alexanders Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Surprise surprise. Old pals act from the ex-pros on Setanta with Sherwood defending Terry and McManaman saying Osman dived. Ridiculous. The commentator - Craig something had the opinion that Dowd was spot on with the sending off.

LeChuck Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Surprise surprise. Old pals act from the ex-pros on Setanta with Sherwood defending Terry and McManaman saying Osman dived. Ridiculous. I'm not aware that either have played with John Terry, or even know him. I don't quite know what you're getting at.
nicko Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 It's a red card but Dowd consulted the fourth official. He did the same in a game last season - can't remember what one. The guy is a joker. Villa for the Premier League!

Villa for the Premier League! He booked Balack for asking a question with regards the wall at a free kick - dowd paced the distance, returned and booked the player. Dowd is plonker.
jodrell Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Did Rovers sighn somebody who had played in the chmpions league and then play in the UEFA cup either last season or the season before? Samba or RSC,

herbergeehh Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Did Rovers sighn somebody who had played in the chmpions league and then play in the UEFA cup either last season or the season before? Samba or RSC, Is that a question? Santa Cruz has played Champions League football for FC Bayern.. Putting a fiver on Aston Villa for the fun of it, none of the so-called big four looks up for it at the moment.
thenodrog Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Sunderland takeover by Ellis Short imminent Yet again rich overseas money men to the rescue. I'm not sure that it's entirely a good thing but it would appear that the main criteria for attracting investment is a huge prospective fan base. I wonder how we would ever achieve that? I guess LU being the only way forward.
Rover4ever Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 The only reason Villa wont win the league is that they dont have a proper 20 goal a season striker. Otherwise I wouldnt count against them
Hughesy Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I can think of a couple more. Villa are not consistent enough....also they dont have enough experience among their ranks to win the title. Its a Chelsea or United title again this time.
philipl Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 If Villa strengthen judiciously in January with three top drawer buys then they are very real contenders in a season in which everyone of the Big 4 has issues. They certainly have the Manager and the spine of a side to win it.
LeChuck Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Without a top striker they won't do it, they'll draw far too many games when they get tighter towards the end of the season.
Bobby G Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 An injury to Agbonlahor or Young and they arent the same. Their squad is small and unless they strengthen they wont last and even if they do last, they have to overtake another 3 teams probably, and that wont happen.
Hughesy Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Cant believe anyone can think Villa will win it... they are just not good enough. They are just in a good run, with alot of luck going their way (I.e. West Ham & Everton both last mins). They would do well to finish 3rd, never mind 1st.
thenodrog Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 They would do well to finish 3rd, never mind 1st. You sound disparaging! If you'd offered em that in August everybody connected with AV would have snapped your hand off. Never mind 3rd place finishing in 4th place would be a huge achievement.
philipl Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Would you change your mind if Bellamy and Defoe join up front and they recruit Hurst from Pompey and Falfouid from Feyenoord as brilliant young defensive back-ups? Bellamy and Defoe together will probably cost the same as Santa Cruz- Villa will probably sign all four for a total of about £26m.
Bobby G Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I will wager a bet with anyone that Villa will not finish higher than 4th at best, and would only overtake Arsenal if any of the Big Four. Most likely Arsenal will pick things up and finish 4th at the end, as despite their POOR run they are only a couple of points away from Villa who have been on their best run of the season already...
Hughesy Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Still not good enough if they signed all those 4. They need to strengthen the full backs, centre midfield and also they need to get another winger. Without Young they are nothing. Im sure they would be delighted with 3rd, my point is that they will never win the league with their current side. 5th is realistic, 4th is a possibilty, 3rd would be very tough.
philipl Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Let's see if they sign those two full backs and those two quick versatile forwards. Let's also see who Liverpool sell during the window and if Villa beat Arsenal over the Christmas period. Man U are only in four competitions and have two Premier League games in hand. Chelsea might come together or might not.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Fabreghastly is out for four months, huge blow to Le Arse.
Hughesy Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 They need to spend in Jan if they are to compete. They probably need to sign a Central Defender and now 2 midfielders
tcj_jones Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Omg, just seen Terry's challange. How on earth can he and Scolari feel aggrieved at a red card?! It's a horrendous challange and fully deservant of the card. Scolari's reaction is pathetic and, frankly, embarrassing.
