Bloody hell. You must be an observational guy.

You have managed to determine a blokes character, determination and the respect he has from others by watching him perform some pre-match drills.

Was it the way he threw the cones down that had you deduce he had no personality?

When you go to football matches anywhere, whether it be Brockhall, Ewood, Leyland etc, you look to see what's going on.

You don't need to be Einstein to see which managers / coaches fizz and which fall into the mogadon category.  Look at the drills, how innovative, how sparky, how do the players respond.

but is he a good goalkeeper coach.

Someone like Bobby Mimms was a good goalkeeper coach. Look at his work with Paul Robinson to regain his confidence.

But if Benson wasn't good enough why would Mowbray keep him in that role?

IMO, for similar reasons that Waggott keeps Mowbray in his role!!!

Mowbray, Venus, Lowe and Benson, IMO, all need binning.

Mourinho ,along with others, never played professional football. Have ye seen the guy coach? Otherwise what's this opinion based on?

Seen him at Brockhall and seen his pre match drills.

IMO, the guy has no personality, presence, bounce or drive.  I think he is way, way out of his depth.  From observations, I think Raya had little respect for him.

  4. Yep. money on Luton for this one.

A MUST WIN game for Luton who will be too hungry and have too much desire for us - a great result for them yesterday.

Best thing Mowbray can do is pick a team with players with things to prove and who will bust a gut for us.  Tear into them from first whistle and give it a feckin good go.  Sadly, Mowbray being Mowbray, I doubt he will do this.

I'd go with: Hilton or Fisher / Nyambe, Carter, Lenihan, Thompson / Chapman, Travis, Rothwell, Rankin-Costello / Brereton, Armstrong

Jamie Vardy came up that way also but I suspect he's got more desire and pure will to win than Armstrong, There's no lost causes with Vardy.

Think Vardy is a far more intelligent and technically better footballer.

Sees a picture, takes up great positions, time his runs and has a surprisingly very good first touch.

You could be right about that, but I'm really surprised how his all round game has come on this year.

12 months ago I was worrying whether he was a luxury at this level, pace and a good finish but not much else. Now he's just an excellent all round attacker, capable of running at players, scoring from both feet from anywhere, setting goals up. Might need to keep up the progress to get to the top flight as a starter, but I wouldn't write him off at his age.

Has improved and needed to as, IMO, looked a League One player out of his depth.

Huge step up to PL for an attacking player.  Compare him to most of the PL attacking players and, IMO, he's still miles off the mark.  IMO, not an intelligent footballer.

    Thanks for the link Matty

Hope they lose and go down.

If he goes there he is mad.

Exactly. We don't any ex Burnley players  or managers taking over here. Keep away from Rovers

    Don't be so feckin stupid.

Just imagine, you are in hospital, lying in a bed and fighting for your life and the one consultant who can save you is a Burnley fan................

I don't give a monkey's about race, colour, creed, religion or football allegiance - can they do a feckin job and improve you.  If the answer is yes, then bring them in!

As you say they'll be fishing in a bigger pool now. Lenihan's too rough around the edges to make it at top level at the moment.

At 26 not sure he'll improve enough for PL.

IMO, decent Championship player - full stop.

Travis has a season to prove he COULD make the step up - though surprising how younger players 'level out'.

Armstrong, IMO, technically not good enough for PL.  Will be a very good Championship player.

    He’s a wanker

Where has he failed as a manager?

Southport, Sligo, Stanley, Chesterfield, Portsmouth and Wigan - not glamour clubs but learnt his trade the hard way.  Done a good job at each before moving on to a better opportunity.

If he's a w@nker, dread to think what that makes Mowbray.

i remember kevin hird from when my dad first started taking me to the footy,he used to fly up and down the wing, did`nt he go to leeds for big money??and then obviously an ignominious end to his career when he finished off playing for the dingles

Yep, Hird went to Leeds for about £440,000 and Bailey went to Everton for about £300,000.  Forty+ years ago, those were sizeable fees.

The Hird, Fazackerly, Waddington, Bailey back four played together quite often in the 1977-78 season.

