RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Its imperative in terms of the next manager that we get it right. We aren't like other clubs who can in the worst case scenario get in a new manager in january to replace one that has failed and give them a load of cash in order to sort the club out. I'm sure Williams who is prudent and has been a great chairman for this club will have some serious and strong contenders in mind. Its a very worrying time to be a Rovers fan And Nicko what i said earlier about the Chris Ronnie with City links and being offered with a job there, possible takeoever ruse in order to speak to sparky is a load of rubbish?

modes98 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Modes98, dear, might I respectfully suggest in the interest of Rovers that you don't go on holiday in future? Sorry miss. Got another one coming up end of July so that'll be when Bentley leaves!
novella Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 just look at the situation as a new era for the club. This has obviously crossed the chairman's mind for a while now. i have seen people talking about hughes leaving for a few weeks on here now. am i right in thinking hughes is one of the highest paid managers in football? that alone makes this club attractive to good managers. losing hughes is a blow but this time in two weeks we could have someone whos regarded as an excellent manager.
philipl Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I would assume these have already been decided so I couldn't see it holding things up too much, just a case of meeting with Hughes to confirm and get his signature. In any case it will all have been sorted by the end of the week I am sure. We'll just have to take it on the chin and move on. We've done it before. But City have only just asked Rovers formally so it is very unlikely those terms have been agreed in advance with City. The one thing we surely have learnt from Rovers under John Williams' direction is that the club doesn't say a lot officially but when it does it is accurate and well thought through.
Biddy Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Sorry miss. Got another one coming up end of July so that'll be when Bentley leaves! No, that's expected. More likely RSC. Cancel the holiday now.
nicko Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Is this a good time to start a Coyley for Rovers campaign?
den Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 just look at the situation as a new era for the club. That's the only way to go. Our club goes forward.
American Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Every single penny staked on the Betfair Next Man City Manager is on Mark Hughes...and I mean every single penny. Something smells. But that also means that there is someone (or are people) who are taking the bets....
Martin Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Well. Not the start to the day that many of us had hoped for. There was a part of me that never believed any of the Chelsea and Man City rumours in the hope that it would all just blow over. Clearly, that was wishful thinking. Still, I do find it strange that he would talk to Man City. Their set-up represents everything that is bad about foreign investment. I'm suprised City is an 'attractive' club for him. The important issue now is the name of our next manager. I can't look further than Sam Allardyce. Some have already voiced their disaproval. But he is EXACTLY what we need. He can keep a team up on a limited budget and consistently qualified for Europe. He came very close to Champions League football a time or two. Regardless of what people may think of his style or personality he has the ingredients to best ensure we progress.....
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 It doesn't detract from my anger, but i want Hughes to go to Chelsea rather than City who i see as one of our main rivals in the league. I hope Chelsea make a move and end this sorry saga
Biddy Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 This has obviously crossed the chairman's mind for a while now. i have seen people talking about hughes leaving for a few weeks on here now. That's a good point and I wonder if it also gets back to Hughes that for EVERY job that seems to come up, we all say, "yep, he's off, too good for us" (Apart from City!)
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 i think the important thing is that whoever is the manager and whoever's in the starting 11 next season, the fans back them with all their heart, thats the important thing. I support the club, not individual players or people.

I hope Chelsea make a move and end this sorry saga So do i, put a tenner on him the other day at 7/1!!! I seriously think he will go to chelsea as they will make an approach soon. Can now get odds of 10-1 on stan james and bet direct!!

Mozzer Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 see what the chance of spending lots of money does for a manager..if the trustee's or whoever involved in giving mark hughes money for transfers were more generous maybe we wouldnt be in this situation.. losing mark hughes to someone like chelsea or man utd-theres nothing you can do about it , but losing a manager to man city would be really disappointing.. i guess mark hughes just wants the chance to spend some money..
EwoodGlory Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Is this a good time to start a Coyley for Rovers campaign? Better than Big Sam, least you would have the exclusives on all deals
Eddie Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 No Mozzer, according to 80% of this messageboard and virtually all of the "big boys" on the site new investment is not important or required.
tony gale's mic Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 If Hughes takes this job then he deserves our complete disapproval next time he brings a team to Ewood Park. Take the Chelsea job and we would have applauded him, he's done a good job here and we couldn't argue with him joining them. But take the City job - with them finishing lower in the league and a maniac of a chairman just smacks of a lack of loyalty and a contempt for our club.

But he is EXACTLY what we need. He can keep a team up on a limited budget and consistently qualified for Europe. My only problem with him is that we will play the most boring football imaginable and not get flair players like Bentley, Rocky, MGP, etc. We've all seen notlob and Newcastle under him, it's just long ball and my season ticket wouldn't have been renewed under his charge.
Guest Kamy100 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Great shame that he has done a superb job for us. While it is a big blow I have firm faith in the board and that they will make the right appointment, no individual is bigger than the club and we WILL bounce back from this.

vintageadidas Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I think having little money to spend has made him the manager he is and the reputation he has built up. If he had spent £50m and we finished 7th, he doesnt look as good a manager as when we spend £2m nett and finish 7th. Keane and Sanchez spent around £70 million between then last season, money is not everything. The board back the manager as much as they can. You cannot give what you do not have.
