savage90 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I really wish we'd have gone for Michaël Chrétien this summer, I remember we were strongly linked to him in January but our interest soon faded Although im delighted with Salgado. Chimbonda can play on either side as a full back or in the centre, I think he's a player who would do well for us although i'd prefer we went for someone a little younger, so if it is him i hope the fee is reasonable and allows us to sign a midfielder or two.

Craigman Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 West Brom's Jonas Olsson ? He is a left sided centre back who could play left back.
savage90 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 If it was Neil i think Nicko would have described the player as something other that versatile, im dead set on Chimbonda. Although Pogatetz is tempting.
alexanders Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Gregory Cerdan. Fullback, playing as a central defender.
67splitscreen Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Looks like the board will be busy around 11pm.
nicko Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Do you think this would then fulfill Sam's wish for the 2 positions to be covered and allow us to look at a other positions (CM!!!) or would we still be looking at a left back as well? edit: I wouldn't be to unhappy with Lucash. He is a good defender but always has that 1 really bad tackle or handball just waiting to escape. The search for a left back - probably as cover - is ongoing. Then we will see what is left for midfield. Hopefully there could be something around, although I suspect a loan move would be favourite in that department. If you get Warnock out for around £8 million and two extra defenders for about £2.5 - 3 million between them that could give you some scope for another face.
Saahil Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 but what about all the wages..?? my guess is civelli if he has dropped his wage demands or chimbonda

Are you implying that there has been an offer of 8m but has still not been accepted.
The Rover of Finland Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Surely it´s not Chimbonda. He has played as a centre half but is a right back. We don´t need any more players there. Have to take a minute before taking part to this guessing game.
rovertheworld Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 nicko, is warnock a done deal? sam just geting a replacement in before he lets him go
nicko Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Are you implying that there has been an offer of 8m but has still not been accepted. Villa know the figure needed and will get there one way or another...and Rovers are setting up his replacement. It's close.
Big Fat Sam Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Well I think its time for us all to step back and wait and see what happens between now and the end of the window. I won't lie I'm far from happy at recent developments but feel its best we all wait until the whole picture is known.
AggyBlue Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Villa know the figure needed and will get there one way or another...and Rovers are setting up his replacement. It's close. SSN reporting Villa have put a bid in for Distin
imy9 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Villa know the figure needed and will get there one way or another...and Rovers are setting up his replacement. It's close. Are we in talks with a Villa player?
Lathund Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 It would be worth getting Lucas Neill back just to see Revidge Blue explode into flames. He and about a dozen others. Would provide lots of entertainment indeed. Plus I think he's a pretty good player. Not my first choice by any means, but I would be satisified if he was the player we brought in.
67splitscreen Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Looking at players with experience in the Prem, that can cover both positions and in the last year of there contracts so should be in budget. Not that he is my own choice but this one sticks out for me. Mickael Silvestre.
bob fleming Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Well I think its time for us all to step back and wait and see what happens between now and the end of the window. No, no, no, no, no. That would be far too sensible. We should act now, sack Sam, sack the Board and get rid of the Trustees. Bring in Michael Laudrup, or someone else equally proven, who ensures that we play every pass on the floor and cut Mortens arms off so he can't take any more long throws. Strewth. Next you'll be saying stuff like let's just concentrate on winning tonight and Saturday before the international break.
Veevs Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 The only way we could afford a center midfielder as well is if we purchased 2 stupidly cheap defenders both earning 10k or so and even then the midfielder would have to be earning next to nothing. Samba is doubtful for tonights game.. so our central defense players: Nelson - Injured Samba - Short term injury Zurub - Unrated by Sam Givet - Our left back Left back Givet or Olsson (who most of us agree is not ready) Right back is well covered Salgado, Lars, Emerton are not central defenders.. So who the hell does that leave us with as cover for central defense? Last season Oijer and even the axe provided central defensive cover.. and we no longer have these chaps. People keep saying we should of addressed central midfield and its really getting on my nerves we know we need to do it, but how could Sam of afforded it.. Elrio - Free and pacey player (injured atm I believe) Lars - Free, much needed Right back.. no one could argue that one at the time Salgado - Free, bringing much needed presence, passion and experience to the dressing room Nzonzi - 450k and looking well worth it Kalinic - 6m and an essential recruit, we needed a striker Jnr - Exciting youth Givet - 4m, Brilliant and essential player too us especially given the circumstances Yet we ran out of money.. is that Sams fault.. no it sodding well isn't, he sold over 20m in players and got nothing back.. Then we have our midfield crocks.. who would of bought any of them? Only Emerton may interest other teams but he is someone we can't sell. I am pretty sure Sam would of brought in a central midfielder if he had the cash, or converted an existing player to the middle (which he may still do) but he hasn't had it.. and the yearly plus 5-10m transfer fund available to all managers up to now has turned into a negative transfer budget of 10-15m. Also please listen to Sams interview again.. specifically the part where he says "if the board accept an offer for Warnock then the board need to make sure he has a player ready".. shortly followed up by talking about needing a second player given Nelsons injury. I personally hope the interest in Benni is true, but doubt Ajax will come in with anything resembling a decent bid for him.

rovertheworld Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 so basically were getting rid of warnock, and getting 2 cheapy's
67splitscreen Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 so basically were getting rid of warnock, and getting 2 cheapy's Yep! a brand new Samba and Warnock.
niggit Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Best way to look at it,people say cheap players, but like Samba, how he has turned out.
The Rover of Finland Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Silvestre is a great shout! Arsenal has Gallas, Vermaelen, Djourou and Senderos playing centre. Clichy, Gibbs and Traore on left. If Silvestre isn´t the man then someone´s has to make a phone call to Sam. Then again his wages must be quite high for us..
rovertheworld Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 all we need now is a brand new goalkeeper then weve got the full collection this summer, we bought 1) strikers 2) midfielders 3) right back 4) left back 5) now are after antoher centre back
Manc Rover Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Rovers know the player they want and have opened talks. We can describe him as 'versatile.' If that deal can be agreed then Warnock goes... Hoping this saves for the 11 o'clocker. Paul Warhurst?