Hird and Bailey were a delight to watch as an attacking force as they ripped defences apart down their flanks.  Happy memories!

  12. As I posted earlier, this win as an inevitability - thanks lads, will keep my wine rack nicely stocked with my winnings!

Sadly, I couldn't watch the match due to work commitments.

However, delighted that Carter got a chance and seemed to impress.

Also delighted with Chapman's apparent 'cameo'.  Have been arguing on here for some time that this lad has real ability.  He just needs a bit of tlc and an opportunity to be let off the leash.  Hopefully, even Mowbray might have seen the light!

What seems absolutely clear is the need for a new goalkeeper.  IMO, Brighton's fourth choice is a dolloper who should have no place in our team.

    Cheers!

Mowbray and Venus have nearly two years left on their contracts and I would be surprised if the joint cost of the pair of them was less than a million a year so that is two million straight up before you get on to the myriad of other individuals that you want to get shot of. Given what you have said about the finances of the club and the owners at the moment it looks like a tall order.

In the course of my work across industry and commerce (including sport), I've seen, and been involved in, a fair old number of contract settlements / terminations and only the naive would settle in full; there are exceptions of course eg on compassionate, health grounds etc.

Its yourself changing the goalposts Mercer.

    Have a good day betting

Goal posts not changed Chaddy!  You need to read the content more carefully (as you often advise others!).

Three bets today and a good start: Newbury 13.05 Guru, won at 8/1, Rovers at just better than evens and Ennistymon at 7/2 in the Irish Oaks tonight.  Already, well in pocket for the day with more to come I expect!  Cheers!

Needs to give some game time to one or 2 of the young lads who might play more next season.

    Davenport also needs to start.

They need to start not 'game time' which under Mowbray could be as little as ten minutes.

Give the lads a fair chance, play them from the start and let them get into the rhythm of the game.

so you keep saying year after year. We all remember your posts of this 'tipping point'. Maybe you are a fan of the show with Ben Sheppard that much

In all honest Mercer we don't have a clue what their opinions or plans for the club are cos they won't speak to the fans

wait a second it was a Million yesterday?

    Being selective again Chaddy!

Read that post again and read what I posted today - there is a difference!

Yet you consistently call for firings of practically every member of senior management at the club for which the bill would run in to millions of pounds - why do you think that is affordable in the present circumstances ?

Where on earth do you get £millions from?

You reach an agreement with Mowbray who would be the biggest cost and, at worse, if you have had to pay up the contracts of Waggott and Mowbray's coaching staff. I think you would do it all for less than £2million (substantially less than the wages of all the playing deadwood that should be shown the door this summer).

The question is - can Rovers afford NOT to do it?

IMO, we are not progressing as a club, in fact I think we are going backwards and our playing squad, come next week, will be threadbare, unbalanced and have limited genuine quality (so much for Mowbray's slow build upon solid foundations).  We have to stop haemorrhaging huge amounts of money year after year and you can only achieve that if the club is successful (both results and player trading wise)  and genuinely moves forward and gets stronger every year (look at Burnley).

What value has Waggott added to Rovers?

Are we really better off after three and a half years of Mowbray?

As I said, IMO,  Rovers can not afford NOT to do it otherwise the steady and consistent drift towards the financial abyss will become a  surge and who knows what an insolvency would bring and where we would end up.

The Wigan Administrator Krasner acknowledge that the wage bill at the DW Stadium – comparatively low by Championship standards, but which represents a whopping 168 per cent of the turnover in the last set of published accounts – was proving a little bit of a hindrance.

“A little bit? It’s £12million,” he replied. “It will be reduced to what we need to finish the season.

“And it’s causing a problem for potential buyers – a big, big problem.

They’re not just buying a football club, they’re buying a loss-making football club.”

    https://www.wigantoday.net/sport/football/priority-get-best-price-wigan-athletic-says-optimistic-administrator-2914997

Frightening similarities for Rovers - hasn't our wage bill over the last three sets of accounts averaged close on 160% of turnover!?

I think Rovers are in big trouble and when the final ball of the season has been kicked next Wednesday night, to use one of Mowbray's often used sayings, 'let's see what happens'.
