socngill Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Should try saying that to a Turk or a Greek Nah. I'll just mention it to a few Cypriots

Presty On Tour Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Mimms is held in high regard at Wolves. Taken from the expressandstar.com But it was Hennessey who took the main award as well as the Player’s Player of the Year – and that triggered an impromptu tribute from McCarthy when he strode back on stage during the awards ceremony. “Last year, Matt Murray won this award and was named in the Championship’s team of the season,” said McCarthy. “This year Wayne Hennessey has done the same – and I think it’s a good time to give a mention to our goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms. “He must be doing something right! He does a fantastic job and gets very little credit for it.”

Probably never shook off the "Booby Mimms" tag he earned at Spurs but he was outstanding for us in the promotion season and decent in our first prem season.
gumboots Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 From LET and John Williams: “It was a constructive session and I’ll now be discreetly pursuing a number of transfer targets,” added the Rovers chairman. Well time to roll on silly season with speculation! Note the word discreetly. Whoever it is we're pursuing Nicko will obviously have to be on his toes to keep us informed.
nicko Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 Note the word discreetly. Whoever it is we're pursuing Nicko will obviously have to be on his toes to keep us informed. I think we should let them decide who they want first...and I don't think they are at that stage yet. There are probably four or five options for both the right back position and the attacking midfield position.
Baggio Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 yeah, but it doesn't mean anyone's going to meet the price ... Perhaps that's the point.

Went to Villa away on a Monday night 1st season in the Prem and Bobby was the MOM. Superb string of saves.
Eddie Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 At the moment the trustees are treating our club like a house you've owner for 20 years. There are a few problems with the roof, could do with some painting and general touch-ups and you aren't sure whether you can be bothered. You then decide to put it on the market for what you think is a fair price and plenty of people visit, but no one puts in a bid. Now you have two choices, you either drop the value because you want to move on, or you decide to dig in and do the work. Leaving things as they are will only make the problems seem all the more obvious to the outside world, put potential buyers off and make it more expensive to fix when we get around to it.
Presty On Tour Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Freddy Eastwood was touted around the board last summer as an option and he looks to be off to Coventry for only 1.2m. I think after all the hype at Southend, he couldn't fill his boots at Wolves. On the International scene for Wales though he has done a good job, a pacy outlet and has proven he can finish.
OJRovers Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Reported in the LET today that Knox has joined, we will be appointing a new goalkeeping coach by Monday and that Williams will be looking at a few targets that Ince has identified. Things are starting to move - at last! I am 100% being Ince, but I am a bit worried about any "targets" his has identified at this present moment - 2 weeks ago he was scouting around for lower league bargains for £50k-£100k. I can't see that in 2 weeks he has a fully researched list of targeted players who are skilled enough to play at the highest level in the Prem League. Will the board make suggestions to him? I don't know how it works. This post sounds a bit negative to Ince, but its not meant to be, i think he'll be good - its more looking at the realistic situation.
vintageadidas Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Spaky left a fair few names! JW has stated that and PI is considering them, but obviously has his own players in mind such as Keith Andrews et al
Fife Rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Well the whole Roque story seems to be gathering pace now, can see Arsenal getting shot of Adey now! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/ju...rleague.arsenal I'd be loath to see him go. Does anyone reckon McGeady at Celtic might be interested I think he has potential, and did well in last years champions league. He prefers a more central role has pace and can create, but would he be another ferguson? McGeady is a decent player, and can be brilliant on occasions. He is also young and has fair pace. He is not a big softy like the other you mentioned. Scores a few as well.
Baggio Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I suppose that's a fair enough point. (...and Orr is a Mickey Mouser) However, I saw him interviewed during the play offs and he came accross as quite intelligent and humble. I dont think he's been in bother since his spell inside so he appears to have learnt his lesson. Not really something that can be said of your lad is it? Funnily enough people get the same impression from Barton from interviews he's done. The similarities don't end there because Orr has a history of attacking team mates too, he got sent off a few years back for violent conduct for attacking a team mate against Northampton. We'll have to wait until Barton comes out of prison before we can say if he's learnt his lesson or not.
Fife Rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 can't understand anyone being upset by knox joining,he's been there got the t-shirt.incey needs someone with premier experince to give him the odd word in the ear,he has chose knox -good enough for me.as for orr,if hughes was intrested we would be wetting ourselves over another bargain.the season has yet to begin, close season has yet to begin, and we are asking questions off our manager Some of us are Waggy and only a few of the usual suspects at that.
Fife Rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 His agent has said otherwise. it's not a done deal yet. Those Greeks - they just can't wait can they Are you trying to start WW3?
Bazzanotsogreat Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Well, the Greeks did occupy that area at one point. Occupy- I would re-phrase that that one; Byzantium has been part of Greece for about 3,000 years . The Turks then invaded Constantinople and formed Istanbul. It is the only part of Turkey to be found within Europe.

If I wanted that I would have paid attention in school But seriously, thanks for the info - I never knew that.
Eddie Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Depends on how you interpret occupy. I don't think this is the place for historical semantics though.
thenodrog Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 There are times 'drog when I wonder if you used to spend time at Brockhall. The only way we can be a huge success story is if we win something major or make the Champions League. No it isn't. For a club of our background playing in europe regularly whilst staying in the black or even turning a significant profit would be one hell of a huge success story imo.
Fife Rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Depends on how you interpret occupy. I don't think this is the place for historical semantics though. Why not ? It is very boring on here in the close-season. Not just History either; we could have English Grammar and spelling classes, Economics and accounting classes, Politics, Ethics, Morality.......you name it there will be plenty of willing teachers. Enrol now for the New University of BRFCS.
b12_simon Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Enrol now for the New University of BRFCS. Slightly less prestigious than the University of Life. Close ties with the School of Hard Knocks.
Roaming Rover Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 you name it there will be plenty of willing teachers. They may be willing Fife, but will they be any good
Bazzanotsogreat Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 But seriously, thanks for the info - I never knew that. Sorry Eddie As for the History lesson- We have Greek posters on this forum, who would get very upset by suggesting they once occupied a region that was part of their country for several millenia.
Presty On Tour Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Pablo Aimar is on his way to Benfica for around 7m. It was rumored he was holding out for a move to the premiership with a few clubs interested in his services but none have come in and made an offer as yet. We all know we need an attacking central midfielder and this fella has quality. Is 7m in our budget?
