socngill Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Just read a comment on the LET page and it made me think. What if we sold Bentley for less cash but put another sell on clause on it? So we pay Arsenal less and would get the rest of the fee in 2-3 years time when he is sold to a top 4 for stupid amounts of money. Just a thought. Suppose we would probably want more money now.

hawkiiz Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 i was just thinking, the Trustees having now made a U turn with the 3Million pound investment,is that a sign that they dont want to see the club,in trouble come the end of the season? With that in mind,if we in trouble and got relegated, the value that they want would completely become less. Therefore i think the turn around is purely to safe guard themselves,in any potential takeover that might occur, without the value of the club decreasing. i dont think we will get relegated even if friedel and bentley goes and nobody come in but IF we were in such trouble that relegation was a threat, then 3 million would not be of much help?
gazsimm Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Nicko do you think Liverpool might come in for Santa now that Crouch has joined Pompey???
LeChuck Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Bentley supplies Santa and Benni with the Ammo. A Striker is only as good as the service that he receives - FACT Given that Pedersen supplies virtually nothing though, do you not think it's possible to get two good players for £10 million (or whatever we get in reality for Bentley) and share the assists out between both wings? Assuming Bentley was getting around 10 a year, it'd be like asking the two new wingers to provide 6 each. We definitely need a wide player regardless of whether Bentley leaves or not, if only to provide some competition...but if Bentley goes we should get two good players and have Pedersen backing up those two.
LeftWinger Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 ..and share the assists out between both wings? Assuming Bentley was getting around 10 a year, it'd be like asking the two new wingers to provide 6 each. In the league last year Bentley got 11 assists, Santa Cruz 7, Dunn and Roberts 6, MGP 4, Warnock 3 and Derbs 2. (from Premier League website).

nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Eric Steele will be the new Rovers goalkeeping coach.
hawkiiz Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Nicko do you think Liverpool might come in for Santa now that Crouch has joined Pompey??? they are looking at David Villa, but conceedes he might be to expensieve
nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Nicko do you think Liverpool might come in for Santa now that Crouch has joined Pompey??? Not top of the list. Or anywhere near it. Villa sounds interesting, Keane too. If they get either they will be a force.

Thanks...well, Pedersen got more than I thought. Interesting that if you combine the right and left sides together (i.e. wingers and full-backs), then it's only 11 vs. 7. It doesn't look as unevenly weighted in that case, maybe a new winger and new full-back could provide something similar on the right in the absence of Bentley. Either way, there are options available to us, we don't need to (and probably can't) replace Bentley like-for-like.

I honestly believe that Pedersen will step up again this year. When he first came he had to prove he was good enough and did, he was linked with other clubs and put in some great performances, but last year I think he had nothing to prove, no inner drive he was cruising. He has no threat to his place at all, Dunn is no winger, with ince joining and a bad season behind him he has it all to do again. He'll return to his previous form this year, I'm sure.
den Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11065_3775864,00.html ICEMAN, in future, could you please give an indication as to what the link is about? It would be really frustrating if everyone simply put anonymous links up.
LeChuck Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I honestly believe that Pedersen will step up again this year. When he first came he had to prove he was good enough and did, he was linked with other clubs and put in some great performances I'm not so sure. Even at his 'height', many people on here thought that his stunning goals were masking otherwise poor performances. When the goals dried up they were proved to be correct in that analysis.

hawkiiz Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 if we go down, then i think we are in for a long long spell down the divisions. unless a lot of the players have relegation wage-drop clauses, and follow us down, i dont think we are getting back up any time soon. god forbid that ever happens!

The stat's do show though that all our play comes from two attacking areas, the right and left flank. Stop one and you half our chances of scoring. The priority here is a attacking midfielder, someone who gets the ball and drives forward with purpose. Bentleys replacement can wait,he hasn't left yet. I know no-rates Emo out there, but if any one knows his stats from when he played out there last I would be interested to see them???

They'll just have to put in, they'll have no choice. We'll assest strip and re-build and come straight back up!
nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 I have to say - and it goes against what I heard on Sunday - that there WILL be a bid or two for Brad Friedel very shortly. This is all a bit strange. I know he doesn't want to go...
Hughesy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The stats show that we really lack a creative midfielder like Fabregas. We need to get a man who can pick a pass - like Tugay 3 or 4 years ago. Pedersen, im sure will return to form. He showed signs of it late last season. Bentley - Yes a good player, but far over-rated by many on here. It wont have the same massive impact if he leaves as it did with Shearer or Duff. Bentley is a good player and a good crosser but he is very inconsistent. How many games last season did you attend where you came away thinking 'Bentley ran that game'? Not many! As for Big Brad - £10m will cover it at his age!

Hughesy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 So those stats show that Pedersen (on form) is as good, if not better than bentley. What about Goals scored too?
nicko Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 I also understand that chief scout Mike Rigg has left...with David Tuttle lined up for that job. All very hectic.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have to say - and it goes against what I heard on Sunday - that there WILL be a bid or two for Brad Friedel very shortly. This is all a bit strange. I know he doesn't want to go... I cannot see it going down well with the fans if Ince lets him go. Brad wants to stay, loves the club and clearly doesn't want to leave. Plus based on last season he still is one of the best keepers in the league. Managerial suicide by Ince if he sells him.
MarkBRFC Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 in 2005/06 he had 3 assists, pedersen had 6. 04/05 he had 4 assist. noone had more that year at rovers. reid had the same. 06/07 both bentley and gamst had 11, brett had none as far as i can see Clearly wrong then i remember a fantastic Emerton cross for A Derbyshire header against Reading on the final day of that season. Can't say if he had anymore though Also, in Bretts first season i think he got into double figures with assists? Again though im not 100% with that.
LeChuck Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I also understand that chief scout Mike Rigg has left Any idea how much he had to do with Nelsen, Samba etc? If he had quite a big role to play in Hughes finding the gems he did then we could be in real trouble.
