  1. Arf, arf ! Bet the Yorkshire "wags" loved you.
  2. No ideas. No imagination. No flair. No bottle. No quality. No points. No hope.
  3. All good stuff Bazza - I liked Langton too - but you're wasting your time. The youngsters aren't interested in players pre-1980. I'm disappointed that Mike Harrison has not got a single vote so far.
  4. Voted for Wilcox. Quality man. Those who voted for the Chelsea badge-kisser should hang their heads in shame.
  5. Good shout 92er and many thanks for relieving my failing memory. Indeed we did buy Mike Harrison from Chelsea and sold him to the Pilgrims. As I said in my previous post I used to love watching Mike but still my vote just has to go to Duffer. The best accolade I can give him is that he would go straight into any Brazilian side including the great team of 1970. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Duff in probably the greatest international team of all time ??? I don't think so matey !! Rivelino and Jairzino eat your heart out !
  6. The match against Spurs that will forever remain in my memory was the 7-2 drubbing we gave them at Ewood in the early 70's against a very classy Spurs side that included the great Jimmy Greaves. What a day!!!! One of the best Rovers performances I have ever seen. We were 3-0 up in about 20 minutes (Andy McEvoy hat-trick ?) but Jimmy Greaves pulled two goals back before half-time. In the second half Rovers tore Tottenham apart with four more goals. Fantastic day. On the downside, I saw Rovers beaten 4-0 at White Hart Lane in 1965-66 in our relegation season as we went from potential champions to demotion in two seasons. Sound familiar ?
  7. Brotherston was mainly a left winger. Strange appearance with his prematurely balding pate but bamboozled second division defences with lovely skills and made many a goal for Garner in the 1980s. Joined Rovers on a free transfer from Tottenham if I remember correctly; regular for Northern Ireland when they had a good team (did he play at the 1982 Spain World Cup ?) and certainly a contender for the all-time team. We've had some good left wingers over the years (is Ally Macleod on the list ??) and I've enjoyed watching them all. Langton is a legend among older Rovers followers, Harrison had power and pace and a thunderous shot, and Wagstaffe, although in his declining years, had a left foot made in heaven. For me, though, the most under-rated and best of them all is Jason Wilcox for his outstanding service to the club from 1989-99 and vital contributions to the promotion- winning team of 1991-92 and the championship team of 1994-95. Ask Shearer who he'd like on the wing serving the ball up on a plate. Wilcox gets my vote.
  8. Amen to that, though I suspect the the spotty faced brigade have already made up their minds.
  9. Not sure about Garner, Chesh. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Duff was one, if not the best left winger, but does that make him great? Don't forget it was wilcox that was part of the title winning side, not duff. Not sure about Duff either. I can think of a left-winger far more deserving of "great" status, and he's from the modern (post 1930) era too.
  10. Disagree that Sherwood is our most "famous export" to Tottenham. Amazingly, football history does go farther back than 1990. That particular accolade must go to Mike England, the best centre half in Britain for ten years and voted in an all-time Tottenham greats team by the club's supporters. Never liked Tottenham and would dearly love to beat them but we're due a setback after five unbeaten games. Tottenham to win 2-1 with the quicksilver Defoe continuing his habit of scoring against our leaden-footed defenders.
  11. Teasing little quote from Andrew Cole: "But it wasn't looking possible that he [souness] would move on in the summer because the board - or anyone else - weren't prepared to do it. In other words, the general feeling at the club was that Souness should be given the boot but the board took the easy option and did nothing. Either way, Cole's gone and we miss him. I've given my top set a special clean for the paparazzi tomorrow. Can't wait to see my piccy in the papers !
  12. What's a chuffin' Nottingham Forest fan doing on our messageboard ?? I note that Forrest is well ahead - keep up the good work chaps.
  13. Missing the point as usual. My own feelings about Andrew Cole as a player are irrelevant. My only concern is for the good name of Blackburn Rovers and us, the supporters, who will be the focus of national media attention on Saturday. The perception around the country now is that Blackburn is a racist club and that Rovers fans are all like Perryman. It is up to us to show the world at the Fulham match that we are not. The best way we can do this is by showing our support for Andrew Cole. And if you don't think every London-based photographer with Premiership accreditation will be pointing a camera at Rovers fans on Saturday, then I suggest you get your head out of the Daily Mail leader page and get down to Craven Cottage. And take your black shirt off before you smile for the birdie.
  14. The poor mite ! Better than Flowers I suppose.
  15. Irrelevant. This is a vote for all-time great players.
  16. Read this: http://www.btinternet.com/~dajaca/jforrest.htm Forrest was a "God", one of the Rovers immortals. Sherwood was a Borehamwood yob. End of story.
