he could be a premier league player by the start of the season.
  19. Mark Venus has officially left Birmingham now. Could he rock up back here?
  20. I'll bow to your superior knowledge on this one but if our striking pool is this guy, Gallagher and Leonard (assuming he doesn't go on loan), still doesn't feel good enough.
  21. Don't know anything about him but his CV isn't particularly impressive. He also played for 12 different clubs in just a 5 year period. Not quite sure what went on there. He's hardly been banging goals in throughout his career though.
  22. Can't be true, surely? He's had a very random career since he was last in English football though: Last English club: West Brom 2017-2018: 21 games, 3 wins, 14.3% win rate - left by mutual agreement ADO Den Haag 2019-2020: 8 games, 1 win, 12.5% win rate, season stopped due to covid - left by mutual agreement. CAKA Sofia 2022: 7 games, 1 win, 14.3% win rate - left after CSKA fans threw bananas at black CSKA players (was also technical director here prior to becoming manager) Aris Thessaloniki 2022-2023: 22 games, 9 wins, 40.9% win rate - left by mutual agreement. The last 3 roles have been very random, it would be a really strange choice for the Dingles if they are hoping he replicates his Newcastle/Palace form from 10 years ago.
