thelegend7 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko Its probably already been mentioned on here but if we assume that 1. Hughes uses Man City as a leverage to try to get Chelsea to bite 2. If Chelsea don't bite then Hughes feels he has burnt his boats and can't come back Do you think Mark Hughes actually has a geniune reason for wanting to go to City ? What do they have that he can't get at Rovers ? The money would buy the players at Blackburn and comes with "interference" strings. Can't just be UEFA cup ? Ronaldinho ???

Billy Castell Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Funny that both candidates on this two man shortlist are now unavailable. So.....................I expect Mancini to be in charge. Or Rijkaard. Or Scolari. Or Deschamps. Or Ricky Tomlinson.
Dan Furness Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko - any information about Ronaldo today ? work in Manchester so could do with cheering up
EwoodGlory Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Could probably throw something amongst the pigeons here.. but I'm sure I read so something posted somewhere that Rovers had enquired about Bruce at Wigan even before all this kicked off..... Is that not my fault? I was looking at a Derby forum on Sunday, and the rumour on there was that Rovers wanted Bruce to replace Hughes, but Wigan would only let it happen if Jewell went back to Wigan. I posted it in this thread, but it was followed by a
AlanSheppard Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Simon Grayson might be a decent outsider shout for manager. Doing a decent job at Blackpool, young and some links with Rovers already.
CircoWill Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 When are the fixtures announced? You just know our first one will be Man City away....... I'd heard Bruce mentioned as well - have we no ambition? Finding the Chelsea situation quite amusing - with Mourinho threatening to recruit some of their best players Fixtures are out on June 16th.
den Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Simon Grayson might be a decent outsider shout for manager. Doing a decent job at Blackpool, young and some links with Rovers already. Avoided relegation on the last day of the season, didn't they? You would see a grown man cry if we appointed him. He'd bring Tony Parks as his assistant, wouldn't he?
gbax Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Simon Grayson might be a decent outsider shout for manager. Doing a decent job at Blackpool, young and some links with Rovers already. Radio Lancs mentioned him but decided that he struggled to get quality players in last season after they were promoted to the championship (granted with a small budget) because he did not have a good network of contacts.
nellybc Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Simon Grayson might be a decent outsider shout for manager. Doing a decent job at Blackpool, young and some links with Rovers already. I just dont understand why we need to go for a young and inexperienced person at the top level in the game. I am all for a top man and grayson or anybody as his assistant. We finished in the top 10 this season in one of the best leagues in the world!! I am sure with our standing within the game, more appropriate managers would be beneficial to the club.
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Funny that both candidates on this two man shortlist are now unavailable. So.....................I expect Mancini to be in charge. Or Rijkaard. Or Scolari. Or Deschamps. Or Ricky Tomlinson. Mancini has been available - and been ignored. Rijkaard wants a break - if this goes on much longer he could have one. Scolari still strikes me as favourite, but that doesn't count for much. Deschamps has no sparkle. Tomlinson is interesting.
rover6 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Listen, son, I have had two long days... If you think you know more about how clubs appoint their managers and when a major force like Chelsea gets itself in total chaos because the owner and the heirarchy are pushing in different directions then feel free to spout forth. The day you get your next story will also be the day you get your first. Nicko, whether you've had two long days or not, that news was not sensational or even "quite sensational" as you claimed. If you genuinely think it is, then you've clearly lost perspective. We all knew that Abro's lackeys were touting Hughes to him and he wasn't sure. Now, thanks to you, we know that he hasn't been convinced by those entreaties and is set to wait for a bigger name. Interesting, important for Rovers, meaningful, substantial but not sensational. I'm only picking up on this because I value accuracy and that was far from accurate in my mind.
DanLad Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 work in Manchester so could do with cheering up Dan, I work in Manchester, too. Shall we hike up to the COMS and form a picket line?
Billy Castell Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 With the odds going up and down with the Chelsea manager, I expect a bolt out of the blue like when Souness moved to Newcastle. So I'll be the first to say that the next Chesea manager will be........................Steve Cotterill.

nellybc Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 We all knew that Abro's lackeys were touting Hughes to him. Well i did not, and would not have until nicko pitched in again. So thanks. In the world of the managerial merry go round, strikes me as sensational that a club with the stature of chelsea are being made a laughing stock.

We know that he's been using Man City as a pawn in his game to prompt Chelsea to act. We've all been waiting to see if it would happen - and it looked as though it might - only for Abramovich to decide he's going to wait, leaving Sparky high and dry with only Frank to turn to. I'd call that pretty sensational. Stick to talking about football buddy - you're pretty good at that. Needless sniping however is not your strong point. Leave that to Scotty.
Billy Castell Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I guess they are being seen as a second tier club with loads of money, and not a superclub like Man U, Real Madrid etc.

Roman falling out with Kenyon is never substantial but can, as Nicko points out, be sensational. Removed

I meant to but in the heat of the unsensational day that it was I forgot...
Flopsy Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Alan Mahon is a premiership class player So how much for Ronaldo? Come on I need to ruin a friends day, and he used to work at the Guardian.
Scotty Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 There is a theory that Chelsea have known who their new manager is going to be since Mourinho left - Gus Hiddink. However, as Hiddink has led Russia to the Euros Abramovich was unwilling to rock that particular boat until the tournament finished. So, they appointed Grant as a caretaker until the end of the season and will appoint Hiddink as soon as Russia are knocked out of the Euros. No idea if the theory is true but it's looking more plausible by the day.
