Cheeky Sidders Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Now that romantic dreams of Shearer's return are finally quashed (personally, I'm disappointed), we can console ourselves with the knowledge that whoever does get it will at least have some experience. Who to pick? Eeh, I'm buggered if I know, I just know that I'll be probably be content with anyone except for McClaren and Fat Crooked Sam.

alexanders Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I would like Rovers to scout Johann Vonlanthen in the swiss team.
Hasta Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Nicko hasn't got everything right on here, I think a few people might be losing on the two-horse safe bet that was suggested. One horse is still running remember... One horse has just stormed home. Thank you very much Nicko. That pays for a few more full tanks of petrol!
tony gale's mic Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Couple of questions nicko: 1. Do you think Allardyce is the most likely to get it? 2. Will ten cate definitely be interviewed? 3. Do you think the board will know/take into account that the fans will be very much against BFS? Sorry nicko, I know this thread moves fast and there's certain things you can't tell us but any chance you could cast more of a light on these things?
liam Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 well if chelsea have big phil, theres no way we can have big sam. The league is not big enough for the both of them! big steak eat off at ewood next season then
brfc_jonesy Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I know he aint a bad manager but he hasn't been in club football since 2001 and has never managed a european club side.....be interesting to see how he does talking about scolari, sorry lads
hawkiiz Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 ten Cate's track record of succeeding with smaller clubs is even better than Fat Sam's. how?
Iceman Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Nicko any further development,on the exclusivity period for Chris Ronnie and his goons?
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Am I the only one on here thats happy with Shearer turning us down? Nope - I've thought all along that the 3 strongest alledged candidates were Bilic, Advocaat and Laudrup. If none of those are on the shortlist, then Tan Cate would definitely be my refereed choice. In terms of Shearer, 'bottled it' is an excellent description. Unless he's expecting to be offered the England post in the future, I can't see him ever being offered a Premiership post again.
Presty On Tour Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 big steak eat off at ewood next season then could be tasty! could do with a steak and cheese baguette right now, I'm marvin!
alexanders Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I think we will see Quaresma on the Bridge next season. Any markets on that?
nicko Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 One horse has just stormed home. Thank you very much Nicko. That pays for a few more full tanks of petrol! A pleasure shared...
liam Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 could be tasty! could do with a steak and cheese baguette right now, I'm marvin! ooohh not before bed
spencey7 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Thank the Lord for Nicko's piece of good news to compliment the bad about Shearer. SHAM ALLARDYCE Teams managed: 1991–1992 Limerick 1994–1996 Blackpool 1997–1999 Notts County 1999–2007 Bolton Wanderers 2007–2008 Newcastle United Honours: Fourth division title with Notts County (1998) HENK TEN CATE Teams managed: 1990-1990 Go Ahead Eagles 1990-1992 SC Heracles 1992-1993 FC Rheden 1993-1995 Go Ahead Eagles 1995-1997 Sparta Rotterdam 1997-1998 Vitesse 1998-1999 KFC Uerdingen 05 1999-2000 MTK Hungária FC 2000-2003 NAC Breda 2003-2006 FC Barcelona (assistant) 2006-2007 Ajax 2007-2008 Chelsea F.C. (assistant) Honours: Hungarian Cup (2000) La Liga (2004, 2005) Champions League (2006) Dutch Super-Cup [the Johan Cruijff-schaal] (2006, 2007) KNVB Cup (2007) Ten Cate has more experience than Allardyce in the UEFA Cup, Champions League and all over Europe. This appointment will ultimately come down to how Blackburn Rovers Football Club see's itself in the coming years. Will it be about economy, survival (hopefully) and "accepting our station"? Or about daring to dream what this small town club could achieve? I desperately hope the latter, but hugely fear the former - Especially after Nicko's "narrow escape" comment. Any way of forming an anti-Allardyce picket line tomorrow..?
EwoodGlory Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Shearer Winning £120 on Scolari isn't even cheering me up tonight, thanks for the tip though Nicko. I wonder if Scotty backed him
bats Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Have you find out anymore, Nicko regarding the postion of Laudrup in the race to be manager?

tony gale's mic Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Only thing that worries me about ten Cate is his short stays at every club he's managed. Noone has picked up on this yet and it has to be commented on. Nevertheless, he's easily the outstanding candidate in the field, unless Laudrup decides to show his face. I'm glad Shearer is out of the running and I trust our board to make the right decision.
leftfooter Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hopefully the fact tha tnobody likes him will outweigh his "dazzling" ProZone knowledge. Hey; nothing outweigh's BFS
alexanders Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Any way of forming an anti-Allardyce picket line tomorrow..? Can you put up an anti-sam banner somewhere?
nicko Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Have you find out anymore, Nicko regarding the postion of Laudrup in the race to be manager? I like the guy and wish I could tell you something...but he has not come across my radar during all of this. Could be a runner, I just don't know.
philipl Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Nifty bit of news management by Shearer- getting his rejection of Rovers out 10 minutes before the Big Phil/Chelsea announcement. I bet the BBC were in on the know out there and Shearer siezed his chance to avoid being number 1 negative headline. Thinking about it, I wouldn't be suprised if JW found out Shearer's definitive decision watching the Turkey v Switzerland game like the rest of us.
USRoverME Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 One thought kept coming into my head as I read that last 10 pages or so.... 6-2 Arsenal. That match was when Sparky realized that trying to play football with the top 4 will get you killed, unless you have equally skilled players. Rovers don't have the financial muscle to get the technically gifted players to challenge Arsenal, Manure, Pool and Chelski in the class department. Funny, Hughes is now somehwere where he may have the cash to get those players of quality. If we want to go toe to toe with the big boys, challenge them, and win a fair enough share to be in europe, we have to play a different way. I understand the ideal of wanting to see "pretty" football from our side, but I think it would be counter productive. I'm not BFS's biggest admirer, but he's safe and will keep us alive in teh prem. Ten Cate I think is a step above BFS in that I think he can get the lads to play solid when needed and then play with class when facing Derby and the like. I also don't think losing shearer is a big deal. He was a wildcard, a complete unkown in terms of managemetn and all that comes with it. In fact, the notion that he'd rather sit in a booth instead of one the sidelines makes me glad he didn't get the job. I think all those who were banging on about his "desire to win" may find out that its not exactly what you thought it was basd on this. He may have had it as a player, but it may be gone.
simcla Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 After reading Ten Cates mangerial history above, one thing struck me, he doesn't seem to stay in any job for very long..... Sorry Tony Gales Mic, I just had the same thought as you!
toonfan Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 shearer's going to have to step into a job soon, or he wont be asked again. i love the man, bu ti think he has bottled your job
