tony gale's mic Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Shearer deserved all he got. If he comes back it's water under the bridge but at the time he looked after himself and left Rovers in a very lousy position right at the start of the season. He kept no-one at Ewood aware of his intentions despite the fact we practically threw away any chance of a uefa cup spot in order to allow him to be fit for Euro96. Yes he was exception and won us the league. It doesn't hide the fact he still left in a far, far worse and unscrupulous situation than Lucas Neill. I wonder if you boo'd Lucas? That's absolute rubbish. The first part to be fair none of us were behind the scenes and he might have not known his intentions himself. And Lucas Neill left to join a club because they paid him more, Shearer left to join his boyhood club and picked them over Man Utd, we can't begrudge him of that.

Hasta Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 One horse is still running remember... One horse is now 5/2 fovourite again on Betfair again. Even regardless of Nickos comments I think this job could well be Scolari's. If it was Rijkaard or Mancini they'd be employed by now. Either that or someone who's not been strongly linked yet.

I'm not talking about motives to leave. I'm talking about the way they treated Rovers. As for the operation so he could be fit for Euro96, that's fairly common knowledge. He was playing through the pain and could easily have waiting until the end of the season for the op. Most other seasons he would have done.

Most other seasons he would have done. I'm sure it was...but who says he knew what his intentions were before he had the operation? I doubt he did, considering he came and asked Kenny for his advice in that summer of 96. It may have been going through his mind but I'm sure he hadn't already decided.
Hasta Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Don't get me wrong. If he returns as manager I'll be in a Shearer Wonderland as much as the next man. It's just I think iamrover is wrong that his booing was dispicable. If he'd been Australian with a goatie he'd have got murdered.
tony gale's mic Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Don't get me wrong. If he returns as manager I'll be in a Shearer Wonderland as much as the next man. It's just I think iamrover is wrong that his booing was dispicable. If he'd been Australian with a goatie he'd have got murdered. But like I said, the reasons are entirely different. If he returns I actually won't be in a Shearer wonderland, well I'd back him but I'd be very disappointed we picked him. But Lucas came to us from Millwall, didnt really have any other options, was a decent enough performer, and then left to join a club considerably lower in the league for us, risking getting relegated just for more money. Shearer chose us over Man United, came, won the title with us and was a model professional during his time here. When he left he turned down Man Utd again who I'm sure were offering more money, or at least as much anyway, to join his boyhood club. So basically your only gripe is with him having the operation and not telling us, but who said he had already decided that he was going to leave? And can you blame him for wanting to be fit for what would be, and probably was, the pinnacle of his career along with winning the title?

vintageadidas Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Interesting how many players AVFC have been linked with. Here
tony gale's mic Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Interesting how many players AVFC have been linked with. Here That's very odd, an official website publishing rumours about the club like that.
krislu Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 One question to all the Shearer/Ince fans; Why the hell should we appoint a manager on the basis that the person once was a good football player? FFS, its like appointing a dentist because he has bloody nice looking teeths!!

imarover Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Santa Snr http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/280084903?-11198 from the same site: Blackburn preparing for Hughes departure since January - Williams "We had a first taste of this in January, when the Newcastle job cropped up," Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "That sets your mind running and I would be lying if I said the thought process didn't start after that. and Blackburn chairman confident keeping best players away from Man City

Heinz Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 According to dutch press: Henk ten Cate will sign for Panathinaikos because and here it comes... ......... he refuses to wait on Blackburn. Candidate number B gentlemen... its right here (in dutch)
roversmum Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Anyone notice the clever phrasing of this sentence by John Williams: "The new manager, when he's appointed, will get exactly the same level of support as Mark always had on all player related issues." He'll likely not be getting that sort of support at Man City.................. Anyway, Mark is history now. The right choice to take Rovers forward is imperative.
Heinz Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Quick translation perhaps: Panathinaiko are about to sign Henk ten Cate. The greek club and a spokesperson from dutch coach agreed on a two-year contract on high-level terms. Last part: Besides Panathinaikos, Blackburn Rovers approached Henk ten Cate. But he refuses to wait for an incoming offer.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I don't think candidate B is is Ten Cate. The guy is an idiot and an extremely volatile character, he seems to fall out with players at every club he goes to.
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Candidate B...Lesson 1...never sit on a pigging story... Some info for you. Paul Ince has told Leicester City that he will take their job on Tuesday 'when he gets back from holiday.' I think he is stalling for time in case Rovers like him. I believe Sam Allardyce is way down the list. I will know more about Alan Shearer by the start of next week. He was with the BBC in Austria or Switzerland yesterday, so he certainly wasn't at Brockhall. So things are moving along well. On Chelsea - which I obviously don't have a clue about - Peter Kenyon flew to Italy last night to speak to someone. He is scurrying around Europe to talk to people while Roman rejects most of his ideas. Looks like he might have to get used to collecting runners-up medals...

He's not a rip snorter is he. did anyone ever know quite what he did at chelsea?
bringdunnback Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Well Henk Ten Cate fits the bill, part of the coaching team that played sexy football at Barca, current free agent and is foreign. To be honest if it's him and he goes to Panathanaikos, I'll be relieved.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Well if Ten Cate is going to Panathanaikos that means Laudrup is still a free agent. I'm not sure on Ince, i think it would be a big gamble. I think he may well be a very good manager one day but i think its too early for him to make the step up. Shearer i'm still not convinced he is the right choice. Allardyce, i'm still totally opposed to him being our next manager. I hope Nicko is right and he is well down the list.
philipl Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Tribal not the most reliable of sources but is that JW comment code for some sort of hands off element in the settlement between Rovers and city? The Roque stuff is yesterday's story isn't it? The Henk ten Cate comment is possibly significant- both from the standing of the guy "not willing to wait for Rovers" and the implications which follow. I guess Rovers might have had enough with irrational shouters when Souness was with us but it clearly means that Rovers are very competitive with Panathanaikos on managerial pay and conditions which in turn means that Michael Laudrup must be very much in the frame if both he and the Rovers are interested.
dellinsert Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Candidate B...Lesson 1...never sit on a pigging story... Ten Cate or Ginola?