  17. Very good ! Are you a scriptwriter for Peter Kay ?
  18. Two men were tonight charged over alleged racist abuse aimed at Birmingham City footballer Dwight Yorke during a match against Blackburn Rovers, police said. David Ashcroft, 21, from Leyland in Lancashire, and Jason Perryman, 22, from Chorley in Lancashire, were each charged with a racially aggravated public order offence. The pair are due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court at 10am tomorrow
  19. With all due respect , Jim doesn't have a good point . Inordinate cheering for Cole would only be pandering to the very forces (the media and the PC brigade) who have unfairly heeped such unwarranted disgrace upon the club over the last few days. It's no good complaining about these low life and then advocate sucking up to them in the hope that they'll give us a couple of lines of good "PR" . Personally I wouldn't cheer this overgrown kid if I was paid . Fair enough for those who rated him but to go overboard just because he's black is a form of racism in itself . Madness is taking over I tell you ......madness Nothing to do with pandering. It's about trying to restore the reputation and good name of Blackburn Rovers destroyed by two so-called fans with whom you seem to empathise. Unwarranted, unfair or not, the club is now seen as racist. After the events of this week, it would not take much to give a rousing cheer to a former player who just happens to be black.
  20. O’NEILL: “LENNON’S BEEN RACIALLY ABUSED” By Chris Roberts, PA Sport in Barcelona Celtic manager Martin O’Neill tonight accused the Rangers supporters of racially abusing Neil Lennon during Saturday’s Old Firm derby. The Northern Irishman’s outburst was triggered by a question over his own post-match actions after the 2-0 defeat at Ibrox. O’Neill was criticised for being “provocative” after he led Lennon to the travelling contingent and repeatedly punched the air following the stormy match. And he claimed to have no regrets over the incident, instead complaining about the treatment his fellow countryman - who is being investigated by police over some of his own actions - received. O’Neill compared the abuse of the Rangers fans to the Spaniards who targeted England’s black international stars in last Wednesday’s friendly in Madrid. The Bhoys boss said: “What should I regret? I go to the away fans every fortnight with the players and nothing has been said before. “I think this is the first time we have been beaten away from home in 18 months and nobody has picked up on that at all.” He claimed: “I applauded the crowd because the support was fantastic - and because Neil Lennon was abused from start to finish I think I had a right to show some support. “He was verbally abused in a racial and sectarian manner. There has been a lot of talk about racism in football recently which was very prevalent after the incident in Madrid. “Neil Lennon was subjected to this from start to finish - and it reached an incredible crescendo at the end.”
  21. 1 POLICE Yorke TWO ARRESTS OVER DWIGHT YORKE ABUSE By Pat Hurst, PA Two men have been arrested over racist abuse aimed at footballer Dwight Yorke during a match at Blackburn Rovers, Lancashire Police said today. Both suspects, in their early 20s, went to Blackburn police station voluntarily today at 4pm. It followed a nationwide appeal to find the culprits who taunted Yorke with monkey chants and other racist abuse. The two went to the police station and were arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offence. Yorke, who plays for Birmingham City, made a complaint to police after Sunday’s Premiership match at Blackburn’s Ewood Park. The suspects were captured on TV and pictured in newspapers hurling abuse at the player. Lancashire Police said the pair contacted police following the appeal and arranged to come to the station and were now being interviewed. A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Two men in their early 20s have been arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offence following an incident at Ewood Park on Sunday.” She added, “Det Inspector Simon Giles and Det Sgt Gary Dunnagan, from Blackburn CID, met with Mr Yorke and other members of the club earlier today at Birmingham City’s training ground where they interviewed a number of people over several hours.”
  22. That's not how the rest of the country sees us unfortunately. The mud has stuck.
  23. The plot thickens. Sullivan is obviously using this rumpus as a lever to force Yorke out of St Andrew's. Perhaps he's tired of watching an ineffective disinterested player too.
  24. My point exactly, and all the while calling for us to have signed Hartson. Oooh wait a mo' Hartsons white and Cole is Bl.... Nah it couldn't be. You're missing the point I'm trying (and obviously failing) to make. Thanks to those two "fans" on Sunday, Rovers are now seen as a racist club with racist supporters and by supporting Andrew Cole the Fulham match gives us the chance to show the nation that we are not. Or perhaps you think we should boo Cole because he is one of our former players ? In view of events at the Birmingham game, and with the press and TV cameras watching, I don't think that would be a good idea, do you ?
  25. This is a "no-brainer", as our American cousins would say. Forrest it is.
